Damn near have the place sold out, if all the "interested" book.

Will go on the hunt for another motel, there is another one close by that usually only opens for the Sturgis Rally, I'll visit with the owner next week and see if they would be amenable to opening up for a long weekend.

I booked a single bed room, no more double bed rooms left.
Sounds like they'll be some spooning going on in Spearfish...

Another one bites the dust. Booked, one less room available.

It's going to be a long cold winter, waiting.waiting.

Most of us won't have a chance. There'll be Canadians.
Good point, OM. So you're suggesting that in order to level the drinking field, John should require and enforce a "no beer without US passport" rule?

OK, you buttheads...since so many of you have already reserved your room, I was compelled to do the same...11 months in advance! Count me on the going side of the ledger, with my wife, Erin, as pillion. Never been to this area of the country and can't wait to ride up there! Thanks for setting this up, John.

Scott said he was about 2/3 full and can't believe that he will probably sell out so far in advance.

Holy Smokes John, it looks like the Black Hills FJR Roundup is going to be a hit! I reserved my room for the wife and I today after logging on and seeing the flurry of activity. Scott is a little baffled by the early interest and all the reservations.

I couldn’t wait for next year to meet this new fellow Bigjohnsd, see the city of Spearfish and the Bell Motel so I decided to make a small detour while returning from SWFOG in early June. My plan was to swing through Spearfish, say hi to John, and check out the Bell Motel before knocking out the last leg of my trip home. Unfortunately I made the mistake of warning John that I was coming and he left town before my arrival.

I made a quick tour of the town, stopped in to say hi to Scott at the Bell Motel, fueled up and took off in a hurry trying to outrun some ominous clouds coming in.

That plan failed. By the time the storm had cleared I decided to return to the Bell Motel in Spearfish for the night. It looked like a road side Motel from days gone by but was different in that it was immaculately maintained, charming and located within walking distance of several restaurants, and bars downtown. I think it will work perfect as a FJR event location.

And now for the rest of the story and how John and his wife went out of their way to help me out.

The next morning I woke up at the Bell Motel to a beautiful blue bird morning eager to get home and get caught up with my life that I had ignored for 9 days. I quickly loaded up the bike, checked the forecast to find perfect riding weather and shot out of Spearfish. I was just ready to take a right out of Newell SD about 30 miles out of spearfish when a pickup pull up along side of me and says my right saddle bag is open. DOHHH

I originally thought that all I had lost was some cloths but thought I might as well back track to find the saddle bag liner laying along the road. I returned all the way to Spearfish not seeing anything, checked with Scott at the Bell Motel, the Spearfish Police department, and the county sheriffs department. No luck was had and also realized that the lost saddle bag liner contained a tablet, CPAP, shaver and everything else I had along that I didn't want to loose. Double

! I Hopped on my bike to leave Spearfish again and retrace the path one more time but didn't have any luck finding anything in the tall grass along the road and figured everything was gone for good.

One week later I had a voice mail from the Belle Fouche County highway department. They had found my saddle bag liner in the ditch along the road soaking wet and scuffed up from the 65 MPH get off. They fired up my tablet and found my email address and name on the password log in page, contacted the sheriffs to report the lost item and got my phone number. UNBELEVABLE turn of events. But they didn't have a petty cash account or a credit card and couldn't figure out how to mail me the bag to save me the 1100 mile round trip to retrieve my stuff. WTF South Dakota Highway Department?

So I had to come up with plan B on how to get my bag. I hated to bother him but I called John to see if he would be nice guy and drive 11 miles to Belle Fouche get my bag and mail it too me. But the plan was foiled when John said he was on the FJR heading East across Minnesota. Despite my protests he said he would send his wife Jeanie to fetch the bag and mail it. Now I am really feeling bad bothering not just John but his great wife who dropped what she was doing raced off to retrieve my wet soggy bag and mailed the bag to me that very day.

With my 24 hour shifts screwing things up I received the bag the following Tuesday 5 days later. I was afraid to open it up to see what kind of mess my electronics and dirty underwear were in. The Saddle bag liner was pretty scuffed up and had a few holes in it. It obviously must of held on until I was up to highway speed before jumping ship. The contents were wet, stinky and , moldy but everything worked when tested and the only damaged content was my Clearwater Andie flashlight (Thanks to Swag master Marty at CFO) that had worn through the bag and had a little road rash but worked fine.

To make a long story short. I had a feeling John was a special kind of guy taking on this Black Hills Roundup and I was anxious to meet him. Now I know John is a great guy and can't wait for the day I get to meet him and his awesome Wife.

John I hope you were able to take that little extra I sent with the postage money and do something nice for Jeanie!

You guys are my hero's!

Let's not go that far, Rich.

We don't want them rioting, ….like they do when they don't win the Cup. :D

So what yer really trying to say is that, worded that way, such a rule would be over-inclusive?

Who do you mean by "us," paleface? You're what, renouncing the country of your birth now? I'd never do that. Even if I was a Canadian. Which I'm not, of course. Thank God.

Great story, Abercrombie. I pulled my magnetic tank bag off to get gas in Pahrump, Nevada, set it on the back somewhere, and rode off. Noticed I was looking down at my gas cap and not the bag 20 miles down the road. Same story exactly. Except for the part about getting the call a week later and getting my stuff back.

@ bigjohn--This could be quite a boost for the South Dakota economy. Make it an annual event. All those local businesses could have TWO big weeks a year. "Metric Sturgis" or something. Maybe the legislature would subsidize us.

Beer - I will devise a suitable handicap for our friends from the North, first thoughts involve drinking only when their heads are between their legs or possibly only while embraced with aforementioned Montana Blondes?

I am open to additional suggestions!
