You mentioned that you removed the tension from the center throttle spring, I did that and did the Barbarian jumper mod and then removed all of the slack from the throttle cable - idle the bike and turn the bars full turns both ways to make sure the idle does not change. I found with these changes and after 1600 miles I am very comfy on my 06, Part of it is just getting used to the touchy throttle. :lol:
hey Sleddog have you tried "getting used to the throttle " on the dragon or some similar road or track ? Go back and read my previous post: I am not talkimg about " just getting through it "

 
At this point, as far as I know, there is no Barbarian Jumper Mod available for the 06 FZ1's DENSO EFI and there is a good chance that this may be the case with the new FJR's.

There is a Barbarian Jumper Mod available for the 06 FJR, It makes a big difference but still has a little left when you jump back the throttle.
Well, that's good new about the mod being available. I guess I'd have known that if I spent a little more time here. I'd love to have a link to the instructions for the 06 FJR. Maybe I could see if the FJR's new ECU is even remotely similar to the FZ1's. Although I doubt I'll be the first one to try it on the 06 FZ1. That could end up being some very expensive smoke. I am closely watching the Yamaha performance gurus work their magic before I start any mods.

Still, that mod only lets you make slight adjustments to the Co% and not the FI or ignition map. Even the guys on the FZO1A board who have added the PCIII and custom maps say the on/off throttle transition is only somewhat better but not completely gone from what I understand.

Almost all complaints about this surfaced early on as riders were pushing the upper edge of the bike's performance in the technical stuff during some track days and mountain "racing". When you are turning 8,9,10 grand or more and close the throttle entering a turn full tilt then snap that right hand, all the power made in that range is right there. There's no carburetor vacuum diaphragm lag or any resemblance of something mild. It can be violent and just plain scary if not applied carefully, and will shoot that rear tire right out from under you. Not a good thing, but from what I read almost all modern FI performance bikes have this problem to varying degrees. I see the superbike guys smoking that big tire coming up out of the turns all day long. Looks like fun!

I may be repeating myself here and please forgive me but a very simple Yamaha fix would be to lighten up the throttle a little and change the throttle cam back to the 05 design. There are alternative methods outlined on the forum to do that.

I know there is one dealer out there trying to procure these 05 cams. Right now you have to buy the complete 05 assembly if you want to change and that is an expensive option.

Having said this I put Triumph after market cans on a Speed Triple I owned and factory remapped the ECU and the bike which tended to be a little abrupt throttlewise turned into a much smoother more powerful bike. Think the EPA was responsible for the original mapping.

Right now the 06 throttle "switch" from trailing to on make smooth exits from corners a real chore.

With regard to Iggies comments on consensus building, I did talk at length with Yamaha techs at the MotoGP. They were aware of the problem but would say no more as I believe the corporate wheels take a lot of turning.

I was wishing for a way to unscramble the mystery behind adjusting the Co% on my FZ1 but looks like a PCIII or other controller will be in my future.

Ya think it would be a good time to trade up to an 07 FJR when they come out?

snap here again. The only conclusions I can draw thus far after going over all the responses are that there is, in fact, a problem inherent in the bike. Yamaha is aware of the problem but has no comment yet. Also, if I ride the bike at less than the expected performance "I'll get used to it".
