I'm not an aggressive rider like Fairlaner and SkooterG,
I have repeatedly attempted to get Su Nino Malo, Senior SkooterG, to take my Well-Worn Darkside FJR for a spin, but fate and circumstances have not permitted it yet.

Yes, of course, don't be silly...I do have my insurance all paid up and documented.

As far as Aggressive Riders, Mr. FJRONAMISSION, has proven that a Car Tire can be used successfully for that style of riding. I have personally heard Fairlaner speak of how moved he was by riding with Brian at WFO last July in Northern California.

I hope you receive a Mistletoe Belt Buckle for Xmas. If you have one of those, you can celebrate the holidays all year round!!!

Well Ray, how was Eric going to argue the wearing ladies underwear part with BigBlu? Merry Christmas to All of You FJR Darksiders!

You wierdos need someone pulling for you in your corner, might as well be Jesu Cristo!

Yes, God protects fools, dogs, and little children.
An apt description of most here. Feliz Navidad.

+1, Gunny! I am in full agreement with you, Doug! As far as I am concerned, a car tire on an FJR is a proven, effective and safe modification. Seth and I viewed Richard and Brian dueling as we were headed eastbound out of Eureka on CA 299; we had to leave a day early to get Seth back to Junior High School.

Old Michael and ShinyPartsUp related to me that Fairlaner wasn't speaking, he was cursing! A factor in getting a car tire on Miss Lucy Liu's rear is the never ending "chin music" I am going to hear from "El Senor Sin Trabajo"! My illegitimate bastard Hijo (Son) SkooterG is fully convinced that you FJR Forum car tire guys are as queer as three dollar bills and could not have had much of a Mother!

Considering that comes from a guy that tried on more than one occasion to teach the FJR to fly and now rides a koolaid drinking final drive exploding BMW. I don't think you have much to worry about. :p :D

Well, I went and ordered me up a tire today https://www.generaltire.com/tires/Exclaim-UHP so come first of the year another DarkSider joins the lunatic fringe :)
Well good for you. Have you seen this tire used by other FJR darksiders? I've not read the whole thread so just didn't know. I have a Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S that is supposed to be delivered on Dec. 24th so it may find it's way onto my bike next week. I'm gonna keep a close "eye" on me cajones to see if they fall off so I can have them reattached  .

Doctorj

I haven't seen it on any other bikes, it may be buried in the 89 pages though :) That would be an interesting data point to track since there are 40ish FJR's running DarkSide "what tire are you currently running" "what mileage when taken off" "how did it handle" etc etc

Darkside My tire guy thought I was nuts, but mounted it anyway.
Dang it. The shop that mounts me tires is closed through new years and opens Jan. 4th. I'm gonna find someone with a tire changer to get ur done though. :angry2: My front wheel feels like the bearings are kaput so just ordered a set of "All Balls" from ebay so have to wait on them to get in and the shop to pull the old uns and new uns put on. Now me feej sits on the table lift tireless and nekkid.

alchemy - Welcome to the Darkside, you are #39 on the official Darksider list in the FAQ.

So can I lay claim to spot #40 if the tar is waiting to be mounted and put on or do I have to wait until it is actually on ze bike?

We need that piccie of it actually on the bike Doc. But I think you've got a pretty safe lock on #40 at this point. Get-R-Done when you can and let us know here. The numbers are just for fun, it's not like you'll get a discount at WalMart or be able to enter the secret lower bar at the next WFO. ;)

I have been very disappointed with the longevity of my Yokohama AVS Db. After 16600 km the tread in the centre is down to the wear bars. :angry2: It did not even reach the 23171 km my previous PR2 got. OK, it was ridden hard during my OSA trip, but damn, I was hoping for more kilometres. Another downside is there aren't really any alternative CTs to choose from around here. If this is the mileage I'll be getting I'd rather go back to PR2s.

I am wondering if the increase in pressure from 2 to 2.5 bar (30 to 36 psi) had anything to do with the percieved accelerated wear over the last 6000-8000 km. I increased the pressure to get rid of a weave at, uhm, elevated speeds (only partially succesful).

Well, dayum. Now I gotta learn how to post a pic too. Sheesh this is getting complicated ;) . After riding a while, I don't need to post a documentation pic that me testicles didn't fall off do I  ? Would you guys and gals just take my most honorable word for that :) ?

Took it out today for a spin, only 60 miles, but enough to say it'll work --> no flaming death :) Getting out of the driveway while it was snowing and slush on the road sucked, but once under way it was fine. Stopped by a parking lot and did 8's and weaves etc for about 10 minutes. Ran through town on the ridges and pot holes "just to see", it handled better than I anticipated.

You do have to muscle it a bit, but a lean and steady pressure is all that's really needed.

Well that is disappointing. My suspicion is that the higher pressure contributed to the early demise. The center wearing faster than the sides is pretty consistent with too much pressure for the weight. I know we tried hard to find a tire that was the most appropriate of what was available in SA. Still, if that's all it got, it doesn't sound like it's worth it for you. I'd go back to the PR2 unless I could get the CT really cheap or find some alternative tire option.

I understand about the weave, but have only experienced it above 220 kph or so with the Bridgestone 019G, and then not very bad. That was at 32 psi, fwiw. I very rarely get the opportunity to use test facilities, so mostly have to live in the 100-130 kph range.

Do you have any info on what costs would be for having a tire shipped to you? Or any problems with doing so? PM or email me with your shipping address and I'll check from this end.

Well, dayum. Now I gotta learn how to post a pic too. Sheesh this is getting complicated ;) .
I usually upload it to TinyPic.com and setting the resizing tab to "Message Board" (640x480), then copy and paste that IMG link to the forum post. No need to use the image tools here, just copy the IMG link option from TinyPic and paste directly to the post on the forum. Easy, stays there forever as far as I can tell, (longer than Photfu*%et), and allows you to painlessly resize pics.

If you're really struggling, just email me the pic. Addy is in my profile. I'll post it for you using the same method.

FWIW I rode those tires on an actual 4 wheeler car vehicle (SAAB 9000CSE) and although they were superb driving tires, they wore out like they were made from latex rubber. As I recall I got less than 20k miles out of them. I'd keep looking for another brand of CT.

What do they put on the Mini Coopers down there?
