Will someone in the Seattle area please call me. I am here from Oklahoma, and my AE transmission bit the dust at Lion's Bay coming into Vancouver. Dealers there will not help me, and am also having trouble getting a Seattle dealer to help me get back on the road to NAFO. It is in warranty. My name is Phil, and my cell is 918-916-9088. Thank you very much!

Aww damn Phil, I'm so sorry to hear that!! If you need some names off the list, PM me and I'll get you the info.

Yes, Michelle, that would be great. I know there are some active members here in Seattle, but don't remember their forum names. There is a University Motors here. Is it the same one that everyone raves about? Thanks. Phil

Thanks, Cigar Man! IF I make it to NAFO, I can give y'all a rundown of this exciting experience thru 14 states and 1 Canadian province.

Hope your problem is something simple but there have been some problems with early AE shifting components. There was a recall for some of the early Gen II AEs because of a faulty actuator rod bracket. When it fails it will cause a SH 51 error code. There is a good chance that your '06 was part of the recall program. Once you hook up with a dealer they will be able to tell from your VIN if your FJR is in the recall range and if the recall work has already been done.

You can remove the left side cover and inspect the shift actuator to see if it looks displaced. The rod will be attached to the mount, but the mount won't be attached to anything. You can manually move the rod to shift the engine for emergency maneuvering.

The fix is a new, stronger bracket. A dealer would 1) have to have a bracket in stock 2) be willing to call other dealers to see who may have one in stock 3) take a bracket off an AE on the floor and put it on your bike, then replace the bracket on the donor bike when one comes in.

Good luck! Since there was no description of your failure I hope that I'm off base with my guess.

Thanks. This is good info, of which I was not aware. I am not getting an error code, but the defect which you describe seems like what mine is doing - - - - the rod is moving, but nothing happens in the tranny. I have the bike currently stored at the wrecker service barn in North Vancouver. If I can find a dealer who will work on it in a timely manner, I then need to rent a truck to go back and bring it into Washington.

Keep us posted with your info.. Sorry I don't have data to fix you problem..

Hope to see you at NAFO!

Give Renton Motorcycles a call they are just south of Seattle (800) 460-6451 or (425) 226-4320

or give Brothers Powersports in Bremerton a call (360) 479-6943 Their service manager is a legend - Mike Velasco

I would try Brothers first. Both are Yamaha dealers

If neither of those work then you might try Desert Valley Motorsports in Prosser (509) 786-2060. They are the farthest away of the three, but they are know for great service by the folks ont he east side of the state.

Sorry I can't get up there to help, I have conflicts at work that prevent me from taking the day off.

Phil...here are a few to try

Adventure Motorsports - Monroe 360-805-5550 (Replaced my ECU, have a highly rated mechanic)

Ride - Woodinville - 425-487-3881 (Have heard good things about their service dept.)

Cycle Barn - Smokey Point - 360-530-7800

Skagit Powersports - Burlington - 360-757-7999

I'll keep searching for more dealers farther north, there should be a Yamaha dealer in Bellingham...but no luck yet.

Any idea what the part number is?

I may be able to track down a bracket.

What's up with the CDN dealers refusing to help? Is it because they can't get the warranty relief from Yamaha USA? This is pretty dissapointing to hear.

Good luck, man, looks like lots of folks trying to help!

We'll keep some drinks on ice for you in Golden.

Unfortunately that's probably the case. :( I would guess there are differences as to what Canada's national law is regarding how warranty stuff is to be handled compared to the US version...

I'm watching this thread intently..

QUOTE: What's up with the CDN dealers refusing to help? Is it because they can't get the warranty relief from Yamaha USA? "".......... We are all sorry to say, there is no cross border agreement between Yammi Canada and Yammi USA. It is always a problem getting yer bike fixed under warranty in another jurisdiction. Oh, they`ll fix it alright but you`ll have to pay for the whole shot and then, make yer case back home for reimbursement.
