This occurred yesterday in Oregon City. The Trooper was responding lights/siren to a crash on I-205. He was just nearing the on-ramp when dummy turned left in front of the motorcycle. The Trooper is fine. He launched over the truck's canopy, but somehow landed safely. Thought he had broken his arm intially, but just a severe sprain/bruising to go along with a bit of scraped gear. Very lucky. I do not know what speed the Troop was travelling at prior to impact, but I heard he anticipated the red truck turning and was slowing just in case it happened. It did.

By the way, this used to be a 2004 BMW...

Perhaps I am from the stone age, but it has been buggin me- please define ATGATT for me. Acronyms that I can't understand bug me and always have. Thanks

What kind of gear was he wearing? The motor cops around here have boots, open-face helmets, gloves, and a standard uniform (short sleeve in warm weather), with some extra wool in the knees & butt area. Not exactly what I would consider safety gear. The cruiser crowd is very similarly 'protected'.

I bet the driver claimes he didn't see the motor officer.

Strangely enough, I hope the driver gets a $50 fine and let go. If we get the cops mad enough, they'll eventually become agents for change.

 
Pleased the motor officer got through with minor injuries. Can't believe he wasn't seen with lights, etc. I am getting paranoid with all these stories.......

What gear WAS he wearing? Any idea?

And +1 to cops as agents of change (as long as I agree with it :) )

Normally this time of year, he'd be wearing gear similar to what you described, but yesterday just happened to be one of the first "cold" days heading into fall. The crash happened early enough that the Trooper had his Aerostitch on. We've had 2-piece Roadcrafters since '97. I don't know whether he had a full-face or 3/4 shell helmet on - we have both and it's the riders choice. I'm guessing he had the full face on because rain was threatening yesterday morning.

This happens on both my computers sometimes also. You hit Reply, and it quotes everything like you hit the Quote button ! :blink:

That's how it's supposed to work. The quote button normally has a little + sign in front of it. If you click it, the + turns to a - , then hit reply, and it won't quote. Not sure why one would use that feature though. If I want to reply without quoting, I just go to the bottom of the page and hit "Add Reply" which will bring up a empty reply screen.
It's also easy to trim the quoted text to take up less space, and use the "Snip" tool to cut out all non-pertinent text. But that's advanced stuff, small steps, small steps....

Follow? Now maybe you can return the favor and teach me how to ride a motorcycle.

 
Funny thing, in my town the motor cops don't get ATGATT- unless you mean guns and handcuffs. They do have nifty arm patches with a wheel w/wing embroidered on the short sleeve shirts though. And usually a x-crossed reflective belt, but nothing that would protect them from serious road rash. They wear them little half helmet lids too. Guess they're not worried too much about crashing. Ya think they would with all the sparks they make going around tight corners.

 
Around here, they even make our cycle officers wear those faggoty-*** polyester equestrian riding pants. (Do these make my hips look big? Uh, yeah, duh.) Yeah, let's skid in polyester.

These are Rhode Island State Police. I took the pic recently at a patriot guard riders event. Looks like they may have a little road rash going on if they ever went down....short sleeve shirts?

It's been 8+ years or so ago, but the motorcycle division of the Jackson Police Dept. use to have the little half beanee white helmets, such as in the pic above. They were providing traffic control and security at a college football game at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Jeff-----(a member of the motorcycle squad--who also happens to be the local MSF instructor) and one of his squad members were working this detail. (Jeff is still with this squad and now head of the JPD motorcycle unit) They were riding together at very low speed, Jeff guesses maybe 15-20 mph. Cager makes a turn right in front of Jeff's squad member--Jeff was only a short distance--stair step behind him. The motorcycle hit the car and the driver flipped over the hood of the car. Jeff was able to stop, no contact w/the car. Got off his bike, he thought is squad member was about to jump up from behind the car and give the lady all kinds of hell. When Jeff got around to the other side of the car, his buddy was still on the pavement--not responding--pronounced dead at the scene.

I say this because who in their right mind would have ever guessed such a slow speed crash could result in death. The conclusion was a blow to the lower part of the back exposed portion of the police officers head. One can deduce that was the exception and not the rule--and probably be right in that assumption. However, right after this incident all motorcycle squad members now wear 3/4 or full face helmets here in Jackson, MS.
