ok,, here we go,,

I am not too fond of brand bashing ,, I came to Yamaha from years of riding Harleys, Indians, Ducati,Moto Guzzi,BSA,Triumph. each of these brands have their own "Personality" and woes when it comes to self service or dealer cost for service, and all the BLAH BLAH BLAH!! about my bike is better than your bike is a bit trivial to me, most riders choose a bike that fits the type of ride experience that they desire, I rode Harleys for many reasons, my dad rode em , my uncles rode em, rode em hard, through tough conditions, and yeah they leaked oil ,, and they worked on them all the time ,, and when I brought home an Indian they made me keep it in the barn, so the "other brand" Voodoo wouldn't get on the Harleys, when I shipped my Bonni home from Holy Loch they went into convulsions , the dredded "Brit Bike" ,,

I guess my point is that we choose the FJR for many reasons,, it's a real looker,, the motor is soooooo strong,, the seating position is perfect for me,, servicing it myself is sooo easy!!!! it rides like no other bike I have owned or ridden ( yes I have been on Beemers,, no I do not care for them) as we all love our FEEJER,, we all have things we wish were different ,, like,, as some have said "my roasted nuts" I fixed mine ,, we have all Farkeled our beauties to suit our style and needs,,

so if the FNG is here because he ordered an 06,, and like me wanted to learn more about his bike from those who have had the experience and knowledge,, I say welcome!!!

But,, I for one couldn't give a rats ass that "you can afford to change bikes every 3 years" you sounded pompus!! and that won't go round here very well ,,

BTW to you Harley bashers, don't be an :asshat:

Like Rodney said "can't we all just get along"? :D

To each his own and if you can afford the cost of the higher priced rides out there then more power to ya! I made the decision to purchase the FJR mainly on price. I did look at the BMW's, ST, even a Concours but all in all the FJR was by far the best bargain out there for the features and as stated by many publications, the sport-tourer to beat.

Regarding the maintenance costs, many on this board do their own so really isn't an issue for most. For those who trust the dealers with their prized possesion(s) cost can vary for each brand. I know of some Yamaha STEALERS that charge in excess of $200 for an oil change where others are a bit more reasonable. BMW same thing. It just depends on the dealer.

Bottom line is that I love the FJR and what is has to offer for the price. If I could afford it I would have at least one ride from every manufacturer out there just like Jay Leno does. Someday baby.........someday!!!!!!

Snigger! :D ;) :p

Didn't mean to come off as a snob. I work my ass off for my money and buying bikes is my only bad habit.

I am not bashing brands. That's not what I'm about. Some just need to be very careful with the elite-ist attitude that one bike or another is the best.

I like to ride and it appears that the value of the FJR is the better deal at the moment.

As for tracking the IP, what kind of crap is that? Is that what you guys are about?

Don B - welcome to the fun, one new guy to another. About the IP tracking - suffice it to say that there was a chap (downn2) who was determined to be just a wee bit of a troll, stirring up trouble just 'cause. ...

Here's the relevant BMW thread:

If you run a search on his name, you'll find many similar posts.

So, jumping in 'swingin' about BMWs kinda made folks wonder if our old friend was back, just using a different user name .

Again - welcome to the FJR fraternity (Phi Iota Rho??? [no J in greek]) --- not quite Animal House, but seems close enough at times.

There is the occasional person I come accross that are bad reps of a certain brand of motorcycle.

I parked next to one a while back and as I was getting off he and his girl were coming out.

The first comment out of his mouth was, "I wish these Jap bikes wouldn't park next to mine as it brings the value down".

I have never received any comments like these from any other bike rider be it BMW, Goldwing, Triumph, Honda, Suzuki any other you can name.

It is not the bike I have a problem with at all as I like them very much but :asshat: such as this are what I seem to run into a lot and it is usually the guys that just have way too much money and are all about image.

I have been at biker parties and there is always one that wants to know what I ride. When I tell him he just starts in about something. It is at this point that I get into the typical technical arguments and such.

There is a brand loyalty in the country like no other. Some people if it is not "American" they look down on it. They also seem to have no problem voicing it.

I have no problem with any "bike" but if you come off talking about how yours is technically "better" well you better be able to prove it!!!

As was posted once upon a time, in another thread about a certain brand of motorcycle assembled in Milwaukee:

"An engineering marvel that can turn gasoline into noise without producing that annoying horsepower."

Some people have a way with words...I've been laughing my arse off for 5 minutes about the "Milwaukee Marvels"...SOUNDZZ like my 1200R is being mentioned! Who needs hp when ya can be LOUD?!
