So, if anyone has ridden Highway 37 between Meziadin Junction and where it meets the Alaskan Highway (near Watson Lake), how is that road to ride on a fully loaded FJR? How bad does it get if it's raining (or has rained recently)?
I rode that section, in the rain, on a fully loaded ST1100 in 1999. At that time there was about 110 miles of dirt road and it was not that difficult. The paved portion was fine (but narrow) and the dirt sections were a hard pan dirt with pea gravel on top. It should be even easier now, I think there are only 3 dirt sections totaling about 50 miles.
I rode south on the Cassiar from Watson Lake to Meziadin Junction back in 2007 on my '05 FJR, with a fully-loaded large MotoFizz seat bag, and didn't have any problems. There was a 1km section of deep gravel due to road construction near the northern end, but a slow, careful ride made it easily passable. The other gravel/chip-seal sections totaled about 50 miles as mcrider noted, and the FJR handled them well, even in the rain.

I stayed at a motel in Dease Lake that wasn't bad.

Ah, chip seal. I have seen that stuff do nasty things to a motorcycle tire!

Thanks tcfjr and Beemerdons (again).

I had to stop in southern Oregon for a new set of tires on my way back in 2007. I think the chip seal took 1,000 normal miles off my tires.

On the Peak to Peak ride from California up to Skagit, Washington for WFO4 one rider had a "chip" go into his tire like an arrowhead.

Piece of cake. Here's a shot of Alcan Rider, from advrider.com... LOL

"This was on Atigun Pass at 01:30 May 30. About 1/2 mile from the top on the south side, wind howling, snow blowing, 25°F. The KLR was able to make it to the top, where it was blowing harder and 23°. Ice under the snow made it impossible for the FJR to get any farther without knobbies.

It was so slick that it took both brakes to bring the bike to a stop, and both feet down as outriggers. So to descend, it was - engine off, transmission in 1st gear, front brake coordinating with letting clutch out for rear wheel braking. Had to do it for about two miles, until better traction was available near the bottom. Mud never looked so good as when it replaced the snow and ice!

Quite a few hours later, after the weather warmed up and the snow melted, it was just wet and sloppy over the top."

Mi Hermano Donaldo: Amigo, you do know that Atigun Pass is on the Dalton Highway, not the Cassiar that Joseph is riding.

Atigun Pass is just South of Pump Station House Number Four; I lived at Galbraith Camp, when I installed piping in No. Four.

MCML: Trust me, not that Krazey Kreston Kowboy Kid: I think he has been helping close Longbranch Saloon too much lately!

Atigun Pass is at 4,800 feet and is in the weather "wild" Brooks Range. Highest elevation I can remember that you will be encountering is Iskut at 3,100 feet; and on the Cassiar you are still under the weather influence of the Pacific Coast Range.

You very well may hit some rain, but don't let dcarver scare you about snow. You want worries, go riding with SkooterG!!!

I was very glad that I had a radiator guard mounted...

It is beautiful, though.

Trust me, Joseph WILL get lost, make a wrong turn, be headed up the Dalton, then end up in PrudHO bay! LOL, yeah, I knew it as Atigun.. I've been reading maps n stuff lately!
I guarantee nothing but sunshine and 70+ weather! Guaran-teeeed! Oh, and :****:

Tcfjr, a cox radiator guard was my very first farkle. So all's ready to go in that regard.

Beemerdons, I have ridden with Scooter (and, you and Richard that day, also - although Jane's presence may have tempered Scooter a tad) and survived so I am likely good to go based on that criteria.

Caver, I am insulted, sir!

A copy of Milepost now resides in my topbox.

Okay, so now all we need are riders to escort TWN back to Hyder and then press onward to ???????

If we do go north, I wonder if TWN would like to be carried a bit further north, too?

Is there a link to his Spot tracker?
bikerskier: I've not found a link to a Spot tracker for John Ryan run yet. Iggy and Skoot would probably know about this.

Was going to call SkooterG this evening and see how his ride with the Black Mountain Motorcycle Club of Carefree, AZ went.

Well we made it to Prince Rupert on yesterday's ferry (Jun 27) after a lovley diversion in Vancoucer Island.

We rode with NSRider and his wife for a while but they went to visit family in Comox.

It lools like we might meet up again as they are going to Fort Nelson and we might be delayed for a day as Diana's rear tire is starting to wear badly, there are a few bike shops around Terrance I'm calling this morning.

My rear tire is fine except for that minor flat spot, fronts are good to at least Anchorage.

Once we get the tire situation sorted we are heading for Hyder

Chris

I don't care who ya' are. Thats funny!

Ride safe both of you. It's gonna be fun watching your progress.

Been following your spot tracker, looks like you pretty much covered Vancouver Island. Hope you're having a grand time. Fred

Go you BugR...go!

Hey...and get the flat rear fixed...okay? It's dangerous to be riding a flat rear tire...I hear. ;)
