    EOM routes

My routing "philosophy" typically involves the following criteria... 1. Keep all routes below 350 miles (if possible). Folks need time to socialize and typically don't want to spend 12 hours on the bike each day. 2. Be sure to include some shorter (< 250 miles) routes that are more scenic...

    EOM routes

Heidi, CrackedIce would be the closest and most logical to modify for including Rte-160. That stretch of Rte-160 is 16 miles of good twisty road, but not within reach of the existing routes without significant compromise. I considered it for both the CucumberlandGap and CrackedIce routes, but...

Finally some decent shots of me on the FJR

Love my suspenders in the winter time. For those who don't like my suspenders the rule is... Anybody who can pass me in a corner, can take my suspenders. :)

Anyone have a spare fuel pump to look at?

Here's where the piece of foreign matter was located. Here's what the rheostat wiper looks like now.

Anyone have a spare fuel pump to look at?

If anyone has a spare fuel pump assembly to look at, I would greatly appreciate talking to you so we can look at both together, over the phone, and compare a few things. Working on a bike that was downed recently. Fuel gauge flashed constantly. Removed the pump & gauge assembly. Only thing I...

Busy front end after spring change

IF, and it's a big IF, I'm interpreting the numbers correctly, the rear is a Wilbers variable rate of 130-165 N/mm rate. IMHO, you have a somewhat mis-matched front/rear. Nothing that I have not seen many times before, but something that I've seen many people complain of harsh feel to forks...

Busy front end after spring change

Understand that despite what the manual implies, the "lines showing" is merely called preload. It actually does NOT effect fork spring preload, but is instead a ride height adjuster. In that regard, it has the same typical effect on steering sensitivity as a true preload, which is probably why...

Busy front end after spring change

Ding Ding Ding... We have a winner!!! Start with the basics, go back to the basics. All the discussion about fluid weights, clicker settings etc. is irrelevant to spring rates. ALL suspension starts with spring rates. You cannot assume that the rear springs are for a "330-lb rider". Someone may...

    Different between rebound and compression

Passenger damping is mostly affected by the rear shock. Q. Is she flying off the bike AS you strike the bump or just AFTER the bump has passed. AS = You are screwed on the FJR. The only adjustment you have on a stock shock is the Soft/Hard setting. Soft is as soft as it gets. AFTER = Luckily...

    Pitted cam lobes.... uncool.... :(

Do I get to say... "This thread is useless without pics of the buckets!" :D j/k of course. But the bucket surfaces will tell the other side of the story. heeheeheeheehee, Man! I'm on fire tonight! I very much agree with earlier posts. 1. The pic is too blurry to make much determination. 2...

I've have a large collection of routes from which to choose. How many miles do you plan to ride per day? How many days? I do have some secret roads, but won't post them anywhere. Email me, haulinashe at gmail dot com.

    Hurricane Irene

By early morning, I will be able to put on my ride gear, roll the FJR into the driveway and do triple digits without so much as turning the key. :(

    Earthquake in Mineral Virginia

We felt it all the way in southeastern NC. I've been battling an ear infection for several days that caused dizziness. At first I thought... "Crap! My ear is getting worse!" Then I realized it wasn't just me shaking. :( I think we have Tsunami and Plague remaining on the list. We're about to...

    speedlimit?

I'm lucky enough to typically be able to commute during odd hours, mid-morning and sometime before/after the 16:00-17:00 rush. If I had to pile in with the hord of cagers in a metro like Atlanta (like Dom does), I'd give up commuting on the bike. Not so much because of not handling the...

Available "clicks" on the rear shock

Just like opening a fuel needle, once it's open enough to maximize the flow through the available orifice/jet, further withdraw of the needles makes no difference. Yamaha refers to 20-clicks ausableseable range, not the mechanical range.

    2011 EOM Registration is open!

I KNEW we left out a state abbreviation. Just couldn't figure out where the heck "EH" was located, so we deleted it! :D You can substitute anything north of Michigan. We only know about Michigan because Wayne emerges from there in the dark of night.
