Pants: Check your bank card or ATM card to ensure that it has Interac or Interlink or Plus logos on the back. If so, it will work anywhere in the USA or Canada and many other places in the world. ATM's displaying those logos are everywhere in Canada. Just withdraw small amounts of Canadian cash as required as George suggest above. Put everything else on your credit card as the CC company will be less expensive on exchange than your bank has quoted, and you won't have left-over Canadian cash at the end of your stay.

Heck I'd just bring US $ in to Canada, it is accepted anywhere and most business give you a rounded off rate. I'd only use the US $ in emergency situations. Use a VISA card for everything provided there are no foreign transaction fees - check with your Visa card holder.

And if you choose to get Canadian $, like FastJoyRide suggested, don't bring it back the the US for unlike the US $ in Canada, the Canadian $ is not accepted by business in the US. It has been that way since I started skiing in Whistler in the early 1980's.

You will love Canada - everybody is much nicer and helpful than in the US. For instanced a couple of years ago I was in Canada trying to buy gas and the damn card would not work despite repeated swiping. The clerk came out and showed silly Fontanaman how to use a chip reader - you don't swipe it he explained, leave it in. Hum.... I can do that. That was so nice of him to help the stupid American. And the kindness goes on and on. Canada is awesome.

Good advice! I've been dinged with this in the past. Our current card is transaction fee free. My daughter is a world traveler and always carried a Schwab credit card as they are transaction fee free. That's all she used it for. When BofA bought Merrill Lynch all of our BofA credit cards became foriegn transaction fee free since we were Merrill customers. It definitely pays to check ahead of time so you don't get surprised!

Thanks for the pitch Tyler - and ride safe (who else do you know Stephan, who would take time to try to encourage a first timer to register, when she should be packing for her big trip this week?)

I remember being very anxious before signing up for our first FJR rally - will the people be cliquish? snobby? unfriendly? - option D - none of the above! FJR'ers are like everyone - some ride fast, some slow, some are very skilled, some very aware of their limited experience and skillsets, etc. But we have the bond of this amazing freedom machine which we own and ride. That said, we are an inclusive group and there will be BMW's, a Guzzi, Wings and some Harleys in attendance too - no brand snobbery with this crew.

And that lady Stephan, Tyler, and her sister by another mother Barb, are two of the most important reasons you should register! You will not meet nicer people anywhere you go. Heck I think 1/2 of the people coming to CFR are coming to see them - not beautiful BC!

Oh I've been packing! Have to fly down to SoCal tomorrow to attend my niece's high school graduation, fly home on Friday, last minute preparations, load up, and then blast off on Saturday morning... Stephan, your wife will be welcomed with open arms by Barb and I, the Estrogen Welcome Committee... and maybe you too... if you behave...

Cheap camping.

If any of you are camping and want a near-zero services place to stay in North Okanagan, you're welcome to your choice of forest/weeds/shop floor at my place. Same discount rate I charge the deer and bears. On the chance that any such campers might be house trained, there are a few indoor services such as an assortment of duct and vinyl repair tapes, as well as a shop toilet and laundry sink. I'm 7km from the pavement on a dirt road that's currently light washboard with scattered cow pies and horse apples. It was good for about 40 to 70 kmph today. Only had to honk cows out of my way once and that was at my driveway entrance. About a half hour from Vernon. PM if you're excited about this amazing offer.

Camping or not, if you're in my area (3 hrs west of Nakusp) consider these stops - Dreamcycle Museum (and Sprockets Cafe), Deep Creek Tool Museum, and Pillar Lake Hoodoo. You can comfortably do all three in the same day. All worth visiting and reached via twisty roads with great scenery.
