That is awesome - nice work. Is there something that seals the the storage area under the tank from the outside world? Just wondering if rain or other external environment substances can work their way into the storage area under the once sealing, now removed rear seat and muck things up.

Oh yes - any way the aluminum can be painted or powder coated?

thx

Scott

To answer your first question, Post #8 in this thread leads over to the Design Thread (short answer: <Link> Be sure to scroll down that page a little for even more interesting photos) It should be relatively easy to button that area up and there are several inexpensive ways to do it.

To answer your second question, I'll point you to the original post. Silver powder coat is included in the price. Ordering without surface finish is an option that lowers the cost.

Okay, I'm in for #3.

Silver powder coat would be nice, all the fittings as well. I will finalize my decision on the filler options soon, I got an errand to run before things start to close (Sunday afternoon and all) and I'll look at the options when I get back...

Please do put me down for a tank. No rush, just take your time and work out all the bugs with the other tanks first!

Hello Kitty, would you please advise what cell covers you are looking to have made? I would perhaps be interested in getting one also if available. Pictures would be great, but is it just to cover the tank, or does it have any additional features? Thanks!

I feel a little bit like a bus driver. I can see someone running to catch the bus. Do I stop to let them on?

Everyone benefits each time we reach the next price zone. Right now we are at four. If I place an order for 5, everyone receives a 5% price break.

The original March 26th deadline was a little bit arbitrary. I wanted to have this group buy before my riding season began. I can't place the order until tomorrow (Monday morning). Five orders is a $44 savings for everyone.

Everyone seems satisfied with the JAZ options, so none of these tanks will have the Pro-Werks bung option. The CAD model is updated. I will submit that, along with the order tomorrow morning. I'll edit this group buy to read 'Closed' then.

g'night everyone

O.K. and that ends this group buy!

The participants should each PM 01VFR and thank him for their 44 dollar savings.

If you regret having missed out on this group buy, you might want to PM 01VFR an ask if he wants to part with one of those tanks. ;)

Thanks

-Joe

Ok...my second has been spoken for.

Alright! :yahoo:

I picked up the tanks from the fab shop today. Here's the line-up:

IMG_0061.JPG

The tank in the upper left is S/N 2 (my tank).

The fab shop started 6 sets of parts. The first of each piece was the one they used to sort out any process errors. They ended up with nearly enough parts to weld together a sixth tank. So, what I decided to do is to make a different top piece and have one tank welded together with the 45° neck and Pro-Werks cap bung welded on. That tank is not show in the photo. When I get that one finished, I'll probably post a photo over in the Cell Design thread <Link>

Also, there may be a tank for sale in the classifieds. I haven't decided yet if it will be S/N 2 (a prototype) or the production version with the Pro-Werks cap.

It's been some time now I've been using my TAT - it simply works great and I LOVE it. Thanks again, Joe.

ok so where did you end up with a model for generation1 owners? Sorry if I missed it.
I still have an unsold GenII tank from this group buy. That means I haven't made it to the the break even point. That was a little discouraging.

Somehow, 01VFR was unlucky enough to discover that the fab shop I was using used a little too much heat when they tack welded the baffles. That was more discouraging.

Then, we discovered there is quite a bit of variation from one rear subframe to the next. Each tank needs to be fit to the bike it will be mounted to. That was discouraging.

Ultimately, all of these little hurdles were overcome and everyone was happy, but I didn't see any posts from happy group buy participants. I was told that everything was great, but those positive experiences weren't shared with the forum.

So, long story short (is it too late for that?)...

I needed a break from all things having to do with auxiliary tanks.

I got some very positive feedback after 01VFR ran the IBR 5000. Just enough to sort of slap me outta my funk. I'll probably take another look at GenI auxiliary tanks when the weather starts getting cold.

Selling the left over tank <Link> would help a lot to get me back in the groove.

Will it fit a DL650?

(sorry Joe, it's Friday, I couldn't resist kicking a guy when he's down)

I don't know why that last tank hasn't sold - I'm really happy with s/n 1 - it's become almost permanently installed.

You must've missed this.

Ditto. I've got 3 SS1K's, a BBG, and the Utah 1088 on it. Only problem was a clogged vent (cheap-assed filter on the vent line, not the TAT's fault). I need to mount it up again for the LOE1K next month, and take some pix of the nifty cover I had made for it.

Any pictures of your cell with the cover on it?
I've been slacking.. Paid the guy to do the work, then took the tank back.. and have been using it ever since... I'm so used to having the aux tank on - I hate to give it up even for a week.

So is everyone who has one of these cells riding with their seats in the "high" position?
Yep...as far as I know. The corbin I had could have been modified to fit in the lower position but it would not have come out without removing the tank first.
