Nope but I bet you got more than your share of weggies. Plus if don't think you need all that horsepower I mean you only need to go the speed limit I think your bike only need at most 30 hp. Gosh you can go 100 with a bike with that kind of horse power and we don't want to take any risks do we. Bet you mother never gave you a Red Rider BB gun when you were a kid ether.

I guess I just don't understand the animosity here. I don't know that anyone is telling another what they MUST where, but answering the original question:

Where, exactly, did this thread turn a corner and become a debate about ATGATT? Mike asked a general question about riding in the heat while wearing all of the gear. It seemed obvious to me that he wanted to hear from those who do and those who choose to not...because of high ambient temperatures. I don't believe he meant to start a debate thread about ATGATT and I don't remember reading a post where anyone on this forum stated that anyone else SHOULD or MUST ride that way (Please provide the links and quotes.). Because of that I have a lack of understanding your point that anyone is a "Gear Nazi" and also why your have such animus for those of us who choose to wear riding gear and answered such in our posts.

I ride with people who own many different brands and types of motorcycles and because of their style of riding or style of motorcycle, the wear different modes of gear....or not. That doesn't keep me from enjoying a day riding with them but neither does it change my decision on the type of protection I choose to wear, hot weather or cold.

Because I exercise my option to wear protective clothing while riding with a group who doesn't, does that make me a "Nazi" in your eyes? Because I answered Mike's question in the affirmative does that make me, in your opinion, a "Gear Nazi"? And how did a question about riding in ATGATT deteriorate into a rant about limited horsepower and BB guns? What point are you trying to make? Some of us have chosen to wear gear that would ameliorate any injuries to our skull and skin in a "worst case" scenario. Most of us who do so don't preach to others that they must march in lock step or be banned, shunned or generally ignored. Of course, there are those who place themselves in those categories by their own attitude, but that's a different argument that should be postponed for another day and thread.

This is still a free country and you are free to make your own decision. Why have you come to a thread that riles you so in order to vent your thoughts in antithesis. Do what you want and let others do as they desire. We're all supposed to be grown-ups.

I have watched some of the comments made about quite a diverse bunch of other riders so I thought I would put my .02 in. I just get sick of people wanting to put their idea on every one else. Before the afor mentioned comment I just stated I wasn't much into AGATT

Long runs in the hot, I run microfiber pants and shirt under the Kevlar mesh, to keep the hot air from evaporating the sweat too quickly. Around town, shorts and a t-shirt under the gear. If I go down, the gear will also keep the asphalt from burning my flesh, in case I'm unconscious.

We once had a guy who arrested on a hot day. Medics got him back, but he ended up with some full-thickness burns on his back from laying on the pavement while getting CPR.

I'd never wear any of those stupid, mesh riding suits. I use racing leathers. When the flesh meets the pavement, that mesh crap, just craps out, every time. It's for pansy geeks, who can't deal with the real thing. Pussies.

Two weeks back, I pulled up at my oldest son's house. My daughter-in-law didn't like the way I looked. I've always loved the heat, and loved sweating buckets into my leathers, but the heat seems to be affecting me, lately... She went down to Cyclegear, and came back with some mesh riding pants and a jacket. I tried them on. I felt naked. The wind blows right through this cheap junk...

I'm still using it.

I am not a Gear Nazi. You can wear anything you like. I've worn anything I like. I've never been maimed, but if you're maimed or killed without a helmet or any leathers, I'll help take care of you. My family has given away so much free medical care, it's a wonder we've got a dime left. You bastards should really step up, and start paying us back...

In conclusion - NO. I'm not wearing all the gear, all the time. Because... I'm just not sure this mesh riding gear counts as 'real gear'. Otherwise, I'm wearing it. So, if you think it counts, then YES. I am wearing all the gear, all the time. Except, I don't always wear gear, when going across the road to the car wash. Or down the street to the gas station. I also don't put on any gear, to move the bike around the yard.

I smoke, too. And have sex, without condoms. I lost both my big toenails when carrying sheet rock, and I dropped my end. I once rubbed butter all over my body. One time, down in Costa Rica....

I face 95+F temps and nearly 100% humidity for several months, so I claim to be a bit of an expert on hot weather riding. The sea level atmosphere and dog-days stagnant air can be cut with a knife.

Best piece of gear I ever bought was the GX-Air jacket. Here's my current choices:

Full-up summer riding:

HJC AC-12 helmet with vents open,

Cortech GX-Air jacket (no liner of course),

Under Armour dry wicking T-shirt,

Under Armour dry wicking boxer briefs,

Fieldsheer 4-season mesh pants (silver),

Nike Dry-Fit baseball socks,

Oxtar Air Tech boots,

Cortech GX-Air mesh gloves (silver).

Area commuting for work:

Same as above except I do not wear the Fieldsheer pants or T-shirt. I substitute Kevlar Khakis and of course some type of cotton shirt suitable for the office. I carry extra shoes and simply lose the boots when I dismount the bike.

Silver color is your friend. Why anyone makes black colored mesh gear is beyond me.

I was riding north on the Watt Ave. Bridge yesterday, ATGATT, and a guy comes across on a sportbike wearing a nice-looking Arai helmet with the fancy graphics, a speedo with a similar color scheme, and pink flip-flops. That's all. Probably kevlar flip-flops and cordura speedo.

He did look cool, thermometrically speaking.

I started reflecting about my old square four -- on a hot day like that I'd have been wearing a white t-shirt, levis, engineer boots. On my head I'd have been wearing an extra coating of Wildroot Creme Oil. Maybe sunglasses if I could find them.

It did feel good to ride that way.

Life does have a way of changing your mind, though.

Ain't that the truth! When I was younger and invincible it was jeans, boots and T-shirts. Occasionally, when it got cold (anything below 70 ) I'd throw on my Korean-made leather jacket. Worthless for stopping rain, cold or road rash but DAMN it looked BADAZZ! Helmets were ghey and only worn if required (and not always then either!)

A couple of weeks back, I went on a PGR ride. Father's Day, as a matter of fact, as the father was welcoming his 21 year old son back from Iraq, but that's another story... Anyway, when I pulled up to the staging area, just outside the Ft. Hood gates, the 20-30 riders already there were mostly of the Hardly variety, and the leader decided to crack a funny by picking on the just arriving rice grinder. It was about 98 degrees out, and he started giving me a rash of crap about how he couldn't wear all that stuff, that he preferred to ride in just jeans and a T-shirt, blah, blah, blah..... I slowly pulled my helmet off, and told him that if I looked like him, I wouldn't worry too much about my skin either.

I rode 3 miles round trip last month to the grocery store in boots, gloves, helmet, kev jeans and a T shirt. Felt great. The first and last time.

I told myself this is pretty stupid.......

I have an Olympic Mesh jacket that is just fine. I leave it unzipped about 1/3rd the way sometimes.

Im thinking of getting a kevlar shirt or a bohn riding shirt so I can throw a light and loose shirt over it. And also I hear the coolinig vests are good too

Today in N VA, its 90 and high humidity.. I try not to ride in traffic on these days.

I was being pretty good for a while, but lately, with heat and unusual humidity in the Big Valley (thanks, Barbara Stanwyck) I've been more of a MOTGATT or SOTHATT, or ATGSOTT* guy, depending. Helmet (mandatory), boots, gloves, long pants (riding pants, the lined jeans type) at least. But that damn long-sleeved jacket, all the pads in place, hell, you only need that stuff if you're sliding along the road, right?
Hey, I know I should, but it's so freaking HOT. So do you all gut it out and sweat in the heat, or what? EvERY trip? Be honest, now.

Nearly all of the time I'm ATGATT - since the mesh stuff works pretty good when you're moving. Fieldsheer also does their mesh gear in TALL sizes, so the fit is perfect.

Nearly all of the time I'm ATGATT - since the mesh stuff works pretty good when you're moving. Fieldsheer also does their mesh gear in TALL sizes, so the fit is perfect.

I always go ATGATT, my choice. I cannot ride w/o a helmet , for some reason it drives me nuts. My father in law is a HD sheeple type, as in he listens to all the old BS and just goes along w/ the group. I used to laugh at his ranting about FF degrading peripheral vision, and how hot it is under my gear and I must be crazy,blah,balh,blah.

He finally shut up after I walked away from this, w/o a scratch. A concussion was all I got.

Just enjoy the ride while we are all able.

Mesh Jacket and textile pants with the liner removed but still freaking buring up when I am stopped...not too bad when moving but I still lose a pant size commuting home from work if it is >90 degrees.

I have been tempted to cheat, however I recall the ONE time I decided to do some training on my road bike (pedal type) without a helmet and low and behold, I had one of the worst wrecks ever. It is a miracle that I am not laying in a hospital today sipping food through a straw and crapping in a bag while I drool on myself.
