I am official as of 9am 8/2/13. Hopefully this link will show my new Exalto accoutered ride.

@philellis 123 - Welcome to the Darkside. You have been added to the FAQ as Darksider #65.

I hope you enjoy the longer treadlife and it works well for your riding style and needs.

OK.. for the first time ever I am considering going to the darkside. Unlike TriggerT and txvoyager, I elected to go with a tire swap at the first IBR checkpoint in Pittsburgh. I had to shorten my first leg in order to ensure that I arrived at the checkpoint in enough time to perform the tire swap. After reflecting on the IBR and the areas where I can make improvements, I have decided to try changing the rear tire to a Mich. Exalto. I need to do my research on this thread first but I intend to switch asap in order to get as much seat time as possible prior to the next IBR.

+1. I had no issues switching rims in Sac but I was corded and really would have preferred to not spend the 30 minutes swapping. More pages to read, but ready to mount.
Yup.

The FAQ gives you a lot of info w/o having to wade through the main thread.

Sure does.

A couple days ago I ordered the Carmines Custom car tire rear brake adapter from Catfish. Then I just need to finish wearing out the PR2s...

Couple hundred miles on the clock with my new Exalto now....should have done this YEARS ago! Smooth as silk on the slab(unfortunately where I spend most of my time) and very smooth through the sweepers. Just for grins, I purposely did the MSF Box the night before changing over, so I would have a baseline for comparing slow speed maneuvering. I tried the Box on my second day with my new tire and did the Box relatively easily on my third attempt. As far as I can tell, there is NO downside for me and my riding style. Thanks to all who contributed to this "experiment" and made my decision to try it, much easier.

I used a CT for my trip to the Arctic Circle. I used a Yokohama Avid ENVigor. When I first put it on it seemed to track a lot. It took about 300 miles or so to break in...most all of the tracking disappeared. The awesome thing is not having to replace the tire after a 9K trip. I really don't see me going back to a motorcycle tire.

Welcome to the Darkside Slosey, you have been added to the FAQ as Darksider #66. Glad you had a good trip!

In action photo, nice. Was I there changing it or did I run in to get scored. Everything such a blur. Exalto should be nice on dirt roads too. . .
As I recall, you were there working on it for a bit, and I wandered over to Wendy's Workshop, then you were gone. I don't know when you finished - or how!

I notice that your screen name has been updated with the well-earned historical reference.

Welcome to the Darkside Justin, you have been added to the FAQ as Darksider #67.

You will be notified when the next Darksider initiation event is to be held, once I can line up a date with the Jenny McCarthy School of Chrome Removal, (our usual co-sponsor and party partners).

Enjoy the traction and long tread life. Do remember that your speedo and odo will now be closer to actual than before.

Thanks Eric, but I was hoping for 69. P.S. I had to shave just a hair of my center stand.

Brett,

Are you gonna darkside your FJR?
Yup.

I've enjoyed the benefits of the Darkside with the Hondapotamus, so it wasn't a big leap for me.

You guys have talked me into giving the darkside a try. I bought an extra wheel online and a brake bracket from farklemasters, and just ordered an Exalto from Discount Tire. If I can talk the tire store into mounting it, I should be able to take a CT for a test ride over Labor Day. This bike has got me doing things I never thought I'd do. But I'm loving it.

John
