Disregarding the fact that you've set up an oxymoron or conundrum (how can he take your advice then?), I'm thinking that just like the warning sticker on a new FJR's tank (wasn't it something about riding motorcycles can be dangerous?) for those foolish enough not to realize the obvious, maybe we should put the above in the FAQ. The advice givers are self described multiple divorcees or persons that have very f***ked relationships in the first place.

Contrary to your argument, this circumstance reminds me why many law firms require litigation experience before an associate can join the transactional department. Those with litigation experience have often seen the shit hit the fan at the intersection of circumstance and contract terms and are, therefore, presumed to be sharper at recognizing potential problems when drafting contracts to minimize the chance of litigation.

Having said that, Barry, I don't disagree with your previous advice to try to be circumspect, understanding and compassionate in family relations before taking out the blasting caps and dynamite. I just think that Howie and the rest of us understand that dynamic as adults and know that there are limits to its applicability. Besides, Howie admitted to being a divorcee himself (albeit with the same spouse) and it was not unreasonable to assume that he was seeking feedback from his peers.

I'm happy for anyone who has maintained only one long term happy marital relationship in their lives. But it takes two, and part of that success is having made a good choice about who you try to do that with. We divorcees have more iterations, have seen the shit hit the fan and know more about bad choices.

Yes, on this forum most of us have a serious motorcycle bias. But I resent you implying that we are male chauvinists. Motorcycles and women go GREAT together. Imagine a MotoGP with no umbrella girls. Imagine a supercross race without the monster energy girls holding up the 30 second sign. Women are a big part of motorcycling!!!

My wife bought me my last motorcycle. She said sign this insurance form, then handed me the keys. Women are great! Granted the bike needed some work that she didn't know about like new tires, brake work (someone actually put water in the system instead of fluid), and there was a fuel leak right in front of the rear tire (odd plumbing for an overflow).

One more thing- I would add that the age group represented here tends to be on the older, more set in their ways side of things. I know- either you are offended or this comment does not apply to you. In any event, the comment of "If it were between X and my wife/gf, then I would chose X" is often heard in this neck of the woods. Sometimes tongue and check, and sometimes not (I suspect). The FJR forum is a great place for advice. It is such a good place for advice, often it is deceiving and one might forget the limitations. Do not take relationship advice from this forum- conundrum or not.

Exskibum, I've known many older couples who have lived a nice long life together. When I was younger and had about enough of all the Crap I had to deal with. I'd visit and sit with them often. We'd talk all afternoon about their lives together. I'd ask them if they can tell me what was their secret to holding hands deep into their 70's.

He Said: The upstairs maid when the wife spent all day by the pool!

She Said: The pool boy when the husband was upstairs shagging the maid!

I learned a lot from that lovely couple. For a long while after that, I became a Pool Boy! :clapping:

Never met Kurt but the manager for Pearl Jam lives behind me, Kelly. Jean, when we moved here in 2008, went to a party and met Edie Vedder's wife. They live close by too. Don't take relationship advice from Rockstars nor Holywood, either. Possibly worse than the FJR forum.

IF this is serious and not just for fun posting, then seek some professional counseling or perhaps a friend with counseling skills. To put is another way, would you take riding lessons from riders that could not stay on their bike? Oh, you have had 3 major crashes in 6 years- please teach me to ride. Hell no!

While I think that this is smart, well thought out advice with the best of intentions, I have to disagree with it almost completely.

First, why would you not want advice from those most like yourself? Like it or not we all share some strong similarities. The decision to own a motorcycle sets us all apart from society and makes us a minority. The decision to specialize in a Sport Tourer puts us in a very tiny percentage of that minority. It is apparent that we all have more in common here than we would like to admit. If you commit a crime you are judged by a jury of your peers. Why can you not ask advice from a "jury" of your closest peers?

I personally have never been through a divorce. I am happily married. The assumption that we are all too messed up to carry on a long term meaningful relationship is pure bull shit. Perhaps you speak for yourself, you are not speaking for me.

As far as the motorcycle bias, what is wrong with that. If the motorcycle is part of the issue it has to be considered by someone who understands it. If the "Professional Counsellor" has no motorcycle experience then that person is completely unable to understand the passion associated with our bikes. One would as soon attempt to describe sex to a virgin or the color blue to a blind man.

I will close with this. Even though RadioHowie is one of the more abrasive characters on this forum, he is certainly quite popular. The man has a loyal following. In short, there are many on here who actually care what happens to him. Who better to offer advice in time of need than those who understand you, think like you and care about you.
