    Question about my final drive.

Thank you very much for the reassurance folks. Just came back from a 700-mile trip, with the odo reading 1,600 miles, and it growls less now, so it should be breaking in. Thanks again. Case closed :) . JC

Ride the Devil's Highway with Skooterg & BeemerDonS

Hey gang. Came back this afternoon. What an awesome ride, and absolutely perfect weather. Not only zero rain, but highest temp was 82 coming home (thanks to a 'cold front', rather than upper 90s), and lowest 55 this morning in Hannagan (and yes, it was open for dinner and breakfast; don't know...

Ride the Devil's Highway with Skooterg & BeemerDonS

Leaving early tomorrow (Tuesday). Will be staying at the Hannagan Meadow Lodge; seems the nicest, and best food too. Hope everybody came back home safely. Wish me luck. Later gang. JC

    Near Dump

First of all, don't feel bad because 'reading' curves well on a consistent basis is one of the most difficult skills to master. But most importantly, if you weren't dragging all kinds of hard parts, which by the sound of your story you weren't, that means the bike wasn't the problem; it was YOU...

Ride the Devil's Highway with Skooterg & BeemerDonS

Well, had to bail out my brother (not from jail  ) today. It's almost midnight, have no reservation, and frankly, I'm dead, so won't even attempt to make it tomorrow; I always ride well rested for obvious reasons. There's a chance for rain tomorrow afternoon only, and was fine with...

Does your 2008 stall giving it gas from Idle

No vote because mine is an '07 too, but I also have the stumble with quick blips. It never stalled though. I raised the idle to 1,200, and it's almost gone now. Problem with the PCIII is it drops fuel economy dramatically, and I need the range I have now. It's not that bothersome anymore, but...

    Removing rear wheel

If you're going to do any high-speed riding, I'd get it plugged from the inside at the very least. Most of us would just bite the bullet and buy a new tire. Which I'd install myself. Good luck man. JC

    Computer MPG vs Actual MPG

You were probably running in fumes buddy. Remember the bike can't use all the fuel, or the fuel pump would burn. For what I've read, you're pushing your luck above 30. Good day. JC

Ride the Devil's Highway with Skooterg & BeemerDonS

It's not the mileage, but the seat time. Gila is very slow, just like 191, so you'd get there way sooner than me. As far as being a 'fairweather' rider, it's by choice. I'm not afraid of rain, but it makes riding in treacherous places much riskier (just like riding at night in deer country -...

    Throttle cable lubrication

Well, thanks to your suggestion, just looked at my bicycle stuff, and guess what I found? Yep, no need to buy it anymore  . Guess it's obvious I don't lube my chains that often. Take care. JC

    Computer MPG vs Actual MPG

Yup. And it's like a 3rd trip meter; it pops up along with the fuel light. I haven't gone that low yet, so you better get confirmation from somebody else; I might be remembering some other bike :dribble: . And my bike is an '07, but I assume identical in that respect. Take care. JC

    2009 Slave Cylinder on a 2008

That's correct. And not the answer I wanted to hear. I always clutch and brake with 2 fingers, and have no problem with clutch (or brake) pull. And that's a good thing, since a GenI slave would probably make me hit my pinky and index fingers before fully disengaging the clutch. With the clutch...

Ride the Devil's Highway with Skooterg & BeemerDonS

HEATED VEST @ 63º??? Wimp  . Just kidding man. I'm more like a penguin myself. That's why I don't ride in summer; can't stand the heat (so yes, I'm a summer wimp :D ) . I don't ride below freezing for safety reasons, but at that temp I'm golden with my 3-season jacket and its liner. I...

    2009 Slave Cylinder on a 2008

None taken. I've had enough seat time to know it won't be easy to get used to it, but I eventually will, since it's my only bike now. And yes, being my only bike means more mileage as well. Hope the 'interrogation' is over :P . Later. JC

Ride the Devil's Highway with Skooterg & BeemerDonS

Now it seems like Lowell (tropical depression over Baja) is heading exactly our way. Hmmm. You can't trust those forecasts from one day to the next, let alone 5 days; we should know by Friday with more certainty. I can't wait to get on the bike again. Good day folks. JC

    2009 Slave Cylinder on a 2008

Hey Ash and Powell, may I ask you if the clutch engagement point traveled further to the grip with the new slave? I'd assume so since it has a bigger diamater, then reducing mechanical effort (what you wanted), but displacing the engagement point further to the grip (what I don't want). Seems...

    2009 Slave Cylinder on a 2008

Yep. My lever is in the farthest setting (big hands here), and system has no air (bled it twice already). Your statement tells me '08s have the problem fixed. My question is if by changing the master or slave cylinder. Probably the latter, but it'd be nice to hear confirmation. And if a new...

    FJRF003.0: Ignition Failures on FJRs

I'm reading this with interest, now that I see several '07s afflicted. Question: if the excess current/heat is the issue, failures would occur after an extended ride, or a combination of a not-so-long ride but very high ambient temperature, no? Just curious, as it seems to me there'd be a ton...

    2009 Slave Cylinder on a 2008

This is the first time I hear somebody complaining about clutch pull on the FJR, but maybe that was the side effect of fixing the '07's too-close-to-the-grip engagement. Possibly with a smaller slave, which would lenghten the throw (fixing our problem), but reducing the mechanical advantage...

Is oil build up at final drive/motor normal?

I'm going to take a wild guess here. My bike is buried in my garage to confirm it, but it seems to me that if oil level is at the top of the sight glass (where it should be), and bike is parked on the SIDE STAND, oil would (barely) reach that seal, allowing a few drops to seep after a while...
