Well this is the first for me. I was trying to move my bike today back into the garage and she wouldn't fire up. Seemed to crank over fine. Tomorrow I will throw it on a trickle charger and see what happens. I believe I am still covered under the Yamaha Yes Plan so maybe if she doesn't start tomorrow it might be getting towed to the dealer.

Cranks but doesn't light the fire ? Likely weak battery.

A charge may help but might be time for a new one.

How fast did it crank? When the battery cranks the bike over slowly, it absolutely will not start. I've tried this many, many times while testing out Shorai batteries during my cold weather testing. I 've done it so many times, I can tell if it's going to start just by listening to the cranking speed of my bike while it's trying to start. Below a certain speed and forget it. But above that speed, it ALWAYS starts. Once ya reach a decent cranking speed, it should light off.

Had you previously started the engine and run it for a short time (seconds rather than minutes)? If so, it's flooded, and will probably need the wide-open-throttle treatment to get it started.

I think the problem is mostly electical at this point. I tried the WOT and nothing. I smell gas so I think we are good there. When I get home I will check the fuses and charge the battery. I may just order a battery anyway since it is still the original. The other thing to check is the power cammander to see if that still works.

^^^^Mine has done exactly that a couple times. Strong gas smell too.

If you smell gas, you flooded it. Every time I hear, "I was moving it back into the garage...," I immediately think flooded. Lots of us will fire it up, move it a few feet, and then shut it down. We stop doing that after the first time it refuses to start because of too much fuel.

Charge the battery and give it a shot. I may not start the first time you go WOT, if it refuses, back the throttle down just a hair. FYI, it should feel like its spinning kind of fast...

Google: "Fast Starter Syndrome; site: FJRForum" You'll get lots of hits and find the thead all about it.

I rolled it out of the garage and parked it outside for a couple of hours. It wasn't until I went to put it back away that it wouldn't start. Before we go to far south in this thread let me do some diagnosis tonight when I get home. I was to busy to try anything yesterday.

thanks, Dave

Heck, it's pinned in the same area this thread was started. Don't even need to search. Sounds like it to me from the OP's descriptions. :)

And you didn't accidently knock the kill switch?

Yeah, unlike many other bikes, the Feej will not crank with the kill switch set.

I missed that part where you said that it seemed to crank over just fine. That pretty much eliminates what I had to say. Good luck Dave.

Well I learned how to access the diag screen for the first time tonight. It didn't do me much good but at least I got some more feejer knowledge under my belt. Anyway, after doing some research as Zilla suggested, Dam I hate to admit he was right.

anyway I did the WOT again for a longer period of time and whadda ya know. She fired up and I thought the pistons were gonna go through the ceiling of the garage. I could here that CCT screeching up a storm on take off. Well I let her warm up to 5 bars and shut it off. We will see how it goes in the AM.

Hopefully all is well now, fingers crossed.

Dave

I had the same thing happen just a couple weeks ago. All dressed up and no place to go. Started the following day on WOT, and fine ever since.

But jeez, don't encourage Zilla.
