No Gun, you put Sportbike guy behind Geezer2. I think he meant the street to his right, basically pulling out into his path to initiate a left turn.YIKES! That does make a difference.

Man.... I guess I am just a stupid old man! I certainly never thot my post would stir this kinda shit!!! I joined here for the knowledge, comraderie and understanding. Instead, I get critizism (sic), what I thought was a great site of the brotherhood of bikers, seems to have left a bitter taste in my mouth. Yeah, I know, "would I like some WHINE with my cheese". Geezer you made the correct call you saved your self and from another from being injured. After all it is a bike and not a person
Tid bit of history more rumor and not much truth. Several yeards ago some one (and I do not know who ) started a rumor that laying a bike down was the wrong thing to do.
As you can see some people still believe it and think it is true. A good rider uses all what is available to them at that moment to avoid impact and personal injury to them and the other person.
And another thing abs brake are the savior for every crash. If they were there would be no crashes :dirol:

Geezer2 was ALREADY in the intersection waiting for peds ahead to cross. Traffic to right has a stop sign and therefore must not enter the intersection until it is safe to do so.

Maybe he thought he had the right of way and did you a favor by helping to pick up your bike ? And that is really good fuel mileage !
edit: Guess I better explain better . Perhaps he had thought you defaulted and it was his turn since he wasn't held by pedestrian traffic ? Just guessing to justify their not offering to make good on your damage. And yes , I think you did the right & difficult thing under the circumstances. Good job and good attitude Geezer2

Lay off the geezer2. He has explained his actions...done.
He stopped and "dropped" his bike to avoid some knuckleheads blowing turning in front of him while he was yielding to pedestrians.

You're only problem was in your choice of words to describe the event. "Had to lay 'er down" is the excuse some people use for not knowing how to use their brakes at speed. The same people that say that, will tell you to never use your front brake because "yewl go over them handlebars". And no, laying a bike down at speed is never the right decision on the street. Tires just have much higher friction that all that chrome (although they don't make all those impressive sparks and whatnot).
Your situation was completely different, a low speed drop. I would have been seriously pissed at the cheesedicks on the other bike.
All things considered, words mean something. Tossing phrases like "had to lay 'er down" around here is akin to waving a red flag in front of a bull, and not what you really meant.
