The main thing with this weekend is pace and spacing.

Pace - Regardless of what anyone else in your group is doing, keep a reasonable pace that is yours...not the pace of the guy in front or behind you. Own it. Live it. Love it. On the curves...slow in...fast out.

If the general pace of your group is too fast...at one of the turns or breaks, let your "leader know that you will wait for the next group to come along...it might be at a pace to your liking.

If the pace of your group is too slow, feel free to head to the front of your group and lead it...or if that is still too slow, then at one of the breaks, let the others of your group know and head off by yourself to catch up to the next group ahead of you.

I can't possibly know everybody's relative pace....so feel free to make adjustments after the ride begins.

I also allow passing within a group...so long as it is not a competive "race type" thing. I wave faster riders past me on a straight section and I pass slower riders on a straight section. Just because you happened to start number 4 in the group does not mean you need to stay there. Just be safe about it. People's relative skills and pace seem to sort themselves out within the first hour or so of the ride and things start to settle down within the group.

ALSO, if a group of FJRs (or other bikes) is coming on the rear of your group, go to the right fog line in the straight and wave them through...DON'T be a road blocker like the Harley parades.

Spacing - If you are continually on the @ss of the person's bike in front of you...I am personally going to come and kick yours. Save that for you and your track day. If someone is doing that, I want to hear about it so I can talk with them face to face and disinvite them from the activities. I want everybody to get home safe and sound and don't want any asswads screwing up a great time.

Don't get me wrong, I like to ride and ride hard...though I am typically very rusty in May. I sometimes break my own rules. I sometimes break other people's rules...but not on a continual basis.

Last year I rode with riders that are considerably above my skill level. They were never on my butt, but were 4-5 seconds behind me typically. They certainly could have been closer if they wanted, but they did not want my riding style to distract them from the way they rode. I am not saying you need to do that, but give the guy in front of you a couple seconds...unless you are going to pass him.

Give people space.

Finally...with the speech over...

We have 20-25 bikes coming together to ride the Ramble this weekend...let's all play nice and have a great time so everybody can get home safely.

I can lead but most people prolly won't want me to. I have this really weird self preservation thing where if I can't see where I'm going through a turn, I slow way the hell down so that my braking distance and my sight line are the same. Guess I'm not one of the guys who likes to blast into a turn sight line be damned. Besides, even riding like I do I can still blow a line.

Oh - and Bungie - there's this really great road in southern Ohio I saw on Google. I know right where it is. Or, at least where it should be... Maybe... :)
Kay, I'm riding with Geek & Sooz. He has that same self preservation streak I have.

As for that road in NC. You know we were this > < close right. I'm about 99% sure it's the road through parking lot down to the boat launch. But would anybody wait for me to see.. NOOOOOOoooo, you all wanted to get back to the banquet on time. Losers. Hey, wait, you STILL made me lead (remember somebody whining they didn't want to ride the dragon and well, I was leading.. the Dragon it is!) after.

At least I got you all back to the banquet on time. Barely.

+1 on too fast into the corners!

Just learned that there is going to be a bicycle tour between Columbus and Portsmouth this weekend, so for anyone riding through that part of the state, at the very least avoid Route 104 between Columbus and Portsmouth.

Thanks Andy. Griff and I will be crossing that on Friday just west of Circleville on 56.

Is that TOSRV? Tour of the Scioto River Valley I rode that a loooong time ago. 100 miles one day and then turn around and ride 100 miles back.

If everything works out the way its planned, I'll be getting to Wixom when Nick gets out of work at 3:30PM. We'll be heading to the Iron Pony as fast as possible. Slim chance we'll meet up with extrememarine and UselessPickles if they're still there. We should be at the Iron Pony by 7, if anyone else wants to meet up. Not planning on spending a ton of time there, but enough to look around. The idea is to leave and make it to Caldwell by 9-9:30 PM.

Bockelrider and I are meeting at the Bob Evans in North Canton between 5 and 6. We are going to take 800 South to 78 then West to Caldwell. Should arrive 9 to 10, depending how many times I stop to mark my territory

Ray

We should be able to get to Bob Evans 3:30-4:00. If we go down 800 we should hit Caldwell around 7. As I recall I am due to buy the beer this time!

I will call as we leave the house Friday.

Steve

BTW - the Beallsville Diner (Saturday lunch stop) was cash only the last time I was there. May have changed over the last 3 or 4 years, but just so you know...

Jimbo's may be cash only as well. Can't remember - it's been a while since I've been there, too.

Thought I'd pass these tidbits along since I typically do not carry cash, and the nice people at the Beallsville Diner looked at me like I was a ****** when I pulled out my debit card to pay for lunch.

Thanks Andy for the reminder! :clapping:

I've been to Jimbo's...but it's been a few years. I've never been to the Bealsville Diner...but have always heard about it.

I'm like you, I carry very little cash, so this was a very timely reminder.

We'll be getting there in groups of four...so we should be okay.

But yeah, I'll google their phone number and give them a call. Damn...you guys are making me organize stuff. I'm gonna have to up the entry fee for next year. :D

Regarding the Bealsville Diner...MS S&T had it located west of town....so the GPS routes probably have that waypoint west of town. Since I've never been there, I didn't know any better.

After googling for their phone number, Google places it right in town, just west of the gas station in town. Streetview confirmed it.

So follow the following address, not the gps ***** box.

Address: 52733 Ohio Ave, Beallsville, OH 43716

Phone: (740) 926-2200
