I tried to tell everyone (many years ago when Baja Designs first approached me to test the Solteks), that IMHO these lamps are simply ill-suited for motorcycle application, primarily due to their massive size/weight.
Funny thing was, I fully agreed with you Dale, yet went ahead, purchased and used anyway! Where's the slap-me-now stick?
Crap, though, more downtime, sigh.
Your attraction to motorcycling isn't really the riding, is it? ;)

Sorry Don. (That was just effin funny.)

Hope you get your baby up and going again soon.
Wheatie, Normally, I'd be ***** slapping you or introduce your sweet Illinois butt to a feller named Bubba, but, you're right, that IS funny!

Are you telling me that the subframe cracked due to hanging lights off it?

What they hell are they made out of? Or does he frequently get airborne on his FJR?
MadMike is right - the Solteks *are* heavy, 2006 technology. They will work very well on my tractor. For the record, it's right at 3 miles one way of dirt road to the Hondarosa, so 6 miles pretty much every day as I commute nearly year round. On washboard beyond belief. I run 45 - 55 on the dirt to get 'on top' of the ripples.

Hey Don, maybe you should think about using a different bike for running the Baja 1000, I don't think the FJR is designed for it.
Mikee! Bud, gret to hear from you! :****:

Hugs n' Kisses

Hey - when you getting out west again? PM me, huh?

I also add that welding my front stay was an option but I chose to buy a factory-fresh new one so there would be no issues regarding brittle areas. I had the old one welded and it has gone to a new home when someone posted they needed one to repair a wrecked bike.
Yep, I now have two fooked up front stays. One from the deer strike, (tweaked) and this one, previously welded. Off to ebay or new I go, too. Oh, I love moments of epiphany. Makes me all giggly n' stuff.
Damn Don. I feel for you brother, I really do
No worries, Barry. I removed the Solteks tonight, and my wonderfullest best amigo FjRay said 'sure, come up a day or two early, and we'll take care of this mess!' (prior to Rueben Run)... ;)
Besides, I can't just toss KrZy8Eh off to the side, I need her to make my new goal.. (1 million miles on bikes currently in the stable)

So paving the driveway/road/access path/highway-to-hell costs how much?

Fixing bikes costs how much?

Have they crossed over, yet??????
Not even close! Ever priced out putting in 'roadway'? Hmmm,3 miles of asphalt or concrete, all engineered for rain run off, culverts, state mandated width and crown, nope, ain't got 500k or more!

Still, your point is valid. Sometimes I really envy peeps who ride asphalt to their concrete garage floors. Nice clean, non-squeeky rides. Then again, tonight I saw two owls, 1 hawk, 3 deer :glare: , and one fox. That's kinda cool, especially in Kali land..

Well Wfooshee let me do the math for ya........

12' wide x 3 miles = 12 x 5280 x 3 = 190080 sq ft

190080 x $5 sq ft = $ 950,400 before any road work or base rock.

Hey DC, have a cool million sitting around to pave one lane to Hondarosa ? :)

That's under the number my neighbor got for attempting to place a 'grandma' house on his property.. It was 1.2 Million. To hell with Granny, eh?Back on thread track, anyone have a new front sub assembly they want to give away?

Maybe a cheaper solution would be to put a decent shed at the far end of the driveway, then store the FJR there. Ride the dirt bike from the house to the end of the driveway, swap bikes and ride to work. Reverse the procedure when you return. Cheaper than paving!

EXCEPT......it isn't his driveway. The driveway is only about 20 yards long to the dirt road that runs 3 miles throught the sparsely populated area he lives in to the first paved road......
