Since everyone started posting non-Yamaha photos into the "First Yamaha" thread, I figured it was time to start a thread for those photos.

1973 Suzuki 350 (and the anti-disco rider surrounded by late-70's "disco girls")

My avatar... after it was modified for racing...'88 650 cc Honda Hawk making a whopping 77 hp at the rear wheel (stock was 38 hp rear wheel) The picture is in the internaional horseshoe at Daytona in October '94. Started dead last (I think 88th), finished 17th in 7 laps (25 miles).

This is my first Yamaha DT 250. Bought it in the Phillippines in 1975. Did a lot of enduro riding and mountain trails on this bike. Also did some first attempts at moto-x but found it way to heavy and slow. My first ride goes back to the early 1950s with that being a Whizzer.

1974 Honda MR50. Dad sold it to get me a bigger bike, but I ran across it over 20 years later at a flea market.

My first street "bike", 1962 Cushman :

Cushman Eagle?

I had a Cushman Trailmaster, I was 14 and would sneak it out on the street after school. Then a Honda 55, Honda Trail 90, But I learned to ride on my uncles Harley Davidson Scat.

I lived in Oklahoma at the time & you could be licensed for the street at 14 ! (Daylight hours & under 10 hp) Not an Eagle though. . . .Always wanted a Mustang back then (18 hp!) with the wire wheels.. And then the Japanese invasion !

Six years old

Kawasaki KV75. A 75cc two stroke. Note I had the Parnelli Jones edition LOL

When I was a junior in high school, (1963) my Dad came home with a bike like this

Parilla 250 Scrambler. (Not the actual bike.)

That was after learning to ride his 250 Triumph Tiger Cub (street version).

Pretty cool when you think that all of my friends were riding Honda 50s and 90s...big timers were riding Honda Super90s. I think there was one other guy in high school that had a Harley 125 2-stroke.

Am I dating myself?

I know, I know. This is supposed to be about our 'first' bike - but I got carried away.

Disclaimer - None of these pics are of the actual bike that I had or rode - however, I tried to be faithful to the model, year, and color.

First bike I actually "drove" - a kid down the street got one, and let me ride it. I was somewhere around 10 yrs. old.

1967 Honda 305 Superhawk - first REAL bike I rode as passenger. My sister's boyfriend was trying to make points, and took me for a ride. I think I was 12 at the time.

And this is the bike that taught me about torque - 1953 Vincent (not sure about the pic - or the model.) Belonged to my bud's older brother. Age 14. He and I would ..... dare I say it ..... sneak it out of his garage when big bro was out of town on business. (16 years difference in age)

1 up, 3 down on the right side. Compression release so you could kick start it. No frame - the engine was a stressed member. 1,000 CC Vtwin.

And now the first bike I ever actually owned - 1970 Kawasaki 90 cc Bushmaster

And a step up - 1973 Honda CL350

Followed by something that could keep up with traffic in downtown L.A. -

1974 Honda CB750 K4 - Purple.

And then I got married and had kids. Sold the 750 in 1976.

And a short 30 years later, picked up my Cobalt Blue girl. And we're still on our honeymoon.

I had 5 off road bikes before this, when I was 17 (the legal age), in the UK you could ride anything up to 250cc on a provisional (trainer) licence then anything at all after passing a test. As soon as I was 17 I borrowed a 250 having never ridden on the road, passed the test and bought my lovely Yamaha XT 500. I soon traded it in for a Honda 750 4 K6. There have been many since. (The test was redicoulusly easy in those days. It's much tougher now and in sections split over a year I think).

So, "that seventies show" is based on a true story? Whoda thunk?

Great thread!!

Here's what I started on back in my camping days, circa 1971.

A Chibi mini. :D 2 stroke with a 3 speed trany.

Chibi.jpg

Then I graduated to a used 1970 Triumph Trophy.

TriumphTrophy.jpg

Had a blast on both.

No pictures, but my first was a "Montgomery Ward 250." I think I pushed it more than I ever rode it.

My other first bike, happened to 'be' my first bike. It was 1973 or 4, can't remember, KE-175 Kawasaki. Remember driving it back to my apartment having never ridden a motorcycle before (did know how to drive a manual shift but foot and hand clutch was, shall we say, interesting. (The dumb stuff you do when you're young; did wear a helmet though) I guess you never forget your first; fun bike.
