Oh my. I have had a really heavy feeling about this ever since reading the first post about the incident. It sounds like this would take a miracle now for his life and a life worth living. If he indeed does not live out a further natural life, I salute him for what he has done in his life. I've met him only once at Spartanburg, but this has been hitting me hard since this afternoon. Prayers for comfort for Davo's family and friends. Words just fail many of us now.

As an ICU nurse, I'm reading these posts with a lump in my throat. I don't even know the man, but can sense how much he is loved by his friends. It might take a miracle, and there might be one out there with his name on it. No-one knows for sure, so I'm joining the many good people who are rooting for a good outcome for Davo. However this plays out, Davo and his friends and family will know that he did the Iron Butt 09 rally and darned near finished it. He's already a hero, along with all the other riders.

Prayers for Davo and everyone who loves him.

The Iron Butt Team

I would just like to say a big thank you to Dale and all the others that have kept us information junkies updated and glued to our computers for the last 11 days. It's during times like this when things go wrong that you find out just how good the team is, obviously the team at Iron Butt is pretty darn good.

For the competitors it must be pretty hard, just completing one of the toughest events a person could ever put themselves through, only to have to temper that elation and celebration due to the recent events.

Guys and Gals of Iron Butt thanks for the information and the postings, can't wait for the individual stories to come out.

Get well Davo

DB & Mrs DB

Here's the link to the Aussie Forum, discussing Davo's accident, if you read the posts Davo has some serious support behind him, with all of us wishing him well how can it not turn out the way it should.

Remember he is a LONG way from home, probably taking part in his lifelong dream. Would he have known about deer strikes, probably not.

I just hope his family can get over here quickly to give him the love and support he obliviously is going to need.

C'mon Aussie get well real soon.

Da Pommie
I had a brief interview on Side Stand Up and Davo immediately followed my spot. I seem to recall there being mention of kangaroo strikes as being just as common in Aust. as deer strikes here in the states.

I recall as a child, when you saw a deer it was a really special rare thing. Now you can't take out the garbage without having to shoo them away. Don't know what the answer is but it is a problem that will continue to plague our sport for some time. I keep telling all of my deer hunting buds to keep them under control. More deer than hunters.

Agreed. Kangaroo = Deer.

Here in Oz...you could ride across the paddock (Nullabor Plain - between West Australia and South Australia) and not see a single one. Come back 24hrs later...and they will be out in plague proportions.

I have done the paddock many a time in a car, and the slowest one was a recorded top speed of 60 km/h for 230km. It's not the ones on the road you have to watch for...it's the suicidal idiots that want to bound across the road just as you approach them. Then they get half way across the road and stop. You can almost see them think "F*ck...I shouldn't have done that". They look at you, and you can see their minds trying to decide which way to go. It's a crap shoot. You're lucky...or you're not.

If there is a funny side...it's when it's raining, and you see the 'roo stop halfway and try and change course. The legs are going everywhere while he tries to gain traction on a bitumen road. Fail.

And please don't feel sorry for our National Emblem. There's enough of them out there, that a serious culling wouldn't dent. Camels are next on the list (apparently there are more camels in Central Australia than in Arabia etc)

If what's posted on the Aussie LD rider's site is true, then this IBR rally has taken a very serious turn.

Well said.

Prayers sent out to Davo and especially his family. Just spent a significant amout of time on my patio thinking of him.

With all due respect, can we all move on to what's the point of this thread, the Rallye, and let his family and friends alone for a while? They no doubt have already established an info link to his situation which is beyond our collective speculation.

What's going on in the Banquet???

Just received a PM from one of the members at Farriders.com

Hi Steve noticed you're a member on the FJR forum over in USA. Could you thank them for us for the support and to keep cheering for Davo ? Thanks mate...

Cheers Phil

So....on behalf of every one down here...thanks guys and gals. The sentiments are awesome. The support is magnificent, and through all of this, we remain brothers in a common goal.

COME ON DAVO!

Yep, your 'roos sound like our deer ("forest rats") -- dumber than hammered bird **** and suicidal. Unfortunately, we probably see them most often darting out of the woods where they're camoflaged by similar colors, and they'll come from all angles, including straight up or down steep banks. Too often, they move so fast that you have no time to react if you do see one before it's on the road and a collision is imminent with it or the couple others making the same dash.

My family will continue to pray for Davo and his family. I've never done a Rally (but will one day soon) and since I've joined this forum, I truly feel like I'm a part of great Motorcycle family. I have friends that think it's weird to ride over to a strangers home and have them help me work on my bike and then eat dinner with their family and sleep in their RV or home. I just tell them, that they don't understand or appreciate how great a community of people there are on this and other forums.

I have seen more "Acts of kindness" in this group of wonderful people, then I have in other areas of my life.

Dave

Way to go Greg and Matt. Outstanding. :clapping:

I am especially proud of TurboDave for completing the rally even though he wasn't a finisher. That is a tough event for anyone and he should be proud. :drinks:
