Birdman2010, give it a month. Soon, you'll be riding around punching that turn signal button, out of habit, for no reason. Just like the rest of us. Problem solved.

I've got a buddy who rides a ZRX that tells me he hits his button every mile or so to be sure and that's what I should do. I find it interesting that he thinks hitting that button a few hundred times a day when the signals are not on is more efficient than having a self-cancelling system

Then there are Goldwing riders I know who found the wire to clip to disable the self-cancelling signals because the 'wing turns them off before they're ready. It seems they don't like having to turn them on twice as if that's harder than turning them on once and turning them off once.

I'm with you Birdman2010. Yamaha has everything on the bike they'd need to turn them off after a set period of time and distance. Yet, Yamaha's not the only bike to leave them off some of their high-end bikes. For some reason, it seems all the manufacturers have decided we don't want them on anything but Goldwings and other big touring bikes.

As far as aftermarket cancelers, on April 1 this year, I emailed KisanTech the following:

I’m just trying to verify that the Signal Minder will work on my 2013 Yamaha FJR1300 and that the SM-3 is the proper unit.
The chart shows the SM-3, but the detail page for the SM-3 says “Most Hondas & Kawasaki, Suzuki models. With 3-pin (|||) plug.
And received the following reply:

Yes, SM-3 is the correct signalMinder for your 2013 FJR.

Yet, people here assure me the plugs are different on the Gen II and Gen III. So I dunno. Could I get you to buy one and let me know for sure?

I'm not sure the Kisan will work on a GenIII... I don't think we have the traditional flasher...... needs further investigation (i.e., where/what is the flasher on a GenIII). I just haven't got there yet, have the STS unit awaiting install when I get time.

Tim gratiously gave me the multi-way connectors.... I have to pull the left fairing off to see if those connectors work..... prolly ain't gonna happen until November........

Correct. Flashing done by the Meter Unit.

 
Here is a quote from the Safer Turn website that DesignFlaw06 mention:

Safety: Studies show that inappropriate usage of turn signals is one of the main reasons for accidents in the motorcycle world. Solution that is taken for granted in cars will now also improve safety on bikes.

So, it is not just me who has problems with turn signals that do not cancel automatically. The Safer Turn solution is expensive at $167 U.S. dollars plus $11 shipping plus you have to install it. I simply wish that Yamaha would have included the self-cancelling turn signals on the bike.

Finally got around to installing the STS. I bought the stuff need to make it plug and play setup. I mounted the actual box where the factory heated grip controller would normally go. Install was pretty straight forward. It was only 12 F out when I went out for a test drive. So far works really well.
