Another reason lane splitting needs to be legalized everywhere

In Arizona, lane splitting is specifically illegal. I'm paraphrasing, but "at no time shall two vehicles share a single lane." This ***** cager took enforcing that law just a little too far. My take is that if lane splitting were legal and drivers are aware of it, he wouldn't have had anything even slightly resembling cause. It looks like he'd still be pissed off and find another excuse, but at least there wouldn't be anything remotely close to legitimate.

"A little too far?" "Cause?" "Close to legitimate?" You are so far off base here, the only one farther is the driver/assailant in the video. There's NO excuse for anything this moron did, and he's lucky the rider had way more self control than I do. Nobody gets to "enforce the law" like this.

I'm not saying I agree with him or that I feel he was right in any way. Just that in his mind he justified it as such. He's a complete moron, raging over nothing. My point is that if it truly was the rider breaking the law that triggered his rage, perhaps that law should be changed.

The cager was drunk, nothing helps with that.

I do agree with your argument, under normal conditions, lane filtering, splitting,etc.. would help. Once people grab ahold of the concept of how this would benefit them, the cager. The thing is, American attitudes and European attitudes vastly differ. Americans are entrenched in their beliefs on how traffic should work. So, Federal laws permitting filtering is a long, long ways away.

Bottomline: The police have a report from a third party of an traffic infraction by the rider; that may not be even citable with a traffic ticket. They also have video evidence of the car driver committing two assaults (rider and pillion). Those are definately chargeable as at least misdemeanors and perhaps felonies (although I doubt the latter will happen). The driver also states his intent to continue the assault and admits to the previous assault. Perhaps chargeable as battery. Add to that the possibility that he was under the influence and I'd say it was a bad day for the driver. It appears to me that he begins to realize that he is in deep ***** towards the end of the video.

I have a problem with the "squids" here in Newer Mexico. They ride like jackasses, cutting lanes and thinking they are invincible.. I shouldn't have to worry about running one of them over just because they think they are Marc Marcus on city streets. They die in accidents, because they ask for it. Lane splitting won't change these dicks riding habits. It's not always the cagers fault. We have no idea by looking at the video what the bike was doing to piss off the old guy. But I'm pretty sure he didn't just pull up behind them wanting to fight someone. Maybe just maybe, the punk deserved it, Just sayin.

Sorry, but nothing calls for getting out of a car and coming over to the passenger and rider, and the punching them. Road rage, let it go. The guy got in front of you, is it that big of a deal???

The rider in that video is a model of calmness and restraint. I find it inconceivable that he "deserved it" in any way.

The car driver is a violent drunk with anger issues. He had his *** handed to him without even being hit. Even if he was passed in a way he didn't like ... so what? Happens to me most days. If someone wants past. let them go. Why do some drivers find this concept so difficult?

My thoughts exactly. I've seen drivers take violent exception to riders passing in no-passing zones when, in fact, the pass did nothing to impede the driver or endanger him or his passengers in any way. It makes no sense. In my world, it's better for them to be in front of me than behind me anyway.

If you concede that it's okay for citizens to pull over and assault anyone who "deserves" it rather than leaving justice to the judicial system, then the question comes up: Who gets to decide if someone "deserves" it? The ignorant drunk in the video? We saw how well that played out.

So anyone who believe it's okay for some drivers to assault other drivers who in their opinion "deserve" it, then when someone assaults you because the assaulter believes you deserved it, then that has to be okay with you. (But oh wait! You say you didn't deserve it? But you gave up that decision to the assaulter.)

DeSudet, thanks for opening up this thread and taking some black eyes as a result (no irony intended!

). I don't think this has anything to do with lane splitting: I think it's about an alcoholic with anger issues finding any reason to assault someone. I hope they throw his a** in jail for a long time!

LMAO -- dude is going to punch someone in the head that is wearing a helmet..... best part right there showing the guy was not in his right mind.

That is what I'm laughing at....

I was thinking the same thing.

One time I had the guy in front of me, while we were stopped at a light, get out and confront me about my lights, which annoyed him. I calmly told him that there was nothing I could do about. While we talked I left my helmet, gloves, and other gear on. I was thinking that no matter how this conversation ended, I was not getting hurt.

Nothing more I can add to this one that's in any way useful. Pissed me off just watching the video. I could not have shown the same restraint as the motorcyclist toward the moron.

I know I tend to pass curvy road blocking Prius owners who act like deputized citizens.

However, I really try to run from confrontations. Someone I knew from High School had a confrontation with another driver. Ended up getting stabbed to death right there at the stoplight in front of everybody. He tried to drive himself a couple blocks to the Hospital. Died in surgery.

RIP Aaron.

The young couple on the bike in the video should be thankful the crazy man didn't use his car as a weapon.

This whole world needs to relax....
