The police officer said that he had skidded around 44-50 I can't remember exactly. He said that his rpms where at 6 grand and he down shifted the bike from 4 gear which all doesn't make sense given the street he was on. The car poked it's front end around a van to see if it was clear and says that he never saw carl. Yeah. Were going to have to talk with a lawyer though.Thanks again. Best of luck to Carl. As for the cops statement of facts mentioned above points to someone who does not like motorcycles. Fourth gear at 6k rpm you would be going around 60mph best guess, I say that cop needs a math lesson and slid no more than 50 feet... :confusedsmiley:

On a GENII 6K RPM In SECOND gear is 60MPH, In 4th gear you are somewhere close to triple digits +or-. I used the 1K per 10MPH in 2nd as a gauge for downshifting when riding spirited. It is almost dead on. 1 to 1

This officer seems to be talking out the side of his mouth. Unusual too, I have high regard for that profession in general

Carl & Jonnie ARE the warmest, kindest people I've met out there. My gf moved out to that area and we had dinner with C&J when I rode out there the beginning of July. It was like talking with old friends during dinner. (I think my food got a little cold).

That FJR was rough, but he was (and should be) very proud of bringing it back to the roads. Just amazing, way beyond my skills.

Spoke with Carl and Jonnie for a few minutes today. Jonnie seemed stressed dealing with insurance companies and all the logistics, but still managed to put a friendly face on everything. Big smiles Jonnie, it will get better.

Carl sounded better than I expected. He was very coherent and in good spirits even complained about not being able to see the shape of his FJR. Keep your head up Carl, you will be healed up soon and back to putting the FJR on the road once again.

I spoke with Carl this morning and he is doing his best to put on a happy face, but is drugged and in pain. Probably don't want to get too many calls in there with too much advice, in spite of all of our best intentions. Best to wait a few more days, in my view.

He has medical insurance coverage but I don't know what deductibles are part of it. The bike was totalled and is not covered with any collison insurance. They are great folks of very modest means so this will hurt their budget in many ways.

Jonnie was going to call me later and update me on the injuries.

Still keeping you two in our prayers! Just a little something I was thinking...If the bike was down, or going down at the point of impact, it surely wouldn't be unusual for the tach to read 6k. If the rear tire is off the ground, it would spin up freely with the slightest throttle twist. I am assuming the impact stopped the tach instantly??? Just something to think about to keep the cop from making the judge think Carl was going faster than he was. Just sayin'
