Hey, I got my notification card from Barbers in the mail yesterday regarding tickets for the April race. It will be here before you know it. Any Alabamer boyz want to consider putting together a meeting spot on the hill under the trees? Anybody got a FJR banner?, a large tarp to spread out and mark a FJR zone? I'll volunteer to pee all around the boundary to mark our territory

I think there may be at least 3-4 Mississippi boyz in my total group. I'll do what ever you guys want/need to assist. Maybe a group afternoon ride sometime during the 3 day event?

welp, not a lot of activity on this thread. Race is 1 month away. I have ordered my ticket for the 3 day event and opted for the paddock pass.

So post up Bama beotchs, who is going?........who is not?, who can/will reserve the fjr groopies a spot on the hill preferably in the shade?

Subject to weather, I plan to leave MS early Friday morning 4/20 and return home Monday 4/23. Will have my mini cooler for a cold refreshment drink and my camp chair.

So, any volunteers for staking out a FJR only zone????????someone w/ a large tarp and maybe some crime scene tape?????????huh???????

Anybody w/banner connections through employment??? a nice large hillside FJRForum.com banner would look good on speedvision

I get in Friday and am going to the race and museum Saturday. No banner connections though. :yahoo:

Geez, I nearly forgot about this thing. I've got the weekend pass & paddock pass. Crime is, I live right up the road and have never even been here. I need to go and scout the place out.

What do you need me to do, Bruce?

This would be worth a ride up from fla. I'll check on available time off tomorrow.

Any suggestions for hotels in the area?

First time I've seen this thread... I'm going. This will be my 4th year in a row. I'll be doing an Iron Butt ride all the way from Hoover, AL.

woohoo!! got a little activity on this thread now.

Southernfjr, I have had a few pm's w/Scab concerning the race weekend. I only briefly met you last year in the parkinglot of the museum when I rode in last year and unfortunately did not have the opportunity to see you again after that brief encounter. Last year was my first time to attend the event and it was a learning experience for me. Scab is volunteering to try to get to the track early Friday morning and stake out a FJR section with a ground tarp and some chairs, on the hillside along the tree line (the area where you directed me to last year).

My plan at present is to leave Friday morning from MS and will cage it over if the weather is poor, and take the bike if weather is good. May bring a couple local MS friends w/me this year. If I come in the cage, I'll have a few x-tra chairs and some large coolers for event beverages. If I come on the bike, all I will have is my chair and a small 6 pk cooler.

Since you have been several times and most supreme knowledgable, any suggestions in setting up a spot are surely welcome. I know it is general admission, first come first serve when it comes to securing a spot to view. What I noticed last year was that people left there ground tarps and chairs in place over the entire weekend and people seemed to respect and leave your area pretty much alone.

While I cannot be there early Friday, I can get to the track early Saturday and Sunday as my mother lives only a few miles from the track. Hopefully that way I can kinda watch over and secure the area until a few other groupies show up.

This would be worth a ride up from fla. I'll check on available time off tomorrow.Any suggestions for hotels in the area?
Pickax...............there are a couple hotels located in Moody AL which are real convenient to the track. Unfortunately, I do not have the names or numbers of the hotels. I would suggest you try googling the chamber of commerce for moody al and give them a call. I am sure they can put you in quick touch with local hotels in the area.

I'm going to try to make it over to Barber as well. As the date approaches I will have a better idea and will update you guys. Look forward to seeing everyone again!! :)

I have a map of the "intended" plot of land we plan to stake claim to. I don't have a definative visual clue as yet, but will post up when I do.

And cool, Jason is coming too! (Ya know you can stay at the homestead ifin ya want)

A few of us Kansas fellers are going to be there. We should be there Thursday night through Sunday. We'll look for the group.

kewl..............keep us posted...........like the earlier post to pickax, ck w/local Leeds, Al and Moody Al Chamber of Commerce for names and #'s for local hotels/motels. The Leeds and Moody area is generally safe and convenient to the race track.

For those more adventour oriented riders google up 29 dreams, it is a local and convenient motorcycle specific campground. I have never stayed there but have heard nothing but good things about the place. I have visited it a few times.

Another relatively convenient, generally safe location, is the Riverside/Pell City area. I mention these places because they are outside the congestion area of and around Birmingham. Those who are from out of town should be able to find accomodations at this point but I don't think I would wait much longer, after all you can usually cancel w/o cost up to 48 hours in advance. It's a dang good thing the AMA @ Barbers is the weekend of 4/20-4/22 and not the following weekend...........as that is the NASCAR Talladega race weekend and, trust me, room rates as well as traffic will triple...........at this point I doubt there are any local/convenient rooms still available for the Talladega race weekend.

Here's a pic from about the middle of the ellipse you drew scab... looking right, toward the museum.

A couple of us Okie's will be there (by Friday) again this year. SouthernFJR, I met you at 29Dreams a couple years ago, hope to run into you again. The spot selection to watch the race, is tops..been there every year for the superbike races. Oh BTW, "29Dreams" :clapping: is the must go to, for breakfast.

I checked the motels in the Moody/Leeds area and all are full. Best I could find was a La Quinta in Birmingham.

Camping at the track looks like the best option. Tickets etc. are available online until the 19th, so I will wait for a weather outlook

for the weekend.

We reserved a couple of rooms at the Comfort Inn on Montevallo Rd there in Birmingham. I've never been there, but I was told its right by the track. Anyone else staying there by chance?
