The biggest expense I had with the K1200RS was the clutch...it's a dry clutch and an o-ring thingy that keeps the engine oil in the engine degraded ( a design / manufacturing flaw that BMW never fessed up to) and oil leaked through soaking the plates. To get at that o-ring they had to completely disassemble the bike from the back to the front. They let me into the shop to see the work in progress and all that was left on the bike lift was the front wheel/ forks and engine/ front frame. There were bits and pieces everywhere. Here's the killer...the o-ring was a $2 part....all that trouble and expense over a $2 part!

On another note....the final drive was perfectly fine up to 34,000 miles...that's when I sold it. Whether it was fine for another 34,000 miles I couldn't say.

Hmmmmmm...My brother's GSA is as cheap or cheaper to maintain as my FJR...AND Hella easier.

Maybe its the I4 K bikes that are a PITA.

OK, time to save this thread from a boring, self-flagellating, death spiral to doom...

I fully realize the "intricacies" of the BMW K1200RS. IMO, they are the Brazilian Bikini babes of the Sport Touring world...

You don't really want to put up with all the crap all that much, but when you do take it out those few times a year, it would probably be worth the price of admission...

Or you could hang around with a bunch of propeller heads and talk about astral physics and Controller Area Network busses. Your choice.

I don't even care what the rest of her looks like. That right there is awesome...Now, what stupid thing were we arguing about??

So I take it, this is the only way to get guys to talk about BMW pricing?

Works for me. :)

Crack open those wallets now while there's still time!

Check out the price he's asking for his "R&D" (parts swapping - I bet you don't get all those extra bits).

Read how he replies to questions without actually answering them (how much does it actually weigh, since weight reduction was your "big pitch"?)

Resurrecting this thread to get opinions on the following bikes:

2014 S1000R

2014 R NINE T

Will be trading in the little dude (my training wheel CBR250R). Which should just cover my TTL, and a new Arai Full-Face

. Been looking at naked's for a while for local riding and weekends in NW Arkansas (on the back of my truck from Dallas - the FJR has spoiled me).

The S1000R seems like a LOT of bike for the money.

Not to me. The Yamaha FZ-09 seems to fill that same naked, hooligan bike billet for **** load less Deutschmarks.

MSRP of $7990 for the Yammie vs $13,150 for the Beamer. I'll do the math for you: How much riding can you get done with an extra $5,160 samoleans in your wallet? I know I'd sure have a hard time justifying the extra money for the BMW. YMMV.

I've been all over the FZ at the dealer. Looks like a great bike but, for me, without ABS its a non-starter. Only 3.7 gallon tank - bit light.

https://www.bmwdfw.org +1, Gunny: David, join up with Dallas/Fort Worth BMW Club for breakfast next Saturday, chances are good you can talk to an Owner!

"Restaurant and Times for the Saturday Breakfast
Saturday breakfast is 7:30 to 8:45am (we have to vacate the back room by 9am) at the Original Pancake House in Grapevine, 1505 William D Tate Avenue, Grapevine, TX 76051, (817) 421-3444. https://www.originalpancakehouse.com/. The restaurant is on William D Tate in Grapevine, one block North of the Mustang Drive traffic light (next door to Buffalo Wild Wings… the Wings overhead sign partially blocks the Pancake House sign)."

Over the years I have camped with these BMWDFW Beemer Riders at BMW MOA Rallies and they are a great group of Guys and Gals, real friendly folks!
