I'd be happy with a firm, supportive saddle...stock. At least on my( literally hot) '03, Yamaha offered an excellent Corbin built optional saddle from the start. Long trips on that saddle were fine. My much improved '06 suffers from the lack of a decent saddle, altho Sargent has finally come out with one. Also a carrier rack that was functional instead of cosmetic with hooks to attach to. Helmet locks that are easily accessible would be nice on a bike of this cost, too.

Other than that my '06 is just about purrfect! Well...if Winter would ever go away and SPRING would really arrive...........DFO

 
+1 on the electric reverse....

i cant beleive a bike this heavy dont have one standard...

i admit that im not the strongest guy in the world (or the fittest)

but i really have to think about where and how i park the thing.

a few days ago, a almost couldnt push the bike up a small incline (very small i might add) backwards.

it was so shallow that when i parked the bike, i was not remotly concerned that it might roll off the stand.

when i came back to it, i almost game myself a hernia reversing it. nearly didnt get it out of the parking spot.

my 0.02c.....

Uhm... no disrespect, but you're on the wrong bike.

You want the 'Wing or the K1200LT.

That isn't what the FJR is about.

I think Stretch got most of the real world stuff:

Six speed box (current 5 okay, needs a 6 for better highway cruising)

Revised throttle pulley and springs

Cruise Control (it is a tourer)

More colors and a bike with solid color, no silver at all

Headlight adjustment from one control on the left hand side only

Taller windscreen

Radiator Guard

Heated Grips on the "A" model as well

Self canceling indicators

ADD:

Sliders

Tire inflation monitor

6" wide rear wheel w/190/50-17

 
Only thing the new & improved 2008 FJR needs is less whiney owners!

Well, all that stuff would be great - especially electronic cruise control. But - we all love our bikes, right? I mean we really love this bike, right? So, after a short day ride today (250 m) it came to me: right at the base of the gas tank there needs to be an indenture (@8-10 inches deep) - you know - a place to park your equipment. Probably needs some sort of locking cap so no one else could use it. Come on - you know what I'm talking about. ;)

+1 on the stealth for radar invisability

Also a built in laser jammer and a cloaking device for when you do attract the LEOs

Also built in broadband with internet surfing capability so that we could go for a ride and still keep up on repying to forum posts. Maybe a membrane keyboard on an ECM shelf with HUD on the windscreen. :yahoo:

 
Electronic cruise: www.mccruise.com looks factory stock...

Windscreen: 457,000 after market choices out there (well. maybe not that many, but you get my drift...)

Seat - mine is fine for all day riding, YMMV...

Throttle spring: 150% agree - the 1 turn spring mod transforms the bike - why can't it come stock like that??

6 speed: not needed, IMHO - my FJR is doing 3.5K RPM at the national speed limit in top gear.....

Colour choice: Yamaha US is screwing you...why does the largest market get the least choice??

Surging/FI map problems: The Aussie spec 06 FJR's obviously are operating with a different (non eco-Nazi) map, as mine has no problems.... Some well placed source in Yamaha needs to leak the instructions for changing the FI map - easily doable these days....if I can download whatever songs I want for free, why can't I get a new Yamaha map (and the instructions)?

Oh yes - reverse gear....I have cursed the fat FJR on a couple of occasions....the secret (as with all big bikes) is not to park the bike facing downhill, however slight the grade...

Why? Seriously, why? I find I get much better gas mileage keeping the beast at or above 4k RPMs in casual cruising. The 5th gear is fine for high-speed cruising, and with the amount of torque this engine slams down on the street, there's really no need to add more, closer-ratio gears and more shifting.

At the end of the day, it's not a sport bike, even tho' with a good rider it'll surprise a lot of gixxer squids. But frankly, a good rider on a Harley Dynalide will do that :rolleyes:

I've done very little to my bike:

* changed out the horrible stock seat

* added some farkles including GPS, heated grips and Chatterbox

* added a Givi case

To each his own, but I honestly think some of you are on the wrong bike.

I swear I'm going to have to do a video teaching all you people how to actually maneuver a motorcycle around. Get off the reverse gear already, people!!! They're NOT going to add it. And rightly so. Sheesh! (point of note: the electric system on the BMW is actually licensed from Honda, as originally debuted on the Goldwing. That design was also envisioned, if I recall correctly, by Porsche as part of the V-Rod engine design discussions quite a number of years ago. Wouldn't it have been interesting if Harley had added that feature to their touring bikes. Then you all would be pointing and laughing at it as more pirate-brigade crap.)

PS... yes, a few model-independent color choices would be nice!

I would like to see: A six speed transmission, color choice, more accessories available directly from Yamaha. How about your recommendations? Let's send them over to Yamaha...

Most everything can be done via the aftermarket.

750 watt alternator can't. PLEASE Mammy Yammy, give us one!

 
If I had to pick a top 3 (with my limited FJR experience) I'd pick:

> Better seat...why do stock seats always suck. I'd rather have it come without a seat and knock several hundred off the price

> throttle spring - 'nuff said

> cruise control

the ultimate add-on - a FLUX CAPACITOR!

 
I don't see Yamaha upgrading the FJR much because the bike is appealing to a diverse group. Let's face it...the FJR is attracting the following demographics:

1) sportbike riders wanting something more comfortable, tour-capable

2) 'Wingers and the like wanting something more sportier

3) cruisers getting something sportier and/or more tour-capable

Yamaha just can't make a bike that appeals to everyone.

My suggested upgrade: more chrome :yahoo:

 
Being a dealer the one thing I know is that Yamaha does not take the time to read this forum. Many times I have asked at dealer meetings and have always received the same answer, No we did not see that or no we do not monitor that forum.

A six speed is a must!!! Color would be RED since there has never been one in the USA. Stiffer suspension would be nice but in all honesty, it is my favorite Yamaha! Pass these along to Yamaha and let me know if you get a reply, I will not hold my breath!
