I've now got all of the State maps for this trip. Yeah that's right, Pants still uses the old fashioned, made from trees state highway maps. It's a great way to get a 30,000 foot view of the big picture.
I need to spread 'em out on the table and start thinking about route. I'm avoiding it because I don't want to do it. I'd rather just wing it day to day and blow with the wind. But I think is going to be a little bit different. I will need to tie myself down just a little more.

It sounds like in all likelihood, I will need to come into the park from the West. I'm fairly certain that I will be heading to YFO from Joshua Tree N/P. In that light, I may stop to see the Giant trees again in Sequoia before heading to YFO. For Pants, seeing these massive things once in a lifetime just doesn't sound like enough.
I like paper maps too! ;) Pants, I threw together a rough draft route suggestion from Joshua Tree to Mariposa (note: I haven't double checked the finer points so not 100% that there might be a dirt road in there somewhere! ). There's a lovely campground near Shaver Lake called Dinkey Creek. The road up there is an out and back (not a bad thing!) and there is a bridge in the campground that I found on a rally that is a little bit of magic. B)

Here is the route. Maybe some other folks in the SoCal area can chime in.

You guys are killing me. I keep looking at all these roads out west with Google maps and imagine riding some of that I've ridden before and many that would be new to me. Then the body reminds me I can't do this anymore.

I wish everyone a wonderful time.

Uh Tango Sierra.... Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over????

Please re-consider. You can do this. Maybe you can't do a butt burner over there and back. Maybe you can't do 350 miles of twisties with others while you are over there. But find a trailer and load your bike. Trailer it over to YFO. PM a member who lives close to YFO and leave the trailer there. No one has to know, and if they do, there is NO SHAME in that.

At YFO leave in the morning with a group of your choice. Pick the sweep position and when you have had enough, pull over and wave 'em on. Go back to the lodge and take a nap. When we get there, hold the ice chest open for us.

But regardless, if you really want to make this trip, by all means, go. I'm not some kind of gypsy, but I've got a feeling about this. It's going to be special. We are going to be a large group of close friends. Many of us haven't met yet, but we've known each other for years, if that makes sense. We are going to be in one of the most beautiful places in the world, both for sight seeing and riding, at one of the best times of the year.

And we want you to be part of it.

Please re-consider.

Working on dinner for the group on Saturday night... hope to have some info this week. B)

For Pants here is an alternative route from Joshua Tree to Mariposa. This route is about a two day ride and will take you in to the San Bernadino National Forest and the San Gabriel Mountains. If it is open you do NOT want to miss Angels Crest Hwy (Hwy 2). This route will take you on some of the best Cyn roads, as in Canyon, in Southern California. --G and I were down this way a couple of years ago and tore the place up.

We road most of the Cyn roads and loved it. Nothing like living in Cyn.

Do check to make sure all these road are open before you ride them.

I got my vacation time approved today and I am cleared for takeoff. 2 Weeks of riding ! I think I will attempt a BBG Trifecta on the

way out to California (Via Montana or something like that. Going to somehow end up in L.A. to pick up the wife and rip up I-5 to the

event. When we leave we are going to take the coastal highway back down to L.A.

You better not be using age as an excuse unless you are well into your 80's and ****** up.

w00t!! I think you might win the farthest distance award, Tony (what a shock... ;) )... really glad you'll be able to make it! FYI, not sure what part of the coast you're planning on but the Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge near Big Sur collapsed this winter. You can't make a straight shot through from the Monterey to Cambria section which is one of the most beautiful parts. You could ride north as far as you can and then back south... silver lining is that there won't be a lot of traffic!

See ya in June Tony! You can cut into Big Sur via Fort Hunter Liggett, then ride north to the closed bridge, turn around and ride back south to Cambria and LA.

Both those things, right Ralph? Just being ****** up won't get you off the hook?
