broke bike has 100k miles on it
it's another used bike...either another '04 or maybe an '06...definitely looking for low miles like 20k or less

I'm thinking that with >100K miles on Isabella that a used but young replacement bike makes better financial sense than rebuilding or replacing the engine. If Mike couldn't afford a replacement bike then other options would come into play.

You have handled this ugly speedbump in your life with all the class I'd expect from you, having read all your past posts.
You are a class individual with a healthy outlook on life, and it shows in so many ways... good luck in your search for a suitable replacement. It sounds as though you already have a line on some good sounding candidates!
Looking forward to reading about a quick and relatively painless solution. I know what you mean about your investment account... my 401K is down to about a 101K at the moment, and the trend is not encouraging.

admittally, today is a tougher day, but family is being very sweet to me and that's a wonderful thing
AIW (Angelic Italian Wifey) asked what I wanted for my lunch & dinner...my wish is hers to fill
well simple stuff like homemade po-boy (for ya'll...submarine sandwhich) and then Italian bread crumbs baked chicken thighs
(yes, I'm a leg man...but others say "Mike, you're a Ass Man !!!
)Oldest daughter offered me her birthday money to help with a bike...crisp $100 bill from her 16th birthday last Thur <cry time>
Found it on my pillow today <course it's going back on hers this evening at bedtime>

Patriot I like the others was sorry to hear about your problem. Hopefully you will quickly find a good solution to it and be back on the road. You obviously have many good friends in this community.
I'm riding back to Louisiana some day and having a soft-shell crab po' boy, a shrimp poor boy and a meatball poor boy. Then some king cake for dessert...
sweet daughter there Mike. She's a keeper. Hope you get a bike soon. After I totalled my '04 VSTAR; my wife (from Lahayette) insisted I get another bike. Gotta love 'em.

But, (even though it sounds like I'm not telling you anything that you don't already know) You are one lucky, lucky guy. Bikes can be bought any old day, but family like you have is truly rare and priceless.
So enjoy the new bike shopping, and start disassembling the old Feej, recoup all your farkleage and save it for the next 1st gen, and sell off all of her other bits and pieces to good homes where they will continue to be useful for many years to come (and net you some $$$ for the new ride!!)

between meds for my bipolar and your kindness, it's all good and not a bad downer (yet?)
yes, Chris, found lotsa bikes in this economy that would fit the bill...some nice '04 and '05 's with low miles at reasonable prices all over the Confederate Southern States.
now finding the $$$ to put in my hand to ready the purchase, well that's the kicker at this time...
I know I'll recoup $5k in February as I qualify for a top Earned Income Credit being on SS disability and a family of four, but that's Feb. And my 401(k) negative interest accounts with big bucks from working 30 years in a computer support career indicates in my situation, pulling $10k only puts in my pocket $3k and I would pay taxes as income and loose the EIC next February. I might also loose the free state medical insurance my kids enjoy because my income might then be reported to be over the maxium allowed for the insurance.
So, yuk... <sigh>
But again, nobody crashed, nobody is hurt, nobody has cancer, nobody died, my house & fridge & A/C still work, and my wife still has a job teaching that she loves. My kids started school last Monday and are out of my hair most of the day - have 2 teen daughters 14 & 16 who I love dearly, but hard to like at times these days.
Now is I could find a bike that I could put $1k down and a promissary note for the other $5k due Feb 28th, I'd be good to go !!!
