    Retiring and Moving to Spokane

Congrats on the new house and good luck on the VLO. No guarantee they'll offer it again, but my wife had it offered twice. My wife put 37 years in at the "Kite company" and just took the VLO at the end of May. We had planned on her retiring a year later, but with the possibility of an actual...

    Lithium Ion Booster Packs

This forum is great for stimulating the economy. After reading about the latest farkle or good deal, I often end up spending money. :) After doing a little research, I found the old model Antigravity PPS (XP-3) on sale for $60...

    Steering head tool

I have a socket style one I got from Just Roy (forum member here who's not making them any more) years ago. I'd be glad to loan it to any local members. It's definitely more convenient than the spanner style tool (which I also have ;) ).

Got the bike and made it home

Welcome to the FJR! I hated the stock windshield also when it was raised up to try and get out of the wind. It works fine all the way down when you want lots of air. The best compromise I found is a Cee Bailey stock width shield that it 2 inches higher with the reverse flip. It's a nice...

    Who 'Dat Bracket From?

I had a set of those on my 07 to increase comfort for the wife. WARNING: They did increase her comfort until I got the FJR leaned over and found they drag much too soon. :( I ended up picking up a set of used MCL passenger peg lower brackets that don't go quite as far down or out.

    Leaking Radiator

My 07 original radiator leaked in the same spot at somewhere north of 100,000 miles and it looks like DCarver's did also. No visible damage in that area. I wonder why they always fail in that area? In the interest of expediency, I bought a used OEM FJR radiator off ebay and replaced my leaky...

So, I Ran Out of Gas...

I was in Maupin, OR last friday night and realized that no gas stations were open after 8pm or before 8am. Oops - I had just gone on reserve. I'm comfortable going 50 miles into reserve (but not much more because I've experienced sputtering), but the closest gas station that was open all night...

An air horn is a must

Karen - Glad you found my Stebel installation post from 2008 helpful. As noted, if the bracket is bent to tip the horn back as far as possible without hitting the radiator, then it will clear the fender under hard braking. Coincidentally, my Stebel failed this past week while on a 10 day blast...

    2007 Running too hot?

That must be the bane of high mileage 07's. ;) The temps do seem to be getting higher with age. It's been normal to hit 7 bars and fans kicking on while the bike is idling while I check the mailbox on the way home and minutes later while stopping to open the garage door (and not just on...

    Vibration While Letting Clutch Out

I didn't notice if an oil change had any effect on the shuddering. It's not happened very often, so I haven't really investigated a fix. Not that it would prove anything in my case, but the next couple oil changes will be with Mobile One 15w50 because the May rebate made it cheaper than my...

    Vibration While Letting Clutch Out

If it makes you feel better, my 07 with 122,000 miles on it has done the shuddering clutch engagement a few times in the last year or two. It's always been on a cold engine IIRC and I've run Rotella 15w40 for the bikes whole life except for maybe a couple changes when I had another oil...

What did you do to your FJR today?

Too bad I didn't know, Dave. I have just such a seal sitting in my garage to rebuild my old 120,000 mile starter that also is a mess of carbon and oil inside. I had bought a used starter and rebuilt it so I wouldn't waste any time when it was time to pull the old one. Rebuilding is no longer...

PNW Spring Tech Meet #18 - May 13th

Thanks for hosting again, Bryan and Marissa! Awesome tech meet as usual and it was great to meet some members I've missed at previous get togethers.

How I saved $175 and stayed out of the Dog House (Horns inop)

I still love my LOUD horn that Uncle Hud referenced in his post. The combination of that Stebel airhorn under the triple tree and a set of Sport Horns in the stock location really wake the dead. I have the agree on the limited usefullness of horns though. They come in handy to wake up the...

sidestand wiring bypassed but ignition problems remain

The sidestand switch will definitely do this, but sounds like you already bypassed it. BTW, the connector is easily accessible to bypass as I reported in this thread: https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php/topic/159487-going-70-in-the-fast-lane-bike-dies-i-dont/?p=1169332 The 2007 was...

Starting issue 04 fjr; bike turns on power to gauges and fuel pump but no crank

I vote for relay also. Mine crapped out just before my YES coverage ended. I had verified that it failed by reading across the main contactors while holding the starter button and hearing the click. Should see 0 volts, but instead there were 12 volts (approx) which means that although the...

    RF1200 Pinlock at Night?

The pinlock stays in my helmets all year. I ride a lot at night up here in the north in temps from the teens to the rare 90's and we also have a lot of rain in the Seattle area. I struggled with fogging for my whole life and nothing I tried worked very well to keep a shield clear. Fogging is...

    2nd Gen windshield tuning

I probably had the Vstream mounted in October because that's my winter shield. Your measure of the +4 CB and Vstream are close to what I measured a long time ago. I think the CB was only about 1/2 inch taller when I measured. True dat about difference in measuring by manufacturers and owners. ;)
