Let's remember that name. How about a new category of dealer service ratings on the board since this is such an issue? We could start with North Shore. :help:

Ive got one to add to the list as well, one that I highly recommend avoiding. ;)

Never had any dealings with North Shore in Commack but I can certainly name a few other Long Island dealerships that you want to drive by really fast.....

I don't remember seeing "The Tick" as an option on '06 models. All this tick talk is getting me nervous now. I guess I should have read more of these threads before I actually committed to THE WAIT.....

Already pondered. I don't have a special icon yet, but it will be stored in the FJR Member Map as a "Questionable Dealer" with a link to this thread. Imagine good dealers being green, questionable ones yellow, and shoddy ones red.

Perhaps somebody interested in the issue of dealers, but also even-handed, dealer-experienced, and willing to be fact-based wants to start a different discussion thread on dealers.

Maybe this is a candidate thread for the FAQ section where D&H Cycle is already listed and think qualifies as good. Sunnyside Motorcycle also another example of positive.

Anyone familiar with the Perverted Justice website? The sleezeballs are outed then given an opportunity to fess up and begin the conversion to a human being again. A dealer outed as a **** pile would/could have the opportunity to respond and right the wrongs. Now that would be a service to humanity I might support.

My warranty is up May 30th. I think it is in my best interest to get a Y.E.S. plan at this point.
I thought I heard of some tickers being fixed that were out of warranty... true or false? Anyone?
True.

So far, haven't really heard of any that have been out of warranty that haven't been fixed by Yamaha on their dime.
Burleson Yamaha in Burleson, TX would not fix my out of warranty ticker.

Yikes! Need more info there fjrchik. Was it eventually fixed by somebody else with no cost to you? Or did Burleson fix it and charge you?

Dealers don't pay for the fix, Yamaha corporate does. So was this a Burleson denial? Or a yammie corporate denial?

More info, please..........

Uh, I wouldn't if I were you...

It's one thing for an individual to post that Dealer X is a schmuck, but it's a whole different and libelous issue if an entity such as this board were to do it. But don't take my word for it, call your consigliere. ;)

I have a recently repaired ticker that was done at 18,300 miles and four days before being out of warranty.

There was never any suggestion that I would have to pay for the diagnostic valve check they did to confirm the real problem was the excessive exhaust valve guide wear.

I didn't pay a dime for the tick repair.

Take our advice - go to another dealer.

These guys are in a lot of trouble if that is the case....

Hence my non-affirmation of their status as trustworthy or not. I know enough that there is a question, there I put a comment of "questionable" and link to pertinent information for a consumer to form their own opinion. I don't think that's unjust in any way--which is a key distinction in the area of libel.

Point taken though as food for thought.

OK, well here's my story. I took my 03 to a brand new dealership in Burleson and used the verbal tactics as taught on here. They definitely agreed something was wrong. I talked quite often to the service manager who was very interested in fixing it. He found no bulletin on it so he called Yamaha. They were checking into it and he became very sluggish about calling me back with updates. Manager man said if anyone else has gotten theirs fixed and we can find out where, then we can get mine fixed. So I got on here and asked the question. I was told to do a search! Sorry but still pissed about that one. A search gave me no answers what so ever. Well anyways, I already had my money down on a new one and was gonna be selling this 03 very soon so I was really just doing a favor to the next owner. I persued it for almost 2 months, this started in October last year. The same day I went to them on that, I also ordered a pair of gloves. Guess who still hasn't gotten her gloves?!?! Anyways, it's obvious that Yamaha said no. Cause that's when the open dialogue stopped.

Here is an update of my situation so far. And please, don't take this as dealer bashing yet. I was a little reluctant to state the dealer name in my last post just for that reason.

Work related issues kept me from being able to just get the bike away from the dealer this morning. But I put a call to my salesman midmorning to explain to him that I wasn't getting any love from the service dept. I told him the situation about how they wanted to charge me for diagnostics and that I got the felling that they are not on my side when speaking to Yamaha. I ask him if he can have the general manager of the dealer give me a call ( he wasn't in at the time of my call) so I can speak to him about the way I am being treated. This was at 10:30 this morning. So far, no call. I spoke to the service manager at about 3:30 this afternoon, he told me they just started taking things apart and he should know something by lunchtime tomorrow. So I'm leaving it at that.

Now I think that no matter what the outcome is, if he still wants me to pay for anything Yamaha is going to hear from me again.

If the noise is not gone, I will tell him to put the bike back together. I will pay him the two hours labor, then I will call yamaha and have them give me the authorization # for the repair and find another dealer to do the work.

If by some miricle the adjustment fixes the problem, I will pay him, still call Yamaha and voice my feelings about having to pay for a service that is well before the reccomended miles.

I will also make it a point to speak with the owner of the dealership and let him know that because of the poor treatment and handeling of my situation, my next purchase will not be from any of his three dealerships.

I really hope it doesn't come to that. I don't like to bad mouth people. But I also don't like to be treated like an ***** either.

When I managed an independent Tire and repair center. ( for ten years) I always treated my customers with respect and fought on their side when it came to warranty issues with manufacturers. Even eating a tire from time to time just to make someone happy and keep repeat buisiness. Silly me, just wanting to be treated as I would someone else.

Sorry for carrying on, But I've been worked up about this all day. Time for me to pop a Xanex and chill.

Tomorrows another day and maybe all will be well.

Tim

Is this what you were talking about?

sorry for being new and unaware.
You are forgiven. ;)

let me rephrase: is there anyone in northern texas that has had a good experience with a dealer, not had any warranty left, and just walked in and asked them to fix the tick under this new announcement? which dealer?
No "new annoucement". Gradual information over time. Hopefully a Texas member will be able to help you out here.

if someone else has already paved the way, i would like to know. or if anyone can point me to the appropriate past thread, I'd appreciate the assistance.
A search using the word "tick", or "ticking", returns a plethora of threads with useful info, among them:

Tick solved? thread

Ticking soundbyte thread

Apratt's most excellent advice on how to get a ticker fixed

Good luck!

Any more stupid questions, give me a ring!
Or maybe this one:

sorry for being new and unaware.

Welcome to the forum!

It's okay to be new, but there's no need to be unaware; the Search button is your friend here! :D

Click the Search button (top right of every page, on the menu bar between the "Help" andf "Members" buttons), enter "Ticking" in the keyword search field, and watch a couple dozen threads be returned!

Again, WELCOME to FJRForum, fjrchik! B)
Hardly a reason for anger in my opinion. Normally, if I have a specific question to ask I'll start a new thread. YMMV. I usually get plenty of answers, some even helpful. ;)

So, did you sell the '03 tick and all? Disclosure or no?

Wow Toe!

You should either be a private investigator or an attorney....Amazing to me how you could find those quotes with everything that goes on in here...

I Know how the "Tickers" feel as GM/Chevy has the same issue with there 2000-03 mod 5.3L others? engine. (Lifters sticking?) Had it into my GM dealer 4 times, They have a bullitin on it. But has to be diagnosed and written in a specified way for GM To cover. They have actually replaced entire engines only to have it start again later. The new fix is just to offer an extended warranty 10/100 on the engine as they say it causes no harm. After the 4th time I gave up on the moron writting it up in the specific way to get the extended warranty and just drive the truck.

I Agree with Warchild take it someplace else which at this point I know is to late for you. I see the valve adj is due at 26,000 but I must have overlooked your current milage if you posted it. Are you close to 26?

+ 1 on the rate a dealer network with a side for local/ internet shops as a pinned thread. I saw on a recent thread of a scammer who was back on ebay after behaving POORLY on the other board (not sure of all the details).

As far as the liability issue, Give it a disclaimer "This poll/whatever reflects the collected OPINIONS of registed users and is not endorsed by this administration"

I own my business ( www.jandkfencing.com) and get half of my work by word of mouth. The yellow pages only goes so far and costs a hellofalot more. On some levels I try to give better service (over our already outstanding service) to a referal because I don't want my past customer having his friend telling him he's a jerk for refering me.

+1 I was curious as to what had transpired, as I'm often quick to torque folks nuts and will suggest using the search for what are to me common questions. Glad (and somewhat surprised) I'm not in there. Good job tracking there TC.

But I put a call to my salesman midmorning to explain to him that I wasn't getting any love from the service dept.

Well, that was a tactical error, IMO.

All your phone call did was tip off the Service Manager that you're an unhappy camper. Your bike was most likely still sitting in a corner collecting dust until your salesman went running to the Service Manager as soon as you hung up. The Service Manager then immediately has the bike torn apart so that you are "commited" to paying him some amount of money no matter what the outcome is.

I hope I'm wrong. But from your description of events thus far.... I'd be reaching for the KY jelly, 'cuz I fear you're about to have the Big One slipped deep inside.

If you couldn't be at the dealership at first light, you should have just showed up after work completely unannounced, with helmet in hand. You could have collected your still-untouched bike, and got out of there unscathed.

Well, keep us informed, please. Who knows, maybe things will turn out okay. Maybe.

fjrchik - After Toecutter's post (Nice job Toe ;) ), I went back and found what I am assuming is the thread that "pissed you off".

Previous Tick Thread

Well, I guess it was me that pissed you off. I am sorry if I did - I am most definitely a smartass, but I try to be a helpful smartass, which I think I accomplished in the above referenced thread. No offense, but I am not sure why you got pissed off in the first place. Also, after re-reading that thread, my first response was specifically to the thread starter's post - mastercaster. I thought you were a little over-sensitive there in your 2nd post. Helpful hint: f you want specific info, it is best to ask for it specifically, not generally.

At any rate, water under the bridge, and my apologies for any perceived slight.

And as I posted previously, if you have any more stupid questions, just give me a holler!

:D

Just kidding!
