Page, AZ was suggested as a host town due to it's close proximity to the north rim of the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Lake Powell and other sights and good roads in Northern Arizona and Southern Utah.

The weather is usually cool in the AM and not ungodly hot in the afternoons.

If enough interest, I'm looking for folks in the 60% sure range, is shown, we can start looking for a host hotel and dining facilities. Days would be Thursday thru Sunday.

So, get out your maps, have a look at the area, check out vacation time and post up. Include some date suggestions that would work best for you.

I will suggest either September 24 thru the 27th or October 8th thru the 11th.

Let's see if we can revive the beast known as SWFOG!!! :dribble:

Thanks,

Burk

put me in the 40% sure range. I might have enough PTO and I'm very interested in getting to that area/part of the country. I hope it gets way off the ground and I hope to be able to attend.

Thats 40% good news! I hope we can get this off the ground. I will bring the whiskey!

https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php?showtopic=116217 Badcat: Burk mi amigo, por favor count me in as 100% committed to 2009 SWFOG Gathering! I had posted a Northern Baja California Mexico ride during that time, but I'll move it.

If we can determine a date in next 21 days, I'll do some arm twisting at the Canadian FJR Rally in Nakusp, British Columbia.

Page makes a great location for both the Northern and Southern Californian FJR Forum members. Old Michael and Fairlaner will be easy work to talk into SWFOG, all I have to do is buy them drinks in the pub! Put up some M/C activities links ASAP.

My wife and I are in at 80%. We'll be there barring any unforseen circumstances.

Thanks for grabbing the torch and carrying it for awhile.

Dave

Edit: ... and September looks better for me.

Dave: Not a hijack, but when do FJR riders risk the chance of snow in the Colorado mountain passes, Engineer and others?

I'm also in favor of September 24th through the 27th. If I follow you two back to CO, will the passes be snowed in or clear?

Well, why don't you just ask me for the next winning Powerball numbers while you're at it? ;)

Honestly, your odds are pretty good, and we'd love to have the company. It definitely snows that time of year, but it usually melts off pretty fast. And the last week of Sept and first week of Oct are typically the best weeks to see the aspens changing.

Disclaimer: My wife and I were married (outdoors) on September 8th and it snowed 4-5 inches the night before. The groomsman all looked pretty silly, and cold, in their required Hawaiian shirts. I've also seen it snow on Crested Butte's 4th of July parade.

<hijack over>

I'm in at 80% short of some form of catastrophe. As it stands right now, I'm in Burk! As time gets a little closer, my percentage of certainty will climb!

https://www.openroadjourney.com/loadroute.asp?rid=1056 If you're coming to 2009 SWFOG Gathering from Chicago, IL (or Wheaton) here's an absolutely perfect route for you. And if you are, take that asshole SkooterG back to Chi-Town with you!
You going to SWFOG via Wheaton there Don?! Give me a little warning first so I can have the lawn all mowed for your tent.

..BTW, SkooterG is your problem...you seem to be doin' pretty well handling it out there.

Uh, Don, your suggested route there looks to sends Wheaty right through Gunnison. You're gonna' need to suggest a different way through since the Mayor of Gunnison told me personally that Mark is no longer allowed within the city limits. Something about getting drunk and frightening all the cowgirls... and cows... last July.

So far so good. I am thinking if we can get 10 pilots that are at the 60% sure level we can proceed. Thanks for the area ride info Don. I think we should name you the Master of Rides. Would that leave ScooterG for the fishing stuff??? :dribble: I will wait a few more days for responses but it looks like Sept 24th-27th is our leader.

Burk

Badcat Burk: I would be more than happy being the Master of Rides, but you could also assign that to SkooterG and I would also be happy to take over Master of Fishing. Do we have riders interested in fishing? I love fly fishing and ocean fishing!!

Since you brought it up: A small fishing hijack story! I first met SkooterG in November of 2004 when he showed up for one of my yearly week long moto rides into Mexico: This time to Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur; 11 days, 5.5K kilometers.

Right off the bat he introduced himself as an ex US Naval Officer and an Annapolis Naval Academy Graduate. NOTE: This intro was made to three ex US Army Sergeants. Eddie "Fast" Quarles, Chuck "Frenchy" Doucet and Don "Chuy" Stanley.

Fast served in Korea, Frenchy served in Vietnam and Chuy served in Germany as enlisted men. Minute Greg made us aware he'd been an Officer, we started giving him shit. We'd rented a panga (large fishing skiff) with a skipper for a day of fishing for dorado (sailfish) out of Cabo. Sure enough, we were just one mile offshore and "Old Salt Skooty" got seasick!

I see beemerdons has been overdosing on the viagra again. His memory of past events gets more interesting with every pill he pops!

I am planning to attend the 2009 SW-FOG. The Sept dates would work best, but Oct is doable. I think I have attend all of the SW-FOG's. Wouldn't want to miss this one. All have been VERY good.
