I certainly had a good time. It could have been better if more of the usual posse had attended, but the cream of the crop attended and I represeted the dredgelings as usual. Grumpy has hope that someday I may become an actual member of civilized society.
The wet roads put a damper on slamming the corners hard, but it also provided a level of pucker entertainment unmatched in average conditions. There's truly nothing like the combination of cool temps, freshly wet pavement and hard compound tires to raise your piloting skills.
Negotiating corners with speed, required a nice blend of feathering the clutch while applying power and rear brake to avoid any drive train slap or bursts of torque. Braking had to be done early and only to the limit allowed by the rear. I setup most corners with just enough speed to get some limited skip from the rear and then feathered clutch and front brake to trim the speed. By the mid-afternoon we had exited the twisties and my hands were aching from control overload, but my mouth hurt worse from the incessant smile.
The Shinko Ravens showed their limits to be about 75% of what the bike will do and about 80% of what I can personally muster. Good tires for slabbing away in warm weather, but they aren't what you need if you are turning it up in the cold and wet. Grumpy had fun when his ME880 rear got wet and all excited. I think he and tire kissed and made-up afterwards.
BTW, Scab. Rt-60 said to say "Hi!".
Anyone who didn't make it, simply missed one helluva nice ride and the best of fellowship (present company excluded).
