Been considering how my company can help with certain GPS systems that are in constrain by the GPS manufactures.

Thinking out loud here, what if I start a GROUP BUY of discount GPS group membership card that requires a forum member to pay like $25-50 membership fee for a forum discount card that will entitle a 20-30% discount across the board of off MAP.

No GPS brand subspecific just an over all discount card which entitle the member to obtain the 20-30% discount on ANY GPS systems we sell as long as we have it in stock of course or the membership fee will be refunded? I am thinking if Costco can get away with it, why can't we?

Being a member to this forum will not entitle anyone else that is not a forum member to buy in on this discount program, and this is design for anyone in our FJR forum that is looking for a great deal.

This would be one way to get a unit at cost almost.

Will that work for some of you? Just wondering

Any input or interest?

Sounds good to me. I still am debating on which one to get

James,

Thanks for the GREAT offer!

Best Regards,

Shane

P.S. I think it is a GREAT idea if it isn't too much work for you.

I like your thinking, especially if the membership is $25 or lower. Your idea is very creative. Count me in for a zumo 550.

Would be interested in seeing what the savings might actually be, I think it is a great idea and would be ideal for most.

Since you have offered these gps units at your cost before to forum members, could you post an example of a unit, what it would be based on this formula plus the additional right of passage added in!.

Interested!

Just so I get it straight, I can buy the membership card whenever I want to, like the day I decide to buy a GPS? Sort of like the way some retailers give you a discount on what you buy at the time you apply for their store credit card.

Count me in. I know you've been thinking of a way to battle Garmin and their restrictive pricing policies (something that doesn't seem to inhibit onliners from deeply discounting GPS's) yet be competitive with price.

Be aware though that I found a 2730 for $679.00, with XM antenna and all. The competition is unreal. Good for consumer, bad for dealers.

Edit-now $550.00.

I am working out the details, so here is what will happen if it does at all.

Unit sale price for lets say a Magellan, Garmin, TomTom or any other brand of GPS system MAP is $999 and my cost is $699. With this membership, you are entitle to buy the unit at the $699 cost plus actual S/H, and probably 2% for c.c. fee if you don't wish to do a money transfer.

We process order when we can after our normal paying customers, so please understand this is a benifit and not a sale for us.

You will be issued a GPS saver number and only so many will be issued, so you can buy it when you want the GPS, but I cannot guarantee that we will have any saver card to sell when you are ready for one.

I have to balance my inventory for retail, fleet and online with benifits for this forum.

So I allow a small percentage to go towards forum benefit with proof of owning an FJR, so please don't be telling to many of your friends of this offer or Garmin, Magellan or TomTom will kill the deal for everyone I am sure.

Since the GPS saver card is like money, you can get your $25-$50 back if we can't perform or deliver the product, and the card is good for ANY GPS unit we have for this program, I don't think Garmin, Magellan or TomTom have a right to say who can offer this GPS saver card program or not, much like Costco I guess.

So, this is the way is going to go.

By the way, I have a brand NEW sealed TomTom Rider for anyone that is looking for one, call Rick at 650-328-8832 if you wish to pick it up. I think these new motorcycle GPS products from Garmin and Magellan is going to take it's place.

If you are really thinking of getting one this Christmas for yourselve, I would consider calling Rick to put your name down on the list of GPS saver card if you are really interested in it, and if the program do fly, we will be dealing with each individual on this forum and I will not be posting on this forum making this benifit known to everyone or someone will try to kill the deal that can be a competition.

It is not for resale so please don't buy and resell it.

Lets hear what some of the lowest prices being offered for Zumo's or TomTom Riders?

Hope I am doing some good here for this forum

Well, You peeked my interest in the GPS now! Count me in! (if it flies)

You vendors are killing me! LOL... I think before it's done, I will have more invested than a H-D will after buying all the "look cool" stuff! :haha:

Great work 04FJR4ME!!! :clapping:

Great deal, I'll at least get the card and see if I can swing the GPS later. At least I'm not out that much if I miss a deadline.

Bill

I am planning on giving myself a Zumo 550 for Christmas. A man has to get what he wants for Christmas somehow. Your plan sounds great to me!

04FJR4ME:

Thanks for your generous offer! I would be interested in getting a GPS. Guess I'm from the "old school" and never even used a paper map much when traveling. Never worried much about getting lost while on the motorcycle. I'd just tell my wife that we were "Touring". ;) However, on a trip out west last year, I can see how a GPS could really come in handy in route planning and locating places to stay and eat.

I am basically ignorant to the GPS world but I've been paying more attention lately to all the discussions about them. Now I'm to the point of deciding to go ahead and get one. However, I don't want one with all the whistles and bells since I have an iPod Nano for music and don't need satellite radio. I have weather info on my CB or FRS. So, please tell me if you will, what kind of basic GPS should I get to accomplish the following:

1) User friendly for motorcycle use but also usable in our cars

2) Has voice instructions and touch screen

3) Don't have to use batteries (can wire into 12V system)

4) Can withstand some amount of rain while used on the motorcycle

5) And, of course, inexpensive to purchase

Is there any simple...yet effective...unit out there to meet my needs at a very reasonable cost?

Thanks for your help!
