Tips For Safe Interstate Riding - 1st Road Trip

I my cross-country trips I rig up a Camelback in the tank bag. It lets me hydrate, and provides a source of water to deal with the direct bug hits on my face shield.

Please tell me I didn't get ripped the hell off

I agree with the others. Enjoy the ride and stop worrying.

    Saddlebags- On or Off?

I leave 'em on. I don't see a downside, and I can always stop for some BBQ takeout or some bagels to bring home if I see a good place. As for the trunks, they look practical, but fugly, IMHO. My son says that any bike that has one is a "geezercycle". I'll probably get one, but I need to...

    '07 purchase

Good post. Congratulations! I've had mine for about 2 weeks (and 1200 miles) and sill love it. Looking forward to a couple long trips later this summer. Now get the credit card out. Farkle madness sets in fast.

    FJR Sighting

Must be a day for feejers in TN. My son and I road to Lynchburg today to visit a friend, me in the FJR and he on the R1150R. After Lynchburg we rode some backroads for a while and ended up near Manchester. We hopped on I-24, and my son got way ahead of me in traffic. I'm cruising at about...

Thanks, that's all I needed to know.

    Another G2 Question

I know that the G2 throttle body has been covered ad nauseam, and I've read most of the posts. But i still have a question: is there a way to disconnect the wiring for the heated grips, or is there enough slack in the wiring to allow the grip and throttle tube to slide off the handlebar after...

    My 600 mile service experience

I'm a long-time do-it-your-selfer, but I did take my new 06 AE to the dealer for service today. I had already changed the oil, but wanted them to check the TBs, steering head bearings, etc. They also replace the ECU per the recall. They checked the TB balance and the guy said that it was...

Is the FJR the culmination of your dreams in a motorcycle?

For me, it's not a perfect bike, but it's an excellent combination of power, handling, and value. There are areas for improvement (who's stupid idea was it that the key always has to be used to open the saddlebag, and close the gas tank lid??). But it's better than any of the three BWMs I've...

    FJR or RT 1200 msrp?

I've been a BMW owner for several years and recently bought an 06 FJR and am selling my R1150R. I'm not looking back. After my first longish ride this past weekend, I'm even more convinced that the FJR is a better bike. It's smoother, faster, more comfortable, and better on gas. In the...

    Stinking Cager!!!

That sign is perfect!!! It really is stunning how many of the idiots I see driving erratically are gabbing on their cell phones. What could be so important? BTW, it's not just cagers. I once saw a guy on a big HD riding down the freeway and talkiing on his cell. That must have been some...

    auto clutch or manual?

I've had my 06 AE for a week and love it. I see no problem riding it aggressively. It isn't quite as nimble as my R1150R, so I can't take corners quite as fast. But it has plenty of power and you can tap into it at will. The AE does take a careful technique at low speed maneuvering, since...

Any feedback on Ted Porter's Beemershop

Ted posts on the BMW Airhead list and is highly regarded.

    Am I lugging it?

Point taken. I'm learning to pretend it's my BMW Boxer, and it seems to like it. I really like this FJR. My shift technique is still a little clunky, but it's getting better. And the speed and handling are awesome.

    Am I lugging it?

Thanks all. I was really surprised to see the recommended shift speeds in the manual. It does seem to shift smoother at low speed, but like I said, I'm afraid it's lugging a bit. I'll take it out this evening and play some more. BTW, this is a great forum.

    Am I lugging it?

I've had the '06 JFR AE for a week and 400 miles. I like the bike but my upshifts are still pretty rough. I suspect that I'm shifting too late. According to the manual, I should be in 5th gear by 31 mph. This is a foreign concept for me because my BMW boxers like high RPM and can cruise...

    First Impressions

After much deliberation, I pulled the trigger and bought the new 2006 FJR AE that was at the dealer. I think I got a good deal - the price was under $10K. The intention was that I'd sell the BMW R1150R and keep the old R100 that my son rides most of the time, and that I steal from time to time...

    Considering purchasing 2006 FJR AE

Thanks for the reply everyone! I've decided to jump in, and I think we've agreed to a price. Now I just need to get up there and pick it up. After reading all the reviews and comments, the only things that make me nervous are the low-speed unsmoothiness, which apparently can be fixed, and...
