I'm with you, Vic....when I look in my mirrors to check my six, I often wonder what the big hoo-hah is about not being able to see to the rear, and you've seen me...I'm a "wide-body" so it's not like I'm some 97-pounder with no shoulders or arms to get in the way.

Guess it's a hundred smackers I can save and spend elsewhere on the bike. :D

Yep! I did however paste some 2" round concave mirrors to cover the blind spots. Works just fine for me and the clean lines are still there. :)

The FZ1 mirrors are the best farkle I've ever done to an FJR in my opinion. Put them on my 04 and on my 08 when I got it. I'm not a wide body and when I looked in the OEM mirrors, half of them were blocked by my hand and elbows. Kinda bothered me even before I found out about the FZ1 mirrors. Much better now. And they don't look like they came off my chevy Impala.

They may be practical for some but, those things are FUGLY and kill the original clean lines of the bike. JMHO! :)
On the Gen-I, they're the same mirror, same construction, just a longer stalk. Not that big a difference style-wise.

And what kinda girly-man worries so much about form over function, anyway???? :p

IMHO, a bonus of FZ1 mirrors on my Gen 1 '04 is the fact that in tight quarters of some kind,

if the mirror(s) don't hit anything, the bags won't. So I don't worry anymore about the width of the bike with sidebags when "aiming" the bike with obstacles nearby.

So Mike..... You're saying that they act like the curb feelers on a Cockroach?! Cause that's what they look like!

For those who have problems seeing around their hands/elbows....

You do know the mirror heads aren't stationary right? :yahoo:

Well, i *CAN* see behind me with the OEM mirrors, but it takes some shifting and turning ever so slightly to the left and right in order to do so. Unfortunately, you don't always have time to make those adjustments. I have noticed that I can tell when an FJR is on the road just by the way they weave about as they compensate for the mirrors.

How do dipshits that ride GenI bikes with the same style mirror, and put less than 500 miles a year on their bike get an opinion in this debate? The GenII OEM mirrors suck. If they work for you, or you think they work for you, that's great, but after I put my FZ1 mirrors on , I realized what I had been missing.

FWIW, I was one of the ones that thought the OEM mirrors were fine and could be "fixed" by adding little blind-spot mirrors. I was wrong. Until you have seen the difference the mirrors make between the views, you have no idea what you're talking about.

I'm going to honor my colleague MM2 by saying: Ummmm Urrrrrr What the FZ1 mirrors make up in vision is nothing compared to what it loses in the Real estate in the mirror itself. They are smaller and they still LOOK LIKE ****!! You people should stop trying to convince yourselves that you are gaining something! YOU ARE NOT! They look like you are Riding some Bumblebee contraption from a SyFy movie from the 50's.

BZZZZZZZZT!!!!!!

The FZ1 mirror is the same mirror as the Gen-I OEM, but on a longer stalk. Not that big a deal for those of us with superior bikes. :)

When you see the first forum page, with the 3 Gen-I bikes pictured, look at their mirrors.

The only time I've seen anybody put a Gen-II mirror on a Gen-I bike, apparently because they liked "style" more than usefulness, resulted in......

So put that in your how-it-looks pipe and smoke it, instead of whatever's already burning in there! :p

Why do the anti FZ1 mirror people feel compelled to spout **** about this mod? Are you trying to convince someone that you have superior taste? What are you really adding to this discussion?

Here's an idea: If you think they look bad, then don't do it to your bike. I don't happen to think it looks very much different than the OEM mirrors that were on there. Do they stick out a little further? Well, duh! Yes, that is the whole point. As for comparing to the second gen mirrors, I happen to think those girder looking mirror supports are an abomination, and look like some sort of kids science project that was grafted onto the side of the 2nd Gen FJR. Flowing lines my ***. Those mirrors look like crap. (see how subjective "style" is?)

If you don't want wider mirrors that allow a clearly better rearward view, then don't do it to your bike. How many of you vocal goobers have even ridden an FJR with the FZ1 mirrors on there as a comparison? There are obviously many other folks that have issues with the rearward vision of the stock mirrors. First, look at how many are willing to shell out the money for a replacement set of FZ1 mirrors, then add the people using mirror extenders, spot mirrors, etc. to get a better view. It is not just an opinion of a misguided few who think the rear view can be improved.

For those that have looked at the pictures, don't find the mirrors style offensive to their delicate sensibilities, and feel they want a better rearward view this is a really easy option to do just that. There really isn't much more to say about it.

From what I've seen up close, it is smaller. At the very least its shorter top to bottom. :)

Uhhhhh, Every other stop. Lets not exaggerate Mike! :D

Funny conversation... Personally, I don't give much thought to what others think about the looks of the bike with the FZ1 mirrors...for ME, they are a VAST improvement over the stock mirrors and add immensely to my situational awareness. I saw nothing but shoulders in the original mirrors, with a sliver of daylight on the outer edge. With the FZ1's in place, the picture's reversed...small sliver of shoulder in the view and a clear view of everything to the rear. The antlered look has grown on me although I never minded it in the first place. ;)
