I have a Zumo 450 and a 2 Gig SD card that I intended to load with MP3s. Initially, while using the Zumo attached to the computer, I could load about 700-800 MB onto the SD (about 115 songs) and then I would get an error message. (0x80070055 or something like that) WTF? The SD card is 2 Gigs!

So, I tried to use a card reader with the SD card. I thought that maybe there was something in the Zumo that was preventing this from happening. No. Same exact story. 700-800 MBs and the error message returns. I thought maybe my SD card was the problem, so I stole the other 2 Gig card from the digital camera. Same ole, same ole.

After searching the enemanet for answers, this is what I found:

This is a Windows Vista problem. No known fix or update that I found. However, someone did come up with a solution that works. Here's how it goes:

1. Make TWO new folders on your desktop. (A, B, or whatever you choose to call them)

2. Copy all your MP3 files into folder "A."

3. Place folder "A" into folder "B."

4. Copy folder "B" and "paste" to SD card. Poof, done.

Now, some of you technically gifted persons prolly already knew this, so this is for those who are technically challenged like myself.

There may be some additional solutions also. Post 'em up if you got 'em.

Just thought some may have run into this problem. As I understand it, this Vista problem occurs with SD cards and some jump drives and is not limited to MP3s.

Geez, I love Mac computers.

Looks like Microsoft may already have a fix for it. See if this will correct it: CLICKY

Also, make sure you have a genuine card. There is lots of documentation about bogus cards floating around, mainly on eBay. They look identical to the real thing, but are not the correct, stated capacity. Search on fake or counterfeit memory cards.

Already? I just bought the computer!

No, really, I tried that. It came back with a message that said my computer was not applicable, or something like that.

Scab, Sit back, relax and wait for Service Pack 1! It's due out early next year....

Oh yeah and stop buying all your stuff off the black market!! :angry2:

You could also try this: CLICKY Do make note that formatting will wipe everything you have on the drive. If you need to recover data after formatting you'll have to call in a data-recovery expert, such as myself

I'm cool now. It may be a barbarian way to do it, but I got the 300+ songs I wanted on there. Besides, it's all your fault, jwilly. I didn't even have this many songs before!

LD, I'm assuming by that description that the formatting Vista does may/may not always work?

As an additional note, there is a limit to the number of files that can occupy the root directory of a drive, regardless of the free space. I don't know the number off the top of my head, maybe 512 entries, but the root directory cannot be expanded as subdirectories can.

That wouldn't be a Vista-specific problem, though, it would have happened under XP.

Yes, at least from what I'm reading at the Panasonic site. "This software formats SD Memory Card and SDHC Memory Card(SD/SDHC Memory Card) using a formatting program that complies with the SD Memory Card specification SD formatting provides quick and easy access to the SD Memory Card. Generally, SD/SDHC Memory Card file systems formatted with generic operating system formatting software do not comply with the SD Memory Card specification."

This would look to me like the OS company (Microsoft in this case) is taking some liberties with how they do the format, and not sticking to the standard. Wouldn't be the first time. Remember when the Java engine used to be part of Internet Exploder, then Sun found out they (MS) had made some changes to the one they were bundling in Windows? A lawsuit forced them to stop using it, now we all get popup notices in the tray reminding us when we can download a newer Java engine directly from Sun.

Slightly un-related but related, every time you install a new Java engine (after being reminded) it leaves all the previous versions behind, to the tune of about 110mb each version. If you're low on drive space go in and uninstall all the old versions. Current version right now is v6 Update 3.

I'd be interested to know if this Panasonic formatting program helps anybody. PM me if you have success with it. I'd test it myself but I only have a 1gb SD drive currently.
