I'm sorry guys, I cant hold back my opinion on what happened in this string.
I agree with Geezer 100%. Most of you guys were way out of line giving him crap over this. Even if he did do something wrong, this string is a perfect example of how immature, insensitive and juvenile many people on internet forums are today.

I thought this board was a little more grown up than many others that I have seen. I have totally lost respect for the FJR board. Why haven't any grownups on this board put the children in there place.

Flame away little boys, you'll only make my case.
Dude, it's the internet. It's gonna happen.

First, to be clear to all my friends out there, we now have 2 Geezers on the forum. Geezer and Geezer2. I did not drop my bike, not recently anyway, and I am OK. :D

To Geezer2, it sounds like you had one of those situations where you were barely moving and had to stop immediately. You probably turned your bars to the side at the same time that you grabbed the brakes. That will put you on the ground real quick. You are a lot more forgiving than I could be; I would be pissed at someone who tried to turn left across my bow.

You might want to re-read the entire thread, EasyRider. You obviously missed a very critical point: there was an obvious miscommunication about what really happened. Geezer2 had a low/no speed tip over; he didn't actually "have to lay her down" to avoid a collision as the thread title would suggest. For that, NO ONE has given Geezer2 crap.

If you think perhaps it would be more mature, sensitive and adult to either withhold an educated opinion and/or agree that laying a bike down in order to avoid a collision is ever a good idea, I have to respectfully disagree. I happen think it that would be ignorant and irresponsible.

It's a shame that you've "totally lost respect for the FJR board". Based on this thread and many others like it, I have more ;)

Ride safe.

Settle down, Beavis. If you didn't have the sack to chime in while it was heated, don't bother ranting now that everything is settled.

Oh, and I fixed your post for you. (Just to show you how immature I really am.)

Good one, Gunny. I was just looking up his address so I could TP his house and leave a flaming sack of dog shit on his front porch :haha:

<checks the calendar to see that its not Friday>...

Uhm, nobody has seemed to address whose at fault here. Hate to say it, but it was Geezer. 4 way stop with a crosswalk, wheelchair crosses in front of you. SquidlyMcSquid is stopped on your right, waiting for his target lane to clear.

Geezer begins his pull out, SquidlyMcSquid pulls out at the very same time. Geezer nails the front brakes while at the same time, turning his bars. Hello Ground!

SquidlyMcSquid had the right of way (being on Geezers right and having both been stopped at the stop sign). At least thats the way nearly every jurisdiction I've ever heard about would call it.

Geezer never pointed fault at either party. Good for him. He just said it had to "lay it down" because their was another bike in his path.

Sound about right Geezer? Shit happens sometimes.

Geezer2,

I appreciate this topic and being introduced to this traffic situation (the logistics of the bikes) and especially the low speed 'get-off'. I'm not very tall and the FJR is especially challenging for me at slow speeds. Thinking about this and looking at the final drawing allows me to at least be aware of this potential. It is immensely helpful to me, somewhat akin to visuallizing the basketball going through the hoop before even throwing it. I live in a very busy and congested area and this could very easily happen to me.

Bungie,

Two contributory factors to consider- Late arrival of wheelchair person to intersection walkway & no signal intention from squid for left turn.

Well your of course correct, the person who arrived at the intersection first before the wheelchair blocked the lanes would have the right of way. I assumed they both arrived around the same time - it seems they both proceeded as soon as the wheelchair cleared the intersection. As for no signal, wouldn't matter if he was going straight or even turning right.

Like I said, shit happens. The ones that really burn my ass are the 'cascade' effect accidents. One guy does something, causing somebody else to take evasive action, causing somebody else to do the same, and next thing you know, somebody is sliding on their ass. Happened to a good buddy of mine just last week. But the long and short of it, experience will alert you when bad shit is going to go down. Usually.

You know.. I am kind of hurt that everyone did not do a big Ole group hug and buff the scratches out of the bike.. I mean what a bunch of pricks, trying to analyse a situation and understand it.. Then to have the BALLS!!! to have an opinion that is less than warm and fuzzy..

I too have totally lost respect for the board.. Y'all are a bunch of dillweeds..

Gunny, I cannot believe you corrected his spelling.. That is so immature.. Next, you will be jumping golf carts while drunk... and you call you self Gunny

In the absence of any other traffic controlling devices (in an intersection)-- the vehicle to your right has the right-of-way.I think....
Geese! This shouldn't be that hard.

Geezer2 was ALREADY in the intersection waiting for peds ahead to cross. Traffic to right has a stop sign and therefore must not enter the intersection until it is safe to do so.
Geezer's mistake was to stop in the intersection. Period. End of discussion (you're welcome, you're welcome--next thread now.... ). I always risk a ticket by blowing by pedestrians who jump into a crosswalk instead of slamming on my brakes and stopping before or (god forbid) in an intersection, THE MOST DANGEROUS PLACE TO BE ON A MOTORCYCLE (when you're moving, let alone when you're stopped).

As for "had to drop it," it sounds like he didn't decide to drop it but grabbed the front brake and tweeked it onto the ground when confronted with a sudden obstacle. So apart from being guilty of stopping in an intersection, he was guilty of imprecise language, which is apostasy on this forum. :nono:

BTW, where did Geezer go??? What happened?--did someone mention knee pucks or sumpin'? :glare:

JB

P.S. Geez, whether you dropped your bike or not, whether you've been riding for 30 years or not, PLEASE take the MSF course.

I agree that it's generally not a good idea to stop a bike in the middle of an intersection. With that said, I've been known to sit in the middle and wait for the light to change so I can turn left....so I'm the pot calling the kettle black.

But, if it's a rider's job to make choices so as to reduce likelihood of problems, then staying out of intersections is probably a good idea.

Bike stopped in an intersection = sitting duck

Think of the shit storm if he had been wearing knee pucks too! :)
Now, this is the defining comment of this whole thread!

I still say my solution would have been best: Center-punch the phuckin' squid and steal his women. You guys lack complete creativity and bravado.

I am shocked that in 5 pages no-one correctly identified the actual person at fault.

It was the person in the wheelchair. They probably assumed GeezerII was on a "HD" and had plenty of time to get across. You should have gone over there, kicked over the wheelchair and shouted "see what you made me do?!"

*The above post was made completely in jest and any similarities between the characters and actual FJR Forum members were coincidencal. Side effects may cause laughing, sighing, anger, rectal discomfort and dry-mouth. Please see your doctor to ensure you are healthy enough before kicking over any wheelchairs.

Dudes, you can ask a valid technical question here and get some shit answers, but it's OK if you don't take yourself too serious, I mean on here you're either informative, amusing, or irrelevant.
