Before you proceed to the next stage, have you cleared the faults within the ECU ?Might make it easier to fault find.

Diagnostic 60 &61 will show any history and diagnostic 62 should clear them.
Thanks, Ken. I just did. But code 13 keeps showing up. I found the sensor for the code. It is on the fuel rail. It looks fine, although one of the two mounting screws is missing. I will get a replacement screw tomorrow. I'm about spent for today. I'm a little bummed that it didn't start or try to start after I made progress and got spark. But I think I'll knock off for today and try again tomorrow. Thanks again

Okay. I cleared the Diag code, but it continues to show up. I replaced the missing mounting screw for the sensor. I took off the vacuum hose and checked it for obstructions - none.

I used starting fluid on it and it fired up and ran long enough to burn the starting fluid. I think that's a positive sign

I suspect the problem is with gummed up fuel delivery system now.

Does anyone have any recommendations on the best approach to this problem?

Thank you :)

Do you hear the fuel pump running when you turn the key to "on" and the ignition rocker switch "on"? Start there.

Then, through the diagnostic menu there's a way to be able to "fire" the injectors, the procedure can be found in the service manual. Or, someone will be along shortly to tell you how. Anyway, you should be able to hear the audible *click* of each injector firing, one at a time (selected by you).

As far as cleaning the injectors? I dunno, short of taking them off the fuel rail and sending them out I would try some Seafoam or STP fuel treatment or something along those lines. If you were to pull off the throttle bodies, you can see the underside of the injectors and get a visual on whether they're gummed up or not.

If the fuel pump does not run when the ignition is switched on, you might want to check the tip-over switch under the seat. If it was removed, it can be put back upside down and...no go.

And the secret(s) to the revivification? Or, are we going to have to buy the book?

This thread is almost book length! :)

You helped write it! :D

The secret is all recorded here. Basically, the last step of the process was that I used Starting Fluid to get it to actually maintain combustion. I did that about 4 times. Came in to read some more, letting it sit about 10 minutes, went back and tried it - Bingo!!! It fired up! :) It ran very rough for about 30 seconds and I was unsure it would keep running. But as I let it warm up and gave it some revs, it smoothed out. I have it on the center stand and ran it up and down the gears. They work! :D

Test ride is next! :D I am ALL SMILES RIGHT NOW :D :D :D

Meth? No. Coffee and positive excitement? Yes :D Sorry, it was a cellphone camera. I don't have a Sony Stabili-cam :p

Test ride?
No title?

No VIN?

You better mind yourself and keep a low profile.

Yes. I am well aware of that. But thank you for your concern and warning ;)

I hadn't planned to tear up the town like Brando:

No, just up and down my block a couple of times. Never more than a block from the house in a residential neighborhood not known to be regularly patrolled by LEOs ;) :) :D

So a missing spider was all that was wrong with it? Now I'm kicking myself for not having bought it ;-) Good luck with the National Socialists at DMV.

The video sounds like it's missing on one cylinder, or am I mis-hearing? That would also give the low idle.

But three out of four isn't bad.

Hope you've not got air in the clutch fluid, that can be a pig to bleed.

But, IT RUNS :) :) :)

Oh, yes, don't forget to screw the tank down properly before taking it for a run.

It was running rough when it first started. But it smoothed out after I let it run for about 10 minutes. I think it had some fuel varnish/gunk in the fuel delivery system and it took a few minutes to rinse it out. It is running smoothly and idling fine now.

Yeah, the missing spider appears to be the only serious thing wrong with it :D Thanks, I'll need the luck with the DMV. They are insane. But if worse comes to worst, I'll just buy a used frame off eBay and swap everything over. Even with that additional expense and labor, I will be sitting very good for overall investment.

The engine light is still on ??

Check the codes again, see if there is anything new there.

Remember that there are 2 idle circuits, a cold/fast idle and the normal warm idle, with adjustments for both.

That's what I thought when I test rode a bike once. Just around the block in a deeply-nested residential area. Didn't make it half way around the block before the lights and siren fired off. [sigh] that should have been a sign not to buy the POS but nOooOOoOOooo...

Glad to hear you're making progress.
