The 2013 Iron Butt Rally will take off on Monday, July 1, 2013 from Western Pennsylvania and will finish back at the start location on Friday, July 12.

Thanks for the reply. I must admit that when I heard Northeast was was thinking a little more north and a little more east.............like Maine.

Canadian FJR

Yea, but that makes a NE corner in Maine all the more unobtainable on either the first or last leg. There's deviousness in the decision of the start location I'm sure.

If I am available for this I would love to join you on this, keep me posted
The Iron Butt Rally isn't something you join in if you're available! There's an application process over a year before the start and a whole lot of preparation!

Definitely read up on the rally at ironbutt.com. I hope you get inspired to join in some of the fun.

Is there a way to volunteer to help?

4. Can I volunteer to help out during the Rally? Does it improve my chances of getting in to the next Rally?Volunteer opportunities are very limited, and we prefer to fill most of the volunteer positions with Iron Butt Rally veterans. Working as a volunteer does not improve your chances in the next drawing.

So I just got my IBA Calendar, and I look at the dates for July, and it has the Pennsylvania start on July 1, but then it lists a Checkpoint 1 back in Pennsylvania on July 4, followed by Checkpoint 2 in California (Northern?) on July 7 and then the longest stretch back to the finish on July 12 in Pennsylvania.

Very interesting, and I look forward to being at the California Checkpoint next July 7, which is a Sunday for anyone following along.

Is the IBA Calendar a published thing? I would like to hangout/encourage/help if needed at one of the checkpoints. Anything in NY, VT, MA?

Yes calendars are purchasable here.

Doug correctly identified the known information about checkpoints....so, no, NY, VT, nor MA are likely checkpoints.

I'd personally suggest the finish line. Many riders have a game face on and don't/won't have time for chit chat at the checkpoints and as the starting time approaches.
