2015 Black Hills FJR Roundup 25-28 June 2015

I hate to miss this but it looks like I won't make it to this rally. I put off deciding until after SW-FOG and my new shock install. I got the shock installed this week and even had a new front tire ready to put on for the trip. The day after putting the shock on I noticed a puddle on the...

    Auto Cancelling Turn Signals

Since this is already NEPRT I'll throw this in for anyone that has trouble remembering to cancel. Saw this on another forum and don't even know if they would work on an FJR. https://bearbonessolutions.com/blinker-beeper/ My '74 Honda came with a turn signal beeper. I liked it since it was my...

SUN6/21 H-D Freewheeler Trike Test Ride-400 miles of N AZ!

If I was trike shopping I'd check out the Boss Hoss. Much better engine than the HD.

What's the Weather like where YOU are today?

Turned the AC on for the first time this year. I've been opening windows at night for the cool air and closing them in the morning. With the shades drawn on the sunny side, the house stayed pretty decent all day. It was 77 in the house this morning though, due to the fact it was 60 outside at...

    Top Shock Mount, OCD?

Dirty bike, yes. Dirt bike, no.

    Rear Brake "Joint" Failure

I believe you. I also believe a company can make 100,000 copies of a part and there's a chance 1 of them will be defective. I don't suppose you still have what's left of the broken part and could post a picture. I would be interested in seeing it.

    Top Shock Mount, OCD?

I have to admit, I did bottom that thing out a few times.

    Top Shock Mount, OCD?

I have no idea. Maybe wear in the bushing allowed the shock to hammer on the upper bolt enough to bend it, It was a very slight bend which I couldn't even see until I checked it with a straight edge. The bushing on the old shock is noticeably looser than the new one. I have ridden some rough...

    Top Shock Mount, OCD?

I was finally replacing my OE shock on my Gen II today. My fresh new Hagon arrived yesterday afternoon. Everything was going smoothly. I removed the old shock and cleaned up the mounting bolts. Just to make sure everything was going to fit, I slid he bolts through the holes on the new shock...

Rear Bridgestone T30 not in high demand

I always thought it was the heat cycles on a tire that cause it to harden over time more so than the actual age.

4 Lessons - Costly, But Priceless

Totally unimpressed with the 80 miles dry run torture test. In 1972 a mechanic replaced a seal in the manual transmission of my Datsun 1200 and forgot to refill the transmission lubricant. I left, drove 800 back to Norfolk before discovering the transmission was empty. Filled it up and drove...

    Leg Burn

It's obviously a Gen III issue. Another great reason to hang on to my non-leg-burner Gen II. I promise I won't post pictures of my unburned leg to prove the point.

    Official SW-FOG 2015 Announcement: 5/28-31, THU-SUN!

Sorry to hear about your difficulties. Vegas is about 150 miles from here, but if there's anything I can do to help you out, let me know. John

    Official SW-FOG 2015 Announcement: 5/28-31, THU-SUN!

Some good rides with great people at this year's event. Gregory, Rick, and Bob at the Hwy 12 overlook on the way to the Burr Trail. If you didn't make it to the Burr Trail on this trip, I highly recommend it the next time you are in the area. Skippy and Petey at Kolob Reservoir. The scenery...

I'm surprised Karl didn't volunteer to take Carrie home for AJ.

    Official SW-FOG 2015 Announcement: 5/28-31, THU-SUN!

I used to save old tires with "a coupla thousand" left on them until I realized that for the amount of my labor involved in a tire change, I just mount a new one every time and chuck the old ones out. I guess in my experience, if it's bad enough to take off, it's bad enough to toss.

Why my side case fell off

The bits are pretty cheap if you can find a place that sells them individually. I'm surprised a moderator hasn't come on and asked why you didn't do a search. This topic has been hashed and rehashed many times over the years.

SHAD 45 top case falling off

Good point. I was just curious about the cause of the failure of the topcase to stay attached. I'm sure Shad didn't design them to randomly leave the motorcycle. I can only think of 3 possibilities. 1. Case not properly secured. Operator error. 2. Latch pushed into locking position but...

SHAD 45 top case falling off

After retrieving the trunk, did it lock securely to the rack? If so, maybe they were right about the trunk not being securely latched. Not familiar with Shads locking system but is it possible that dirt or corrosion in the latching mechanism prevented the latch from securing properly? Nothing...

How many FJRs do you see on an average day?

According to the July issue of Motorcyclist magazine, in the USA in 2014, there were 484,000 motorcycles sold, 271,000 of which were Harley Davidsons. No wonder everybody sees tons of Harleys on the road.
