To contribute to Fred's last post, he is correct in that multiple layers of LOOSE fitting clothing are much more insulating than tighter/close fitting, all with the exception of the layer next to your body. The best warming material is still wool, man has yet to top it in terms of insulating protection/warmth, especially if wet.

As for the feet, ice fisherman and hunters know that a good pair of 9volt battery operated socks can make a big difference! Plus, there's no additional power draw from the bike if you're plugged in with a vest, grips, etc.

My being cold yesterday was my own stupid fault for not planning appropriately and underestimating the effect of windchill even on my "short little jaunt". Must be aging...

My feet were the only thing bothering me yesterday. I had to stop a couple of times to walk around. Hands were ok with a combo of heated grips, hand guards, and some light weight hippo hands. I had a new to me heated vest but I blew the fuse (below the body work) as soon as I left. I was happy to see the old homestead come into view. I have to go for a 40 mile ride today to pickup my Pacific Coast from the dealer after a little repair work. It's a balmy 36 degrees at 9:30 am.

Well as I said you guys are tough and a I know what Fred is talking about. I was out yesterday hunting and my shlong shriveled up to 8 inches....I hate when that happens...you guys know what I mean DONT YOU!

Good on you guys proving ************ in these cold temps.

Bravo! :clapping:
Went to the men's room at the restaurant and couldn't find mine...
Now that's funny  .

Despite the significant shrinkage, you guy's are tough, or whacked. :p

Another idea for your feet is those chemical heat packs Grabber ,they sell at Home Depot for cheap. No battery or electric. I'm told by hunters, they last for like 6 hours.

Yeah, good thought. I'll have to look into those battery operated socks.
Well, I hope they work better than my D cell powered socks that didn't do diddly, zipppity sqwat. :glare:

They were thicker socks with wiring and a battery holder...thought they'd be great for my frost-bitten circulation impaired feet.

They sucked...because they promised warm toes...and I didn't get nothin. zero. nadda. nuttin.

I can ride all day in the 30s if I stop every couple hours to warm up...but it would be nice to have toasty fingers and toes.

Yeah, cota mentioned them yesterday. Not sure how well they'd fit inside of the boots, especially around the toes where they'd be wanted. My boots fit pretty snug.

Yeah, exactly. Gloves and socks or foot-beds and a whole bunch of wires seems like the way to go. Damn jacket and pants liners are very 'spensive.

What are foot beds Fred?

Well, duh!! It's where feet go to sleep at night.

Pfffft!! Bwahahahaha!!! WHY do you open yourself like this? :dntknw:

Ahhhh, thanks, Chris, I needed that! Just kidding, messing with ya bro! Trust me, I've asked dumber questions..... ya learn to do a search real quick on this board! Hey, at least it wasn't Friday, right?

Well at least CJ showed up on this one! :p

Dave
Ouch, C'mon Dave, I made it to the Quabbin ride and the Whites and Greens this year!! :p
Only kiddiing CJ, We are even anyway, I missed out on the Quabbin ride earlier this year. Today would have been a great day for Chowda. Temps in the 40's. Oh well. I took the wife for a spin around the hood for her to try out the new seet anyway. Looks like I will be able to get another week of riding in. No snow forcast for next week. Yahoooooo. :yahoo:

Dave - no snow for another week? Jeeeeez . . . . we're going to be at the 4 foot mark for the month already by the end of today . . .

Harlan,

That's what you get for living right under a Great Lake! Who had the brilliant idea of building cities in Rochester and Buffalo anyway?

No snow yet here either (knock on wood). The weather fakirs around here are already proposing that this may be the first time in a while we go the entire month of December with no "measurable" s*%wfall. A few dustings so far, but nothing you can stick a ruler into.

Well we will see if it is the final ride today into work. 16 degrees on the way into work. Yesterday they took our department out for lunch and a couple of the old retiree's showed up too. One of them asked who I was since I had not met him before. After telling him a little of my history with the company he blurted out OH! your the nut who is still riding his motorcycle to work. Ive have herd about you. Security is still leaving an orange cone in the front row for me. As the guard told me as I was walking in yesterday. " I want the name of your psychiatrist " Your nut's!

Edit: I am trying to wear out this set of PR2's and I can't seem to do it in one season. Over 14K on the front.
