BTW, being as how OM was the original poster, I thought this thread was gonna be some nasty, double entendre post.I'm glad to see he didn't resort to that...
BTW?

Very ....charitable of you WheatonFJR.

Ha, ha: OM, I thought the same damn thing as Wheatie did! Was expecting your Irish wit to spring real doozy on our forum!

Wednesday 10:30PM

Greetings all,

It was a lovely day in Tyler’s neighborhood.

I had a busy Tyler day. Our regular Wednesday morning was filled with her Caring Bridge post, doctor visits, physical therapy, and shopping lists.

I arrived to find Tyler awake and eagerly awaiting my arrival. Before she ate her breakfast she wanted to post her message. It was so important she communicate how she felt about the outpouring of support from you, her devoted legion of family and friends.

Soon Dr. Davis, her plastic surgeon, turned up. He report all her “numbers” looked good. He also told Tyler one small patch of skin graft on her bottom was not responding as hoped. Though disappointing, he told her the plan to get her out of the Burn Unit and into rehab would not be delayed.

Together, we counted the weeks since her accident, this is week 10, and Dr. Davis reminded Tyler the ortho-pods said 10-12 weeks post surgery to start weight bearing. His plans were to check with his colleagues and determine an action plan.

A few minutes later in walk her physical therapy crew. Based on how Tyler was feeling, the decision was to dangle her feet over the edge of her bed. It has been over a week since Tyler has tried to sit-up so she was concerned about being able to do so. With a bit of coaxing/support from her P.T. crew and my outreached hand for leverage, she scooted her legs across the bed and pulled herself into an upright position.

A long sigh clearly demonstrated how wonderful it felt to be sitting. She worked hard to hold her torso upright on her own. With help she was able to twist to the right and left. When asked how she was doing, she replied she was tiring but very happy to have her back to the air and seeing the world from a new position. I looked at her glowing face knowing exactly how she felt.

We had a conversation with the P.T. crew about her short-term path. Plans are to get her in the wheel chair and when she can handle 20 minutes, she can be rolled outside. Oh my, did her face light up. “ You mean fresh air?” Yep. Fresh air. Her evening nursing staff will be asked to get her up for an edge of the bed sit so she can build strength and endurance.

We also chatted about the Rehab Center where she will be transferred when her doctors give the OK. Tyler was enthisastic, but uncertain about the move. A short time later I departed, with my shopping list in hand, as Tyler needed a snooze before her mid-day bandage change.

When speaking with Susan about my visit, she suggested we make a visit to the Rehab Center to take a few photos to give Tyler a sense of where she was headed. Her great idea resulted in a fabulous outcome.

I met Susan at the hospital and we found the Rehab Center. I expected to get some resistance to our request to take a few photos. We were pleasantly surprised to receive a full tour from the head nurse. WOW….what a fabulous facility.

Our guide gave us the royal treatment. From ground floor rooms with huge windows to the patio and full gym with a therapy dog, this place is top notch. After snapping photos, looking in sleeping rooms, and petting the dog, Susan and I walked away knowing Tyler is headed to a professional and caring environment.

The two Sue’s rushed back to Tyler’s room. We were grinning from ear to ear. Tyler gave us the “what are you two up to” look. As Susan showed her the photos, I gave her the overview about her next stop on her recovery road. After listening and looking, she thanked us for taking the time to help lessen her anxiety over moving to a new place.

I took my leave a short time later to give Susan and Tyler a chance to chat and catch up.

I had a lovely Tyler day. I believe she had one as well.

Sweet dreams,

Sue

Twas a wonderful note from Tyler and I was so happy to read it! At first, I'd thought that Old Michael had indeed snuck into her room dressed in drag in order to get a photograph of her giving him the finger. Was just wondering what dress he wore!
Your old dress, DonnieBoy!
Tyler, sweetie! You go gurll, you GO!

My sentiments exactly: Tyler, sweetie! You go gurll, you GO!

Wow, if OM wore the black gown I lent him, he really had to hem it in!

I've been following her progress on Caringbridge and was really happy to hear her words on the page. She is a strong gal! Keep going Tyler!

OM, don't take any crap from those old farts :glare: Be proud of your transvestite leanings, and show us how color coordinated and stylish you can be!

Greetings,

Just a quick update as it is late. Tyler is doing great -- yes color back, engaging in conversation, sassy, that smile -- gorgeous.

As she had her dinner this evening she more than once told her nurse NO MORE CARROTS and swore that she would never eat a cooked carrot again after her hospital stay. And with that she smiled that smile and her nurse in agreement smiled right back at her.

Tyler was tired as the evening wore -- she dozed off and on for almost two hours during our visit. I waited and stroked her hair and held her hand. Her nurse announced that she has been working hard sitting up and pulling herself up -- it showed. She slept through most of the prodding.

Tyler was going to be well rested for her bandage change -- and she was. I left as they started getting ready to do just that with a big hug and an even bigger smile.

It will be a big family filled weekend for Tyler and she is looking forward to it -- her sister from LA will be visiting.

Oh -- Tyler did talk about the Range of Light ride this year -- she can't wait to hear all about the journey. She said more than once how much she appreciates all the support, love and thoughts -- she truly feels blessed.

Greetings,

I hope each of you had a lovely Labor Day weekend.

Tyler’s weekend was filled with visits from her family. Sister Cynthia flew in from Southern California while mom Vanna and step-dad Ed drove down from the Sierra foothills.

Reports from various Support Team members who visited over the weekend tell us Tyler’s physical therapy has gained intensity. Not only is she dangling her feet over the edge of her bed, she is doing forearm curls, and side bends.

I visited this morning and found her bright and chatty. As she ate breakfast we talked about our weekend activities and I read her the latest posting to her Caring Bridge guestbook. She is always happy to hear from you all.

Not much else to report. Please know Tyler is getting along fine. Each day presents her with new challenges, physical and emotional, with some more difficult than others. We all know Tyler will rise to the occasion to face each challenge with the gusto that has carried her through these last two months.

Have a pleasant evening.

Sue

Man, it's good to hear that she's happy, or at least keeping her chin up.

Time passes slowly in a hospital, and considering the length of her stay,

there are bound to be periods of depression mixed in with the "bright and chatty" moments.

So, hey!

Doesn't it feel good to take a moment and leave some words for her on the CaringBridge guestbook,

or send her a corny card?

WAHOO!!! Tyler got her first fresh air in 58 days (but who's counting...oh that's right, she is! ;-) when they took her outside in her wheelchair this morning. As I walked up to her room, there she was, still sitting in her wheelchair, her beautiful prayer shawl around her shoulders, smiling with tears coming down her face. I asked her if she had had it & she was running away, and she said, "Yup, that's it. I'm outta here." with her characteristic grin.

She then told me they had just taken her outside & the tears were because it was such an overwhelmingly emotional experience for her to finally get back to her beloved outdoors. And because she was hoping I would make it there in time to join them, but they took her out before I got there. I whooped it up with excitment that she'd gotten out finally, which made her laugh, and reminded her there were plenty more days I could go outside with her since I was betting they'd try to make this a regular thing for her. I then gave her a huge hug (after ensuring I was properly scrubbed/begowned/behatted/begloved/bemasked, of course) & let her sob on my shoulder, knowing it was soooo good for her to get it out. And it was *heaven* to be able to wrap my arms all the way around her instead of the usual, awkward, hospital-bed-hugs we've been enduring. Her mood lightened almost immediately after a little pep talk and they got down to business moving her back into her bed. The staff there are phenomenal, and the ladies moving her were wonderful, cracking jokes right along with Ty & I and giving each other a hard time. Ty would have it no other way, of course.

Just as they got her into her bed, Cookie showed up with a mouse hat on his head, and prepared to whisk her away for the Royal Bath & Dressing Change.

Our time together today was short, but very intense & very hopeful. She's an amazing lady, and will absolutely make it through the growth & struggles that are required to "get to the other side" of this. The fresh air today was a VERY good start. Have a great afternoon & get outside for a minute in her honor. ;-)

Thursday, 1PM

Good afternoon,

My usual morning visit with Tyler turned unusual today.

As you can see from the photo, we took a spin around the outside of the hospital. Departing the Burn Unit, we announced we were headed to Santa Cruz. Off we went. Down the sidewalks and zig-zagging through concrete structures (had to take her through a few twisties), under the trees, and pass the buses. Tyler used the opportunity to place a call to her folks and sister Cynthia. Their conversations and the 15-minute ride brightened her up a bunch. Morning wheelchair adventures will be a regular event for Tyler.

She also had x-rays taken of her pelvis. Now in the 11th week post surgery, the P.T. team, and Tyler, are choppin’ at the bit to start the process of weight bearing. We’ll know more tomorrow.

I left her settled in bed and starting to doze off. I reminded her a home cooked meal was arriving about 6:00PM and departed.

Tyler’s neighborhood is getting bigger.

Sue

So then, when can we go and bother her? I want to bother Tyler. Seriously, she needs some brotherly bothering. As in make her giggle at stupid jokes, tickle her toes when shen can't do sh#t about it, and change the TV channel to something she hates, like 'As our stomach churns' soap box operas.. just wonderin... Tell T we're rooting for her, eh?

Just went to Caring Bridge and read the post and saw the pic of Tyler outside the hospital for a spin around the block. Maybe they'd let us put an engine on that transport of hers.... hmmmm a ducati twin might do the trick. Go girl!!

WOOT WOOT!!! While unfortunately I don't have a picture to share, today a monumental and much anticipated event took place in Tyler's world. The blasted feeding tube is a thing of the past!! That's right, our girl is free and clear of yet another pesky tube...I feel like I'm repeating myself, but I'm just so excited for her I can hardly stand it! lol

Today has been a great day! Tyler's been chatty and alert and enjoyed chatting with her morning visitors. A Jamba Juice was part of her morning treat, and...for the second day in a row...we busted out of here and headed for the hills (OK, it was just outside of the doors, but whatever, it was good enough!). As Sue mentioned yesterday, the outside visits will become a regular morning thing and they're encouraging Ty to stay out of bed for as long as possible. Unfortunately, the chair isn't very comfortable, but tomorrow they're going to try adjusting pillows and such to get her more so. The weather Gods were cooperating too as it wasn't scorching hot, and was very pleasant in the shade.

Some of the dietary restrictions have been lifted as well, another welcome change :) Instead of following a low potassium diet, which excluded some of her favorite foods, she's now only limited to a low sodium diet. And since she's not a big salt eater anyways, she's not too worried about that! She's looking forward to enjoying some good eats again and is working really hard to keep her calorie count up so she doesn't risk having to have the tube again. So we'll keep the good stuff coming to entice her to eat under her own steam ;-)

That's pretty much the latest FABULOUS news in Ty's world. I wanted to share it with you ASAP as I know we all look forward to hearing the latest. This is definitely news to raise a glass to this weekend!

Cheers,

Tyler's Support Team
