In Southern Cali...

It is time for my valves, called the stealer Mission Yamaha and quoted $580 for the job plus some parts whatever they are. It is really some serious $$ for this and I am really not in the mood for getting

right now. Plus I heard a limited number of cases of some jobs going bad like ending up with Ford Focus engine inside instead. Looked at the write ups and it looked just a little bit...I mean just a tiny bit complicated

May Allah grant you Wizdom and Prosperity....

BigD....

I had mine done a few months ago at 30,000, I was tied up at 26,000 and then had a trip to go on so waited till got back home.

mine cost $220 as there was no adjustment needed which is true in most cases.

I'm glad I live in Tx where it is cheaper than Ca.

I don't know if you consider Fresno as southern Cal, but Wilson's has gotten some good reviews.

Wilson Motorcycle thread

Another thread had a quote of $210 for the valve service (3 hours labor) at Wilsons, IIRC.

You are touching on a big worry of mine. If/when I need to take mine in, I worry about the quality of service personel at dealerships! I think most are sub-par.

TurboDave and Skyway have recommended "Yamaha of Cucamonga" in the past. Says they have 'older' experienced techs that know what they are doing. I'll probably go there when needed.

I just picked up GZ from YOC Tuesday evening...he was dropping his FJR off for a valve job. Once it's done I'll ask him to post here and provide any feedback that he can.

Oh Georgiiiie....where you at???

blue devil, yeh Cali is a little expensive, comes with the package deal.

GunMD, keep me posted for the service.

Socalrk, will give these guys a call, not too far away. Been there and most of the work they do lately are dirt bikes in the shop. Will get an idea on the cost and the quality this weekend when I pay them a visit.

Yambone, Freson is a little far, takes about a couple of hours on the FJR to get up there lol.

Defenitely not taking this to BERTS! These are guys are THE SUCK!

Armand,

Just trade the ***** in! :D ;)

Seriously, lemme know what you find out about pricing... I'm coming up PDQ to valve adjust time, too.

KEBABS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me get these valves in place and will have the Armand annual Kebob party with Babaghanouj!

May Allah give you the brains to come over and do Armands valves for free :bleh:

Can't comment on price for the valve job, but the head mechanic Bill knows his stuff, as does the owner. When they went through my cylinder head, they even went the extra mile and used half size shims for valve clearance.

I will say that leaving my FJR with anyone is not something I take lightly anymore, YOC worked out great for me.

Woof, you're really asking for a miracle, aren't you!!! :D

(Iffin' I could, I'd be down lickety split!)

will go to YOC tomorrow for an estimate and talk to Bill

so far, Berts, HAMM and Mission are out for both price and service. Berts is definitly BAD service. HAMM is both, Mission is cost.

Hey Big D,

Yammi of Pasadena has a 5 star service dept. I left my Connie there for some work and tires when I picked up my FJR and they did a good job, I haven't had to have any thing done on my FJR yet so that is my only experiance there (Besides getting a fair deal on the FJR).

But if you drop it of there I'm 10 min away and have a BBQ that can handle those Kabab's of yours! :D

hey Rogue, could be worth the try...I will call em up for estimates tomorrow.

Probably make a call day and post the prices here...

Just let me know and i'll pick you up from the dealership if you decide on Pasadena.

Armand,

SBMS says the book calls it a 5 hour job, 7 if they have to pull the cams. (I don't know why they would need to... shims?) Their shop rate is $70/hr or max 490 *choke* bucks, plus shims and gasket, tax and your first born.

Let us know what you find out...

Well folks,

I just rode the bike ( long way up and over the mountains ) back from YOC, and I'm pleased to report my bike is actually better then before. It has a new life in regards to power, and about 7 miles per hour faster on the top end. Nice.

The tech said my engine looked like it had 500 miles on it. Perfectly clean inside. The cams were only worn just a teeny bit at the top of the lobes, otherwise you could still see the casting marks.

I paid $502- out the door with 2 shims, coolant, etc.

Very happy with Yamaha of Cucamonga. Strongly recommend.

Just incase you wanted some more cool scoop on GZ's bike, the mechanic stated that his engine looked "better than perfect" and "phenomenal". It's like this guy wanted to sleep with George or something...he just kept feeding his ego.

"Better then perfect", I forgot that part.

I think it was the plate back, get'sem every time. ;)

Thanks again Gun for the shuttle bus. Preciate that.
