I hope to make a lil contribution to encourage Tyler, with the EOM coordinators' and Jaime's blessing to setup a speaker phone conference call at some point when everyone is gathered and sing to Tyler.

Also, I'm a bit involved in arranging a free will offering to go toward Tyler's expenses on top of what's been done already, or we might find that a company has already donated a farkle as a prize to be designated to be raffled off with the proceeds to go to Tyler.

The song I propose to be sung to Tyler over the phone to her in the hospital is:

Beach Boys: "California Girls"

would seem quite appropriate and many already now the words:

Well east coast girls are hip

I really dig those styles they wear

And the southern girls with the way they talk

They knock me out when Im down there

The mid-west farmers daughters really make you feel alright

And the northern girls with the way they kiss

They keep their boyfriends warm at night

I wish they all could be california

I wish they all could be california

I wish they all could be california girls

The west coast has the sunshine

And the girls all get so tanned

I dig a french bikini on hawaii island

Dolls by a palm tree in the sand

I been all around this great big world

And I seen all kinds of girls

Yeah, but I couldnt wait to get back in the states

Back to the cutest girls in the world

I wish they all could be california

I wish they all could be california

I wish they all could be california girls

I wish they all could be california

(girls, girls, girls yeah I dig the)

I wish they all could be california

(girls, girls, girls yeah I dig the)

I wish they all could be california

(girls, girls, girls yeah I dig the)

I wish they all could be california

(girls, girls, girls yeah I dig the)

I would vote to raffle off a a few donated farkle items rather than straight donation collections.

I know some people felt somewhat put-out, feeling they needed to donate in the past. And let's face it, times are tough all over. Just because some of us are well enough off to afford charity doesn't mean that everyone is. For some folks, the entry fees alone may be a stretch, and I, for one, would really, really, really not want anyone missing out on EOM because they aren't able to donate to a charity and do not want to be embarrassed.

Just one man's vote.

I would hope everyone has the self esteem to do what they can, feeling no pressure or embarrasment over the deal.

The best I could do is place a $10 in Tyler's offering box placed in out of the way corner table, but adding $1 into the box is fine and every bit helps. Just note to her would be fine and appreciated by her.

Unlike SFO where the hat was passed for a charity donation, I would make a box with a label with Tyler's pic and "Tyler's Love Offering" and just place it on a table at each gathering event. An announcement can be made that it exists.

Anyone that wishes to make an anonoymous gift by dropping something into the box (a note to her would be appropriate as well), that's fine. But no one would be embarrassed by passing a hat.

Just my 1.5 cents

I sing for NO ONE.
Thank God for that... :yahoo:

That's nice. But I'm talking about the real world and real people. Perhaps you have not been in that position and cannot appreciate it. It isn't about self esteem.

And, (hoping your self esteem is full up) I don't wanna be mean or anything, but "Tyler's Love Offering"? C'mon...

I'm retired because I'm disabled, living on SS, and supporting a wife and two teenager daughters

I could curl your hair with storys of Hurricane Katrina

<need I say more>

BTDT and still am

again, I do what I can and could care less what others think; I just have to live with myself

I pass up lotsa $ raisers, but will do something tangible as led

the advantage of being retired is that I can donate time and energy, not $

but $5 or $10 is usually available cause I know I can skip that desert, bag of chips, or whatever to make it happen

I'm going to EOM, but skipping two other bike events cause I have only enough to do one of them

but I have an extra $10 even if I just get a hamburger for lunch instead of a seafood platter which is what I crave

just sayin'

sounds like ya a cynic at times Fred, but we love ya anyway :clapping:

and ya opinion hold weight and is always considered <sometimes>

carry on :yahoo:

We do what we can, when we can. for whoever we can, and that's the goodness.

I think my Grandmother told me that. It's always stuck with me.

I can't make EOM, but I do have a set of EBay 35w HIDS for the cause if someone wants to set something up.

At CFR they auctioned off a bunch of stuff (commemorative plaques, etc) and raised somewhere north of a grand for the local food bank... went over well, and was enjoyable watching folks out bid each other... and one guy who kept outbidding himself. It added to the fun, and was for a good cause. I'm sure a similar thing at EOM would work also.

At SFO, a local charity was designated and sponsored by the event (the local habitat for humanity) and a representative of the town and the charity was invited and showed up. Special prizes received from Yamaha and a forum member who is a dealer in Canada were donated - Yamaha shirts, riding jackets, and tools with the Yamaha logo stamped in them. Each was auctioned and received many times their worth in the excitement - many hundreds of dollars bid for a $35 set of Yamaha logoed tools. Then someone had the bright idea to just pass the hat as most of us could not afford a $100 bid. I would guess most everyone dropped a $20 into the hat. I think $1800 was donated to the charity but my memory sucks (where's my aricept).

I know it's up to the EOM coordinators what's gonna happen and how. I'm just making off the cuff suggestions.

A vendor asked me if something was gonna be done for Tyler and what is my experience in this area. I could only respond what I saw at SFO (my only Feejer Gathering, but I've attended many, many Vulcan Cruiser owners Gatherings) and what my self brain storming suggestion(s) are. I'm just sharing with no expectations. It's up to the EOM coordinators and maybe the masses giving them their suggestions or thoughts on the matter. Maybe the EOM coordinators would be led to post a survey on these matters, I don't know.

Absolutely no disrespect meant at all... but something was done for Tyler. I'm not against doing further things to help her out by any means. A lot of folks have already given, though.

I think that is a GREAT idea Mike. That way those that would like to put something in and can afford it = CAN and those that can't afford to or don't want to donate = don't have to, and nobody will know that Fred W didn't give anything.

Geeze, thanks for the inspirational comments, forum pal. Really constructive.

But, just for fun, go read my post again before you go making those kinds of hasty (and incorrect) assumptions. If you actually had been paying any attention, and knew me the least bit better, you'd know that I tend to be as generous as anyone when it comes to causes such as this. And Tyler's is no exception.

My concern is that we do not scare anyone away from participating in a motorcycle event because someone want to turn it into a charity event. T

Fred was overly kind in his response to this post, I have to assume that it is because he understands this thread is about Tyler and nothing else. Let's try to keep it that way by keeping the ill placed sarcasm to a minimum.

Yup...some people have already given a lot!

The "auction" at CFR was a great idea....and so is a "goodwill box".

Don't forget to get something commemorative (A poster for EOM, whatever) and have everyone sign it, then mail it.

"My concern is that we do not scare anyone away from participating in a motorcycle event because someone want to turn it into a charity event. "

That is a valid point, but I don’t think that was Mike’s intention. There is fund on all the forums that allows people that wish to, to donate funds to Tyler. But their name or AKA is attached to their donation. A donation box (if that is as far as it goes. NO carrying that box around and presenting it to people) for small anonymous donation for Tyler might be a good idea and I don’t feel would turn EOM into a charity event.

I know Mike; he’s just a nice guy that wants to do something for everyone in need.

You are correct and have my full and sincere apologies. Upon rereading your previous posts, I did misinterpret the tone. Sorry, see ya at EOM.
