A tale as old as the sea. A grizzled old sailor with a bed to share and no takers. Alas, the day of the Cabin Boy has passed.

I do love Beartooth Pass.

I have no accommodations yet, I live in Bozeman. But unless I lose 30lbs between now and then I am a snorer. I'd like to spare someone that misery.. So if someone has an extra room I would be interested.

(But if I lose 30 lbs, I will have wasted money respringing and rebuilding the Penske I just bought.. But if I lose 30 lbs I might sleep better and live longer..

Does anybody know if the road between Ten Sleep and Manderson is paved? Thought I'd try it going or coming from Greybull rather than taking 16. Mapquest says it's shorter.

Yes the road is paved and it is a Gem. A few deer now and again, but never any of the PoPo :)

Thanks, I will ride it inbound from Rapid City.

My vacation bid for the Red Lodge trip was not approved, but after holding out hope and a few transfers by other people....I finally got approved for the time off!!!!! I am so freaken excited I can't believe it. Ordered the shirts for the wife and I; a few thing to do to the black eagle and we will be off for Red Lodge. We are looking forward to seeing everyone again this year.

I can't wait to meet you! You have been added to the attendance list. Let me know if you would like your lodging location added to the attendance list.

I was just about to ask that.. so I'm bringing my heated gear :)
The first time I was going to ride Beartooth I asked my buddy from Billings what gear I should bring. His answer was, "no matter what time of year it is, bring it all"! :)

All you out of towners, keep a couple of things in mind. (I realize most of us know this, but I thought I'd say it anyway)

1. Altitude does = cold. At many of the peaks you will cross it will be 20-30 degrees cooler than it was 20-30 minutes earlier on your trip... be prepared.

Don't forget the power of a good set of rain gear. Will keep you warm when you need it. (i wear smartwool in all temperatures, it works for sheep...)

Same thing for hanging out in the evening hours. It will probably drop 20-30 degrees from the warmest part of the day. I bet even more.

2. Watch for animals - Where there's one, there's many. If you see a deer, bison, elk, and even moose and bear - there are more, and they are about to jump in front of you from a direction you did not expect. When you least expect it, expect it.

3. Keep in mind that some of these roads (beartooth especially) are frequented by locals who commute between towns. They are at home enough on these roads to occasionally come around a corner over the yellows just enough to scare bejesus out of you. When you least expect it,....

I am looking forward to meeting you all.. I am hoping some of you will like Montana so much you'll come back to the Big Sky Rally. (every two years in August, next one being 2017..)
