Thanks for the info everyone. I will make a trip to Apache soon. I made it to the Redneck games and BBQ in Scottsdale today and followed it up with a trip to the Hideaway. Great day to be here for sure, even saw an '04 FJR on my way up through Cave Creek. I've spent a lot of time and miles in...

    New Location

Well that's good. I only put the caveat in there as I know things can get a bit touchie on not putting things where the management wants them to be. In my simple mind this might have been best served in something like the off topics threads. I just didn't want to start a crap storm on not...

    New Location

I know this is not really the place for this post, but in order to get the most bang for my buck before the mods kick it to obscurity land, I'm gonna start here. Recently, due to a perfect storm of circumstances, Jenny and I have dumped living in the great Northwet and relocated to Fountain...

    FJR1300AE - A year in the saddle.

If they do, I'll buy one. If not, I'll continue to wear out the one I have.

    Streets & Trips 2013: $14.95!

Maybe try again, I just saw this and my order went through fine. Thanks to the management for the heads up on this deal.

    Is this a good deal?

Good call. You can spend a lifetime holding out for the right "deal", and I love a bargin as much as the next guy. But you can't buy time and every day that passes while you keep looking, is one less day riding. Trust those of us whom have gone before you, the price you paid will seem irrelevant...

    BEWARE!

These days I prefer to avoid them. A couple years back Jenny and I hit one in South-east Washington that was apparently stronger than I thought it would be. I found myself in the on-coming lane faster than I could do anything about, good thing I had the road to myself. Good call on the heads up.

    Life After Retirement

I've come to realize there is time and there is money. I've yet to find a "Time" store to spend my money at. I'm heading towards taking your advice doc. Certainly sooner than I would have thought ten years ago, but as you say, it's just feeling right.

    Need help!

What Surly said. I had a noise in the front once after getting new tires for a trip and getting about 500 miles from home. When I applied the brakes to stop and investigate, what was bad turned to horrible. It turned out apparently my right front caliper bolts were not tightened down, one bolt...

I think my new 2009 FJR1300AE has the dreaded dry clutch syndrome

For what it's worth both my AE's have done this. I also do the two bar warm-up and on the 06 I had the system bled as that was what Yamaha told the dealer to do. It made no difference. Mine only do it the first time or two when starting from a stop and only the first time the bike is ridden for...

Complete Illustrated Guide to Head Lamp Replacement

Nice write up, I'm sure it will be useful to many "first timers" for changing their bulbs. Whatever did we do before the internet? Me, I swore a lot more.

Gen II Grounding Harness Recall Poll

My harness arrived last week. I will be heading to Desert Valley tomorrow morning for my install. Three weeks ago when we found my spider was already failing, I took the bike home and it has not moved since. Last night I went out to the bike to do a pre-ride inspection and lo and behold there is...

    FJRF009.2: "Intermittent Ground Wire Connection"

Well, just my luck. I went in for my recall this morning on the first day of what was supposed to be a week of solo motorcycling bliss, but no love for me, my connector is already in meltdown. Damn, I should be in Nevada right now, not sitting at my keyboard. Plus, the harness for the AE is on...

    North Cascades Pass

Timing can be everything regarding construction for sure. I knew we had made a mistake when Jenny and I were telling each other as we left Winthrop, this year had been the best ever as far as contruction was concerned. Zaaaap, instant construction zone ahead. Overall it was still probably the...

    North Cascades Pass

Gunny that. We got back last week from a 5k trip and the worst construction we hit was on Hy 20. (93 outside Hamilton MT was a close second, wet clay two up is messy and tiring)

    AE Long-term Experiences

I'm on my second one. I loved my 06 but the blow-out deals were just to good to pass up so I moved to my 08. I've put about 80k combined miles on the AEs, with no issues. My only regret is that unless Yamaha brings it back, I've apparently bought my last new one. The paddle shift took me about...

    FJRF009.1: Intermittent Ground Wire

This is really good news. My '06 failed me in Utah back in 08 before this was a known problem. I'll be leaving on a 5k trip July 1st with my 08 and I'll ride a bit easier knowing that if there is a problem I hopefully won't get the deer in the headlights look should I land on some dealers...

No longer starts -- dash lit up

Yup, sounds like my '06 when it had spider failure.
