I have rooms for July 22 and 23. No problems, so thank you guys for prearranging!

Glad to do it AZgman, this is going to be Big Fun! But the thanks go to HotRodZilla and Big-D of www.fjrforum.com because they are working on the lodging!

This is a cluster **** and its not even rolling yet.
Sorry about the lodging in Gunnison. I looked over the hotels, all of which advertise over $100 per night. I have not called any of them yet, because I got detained by the other cluster **** happening in Moab and had to buy a new bike so I could attend just to show AJ how to ride. Then of course Joe Alonge and I were bullshittin' on the phone about dirt bikes, which changed to about wondering if we were gonna have to listen to BeemerDon and Niehart sit in the Hottub and fart the lyrics to the Irish songs Cockles & Mussels and Drunken Sailor!

I will get back on this chore in the mornin' upon my return from the gym.

AJ and Dan, the guys over at AZ Beemers are very grateful for the lodging work that you are doing for them. They also wanted me to tell Skooty and Wheatie to go feck themselves!

=========================================================================================================

Super 8 booked in Leadville for 7/23. Thanks guys for all the legwork!

Back Road Bob, I will pass your thanks on to HotRodZilla and Big-D of www.fjrforum.com

Good guys, they are making this happen for us!

Big-D is correct, but Niehart and Papa Chuy can also fart the lyrics to Danny Boy, Molly Malone and When Irish Eyes are Smiling!

So far, we have 9 of the 21 rooms being blocked out for our group reserved for July 22. Of course there is still plenty of time to get your room if you are planning on doing this ride. Estes Park, for those of you that have never been there is a beautiful little tourist town in the mountains north of Denver with about 6000 people at about 7500ft elevation. The rates may seem high, but Estes park gets a lot of business in the summer, so considering that, $114 -$119 is not that bad. 7500 ft in elevation sounds pretty high, but Denver is over 5200ft and I lived at a little over 7,000ft while calling Colorado Springs home, so Estes Park comes up fast once reaching Boulder or Longmont coming from the east.
Leadville, CO - Check-In Tue. July 23 at the Super 8 Leadville, CO Address: 1128 US Highway 24, Leadville, CO 80461 Tel: (719) 486-3637 Manager: Matt

Rates: Single Queen, up to 2 people $71.96 + Tax; Two Double Beds up to 4 people $80.96 + Tax any additional people are $5 per person. Ride Name: "FJR Ride"

Leadville, CO elevation at 9600ft, boosting the highest golf course and airport in the country. With a population of under 3,000, its a small town and it can get really cold there even in July. Again, because all of the small mountain towns throughout Colorado are big tourist places and the rates during prime summer months can be pretty high. The rates listed here are discounted 10%, this hotel states they have no problem filling up during the summer, so it is advisable to not wait too long before making your reservation if you want to go on this ride. It is each persons responsibility to check their cancellation policy. They didn't jump on the idea of Blocking -Out a group of rooms.

Gunnison, CO - Check-In Wednesday July 24 at the Comfort Inn:

911 N. Main St., Gunnison, CO, US, 81230

Tel: (970) 642-1000

Rate: $85 + Tax includes Single King or 2 Queen Beds, Hot Breakfast (Eggs, Sausage, toast, waffles, Juice etc, etc), Swimming Pool & Hot tub, Closest Hotel within walking distance to all Restaurants, Bars, plenty of parking. Also, you can upgrade to a Suite for $10 more

Because "I" am not offering my personal credit card to secure these rooms, I suggest you make reservations ASAP, should the hotel book up between now and then, those missing out will have to find accommodations elsewhere, although they don't expect they will fill up, you have been forewarned, so Please don't wait too long.

Note: All hotels in Gunnison were offering $85 or higher, however, this hotel was offering the most amenities and is the closest to all of the eating & drinking establishments and liquor stores.

Grand Imperial Hotel - Silverton, CO

1219 Greene St. Silverton, CO 81433

Tel: (970) 387-5527

Booked Rooms Under "FJR Ride"

Rates: 2 Double Beds - $89 2 Queen Beds - $99 Single King $89-$125

all above rates unfortunately require Tax also. The Hotel has blocked out 20 rooms for a period of one month from today!! That's TODAY (01/18/2013), after which you are taking chances if you are not booked into a room by then. Their staff is minimal right now, so if the phone takes a while to answer, be patient!

website: grandimperialhotel.com "check this place out!"
The FJR and AZBeemers stayed here in September 2009 during the Colorado tour.

This is a Old Western Historic "Haunted" Hotel with lots of character. Bruce was chased by a ghost!! Scary!!

There is a restaurant in the hotel that serves a buffet breakfast for $9. There are some really cool bars and restaurants in town. It was very cold in the morning that September and Uri's battery was dead by morning. Durango is waaaaay too expensive, besides Silverton is the home of the infamous Silverton/ Durango Railroad and it is located at the southern end of the Million Dollar Highway.

As always, should you require further information (i.e. Cancellation rules, etc, etc), call the Hotel personally.
OK, here they are, four fabulous nights in Beautiful Colorado

https://www.grandimperialhotel.com FJR Forumites are going to love this Grand Imperial Hotel, this is where we stayed a number of years ago with pinhead/Mountain Mama; we had a blast here, great lodging!!

One of my AZ Beemer Friends was raving about the treatment and accomodations of the Rodeway Inn in Gunnison, Colorado; he highly recommended we stay there.

Perhaps the handsome, dashing, debonair, charming and irrepressible LEO from Albuquerque may want to see if he could work a discount there; since he's so diplomatic!

Gunnison is our stop for Wednesday night July 24th, Leadville is our stop for Tuesday night July 23rd.
Check out the COLUMBINE INN in Leadville. Stayed there in 2011 and it was the cleanest room on my entire 10-day ride. Also, for a steak dinner, you must eat at QUINCIES. https://www.yelp.com/biz/quincys-leadville

I am looking at this trip and lusting after it. I am in PA and I will not ride out to CO. But I am thinking of other ways to get the 2007FJR out there for the ride.

Thanks Slardy, my Son Seth (16) and I had lunch at Quincys in Leadville last year on our day ride from SW-FOG. You're right, our steak sandwiches were GREAT! https://quincystavern.com

Since you guys will be staying in Silverton instead of Leadville, I have no idea where the clusterfuck will be when Louanne and I ride by...so keep your good eye out for a 2-up FJR heading the opposite direction.

The way this trip is shaping up, I'd ride across NE twice to get to CO.

Thanks guys for getting this together. Having a trip like this one to look forward to, kinda makes the winter off season more bearable.

Now to whittle down that Honey-do list so I don't jeapordize my kitchen pass.

Oh Brother, wheatonFJR is another MENSA member of the Graduating Class of Wheaton High School just like our "Boy Einstein" SkooterG!

Keep in mind that during the search and selection of the hotels on this trip, one of the major concerns was room cost. Which is why we by-passed Durango. The rooms in Durango started at $130 nightly and went up from there. Also, two of the places I called would not even take groups of over 10 unless guaranteed with a credit card. Some participants may not be recovering in this economy like others and need or desire to save a few bucks where possible.

I stayed in Durango once many years ago. I don't think we are going to miss that place!

Thanks for setting this up. I'll reserve Silverton on Monday. The only bad thing about Silverton is that I'll wish I had my KTM with me!

You done good. We don't need a fancy place, just a comfy bed and plumbing that works.
That's the thing about us Zonies, we aren't cheap, we're frugal. We don't need fancy, we need room to ride and most would rather spend their hard earned dollars traveling instead of handing it over to some high-falutin hotel.

Hell, just offer us a hard rock and we'll be glad to let any of our California brothers sleep on it!

From odot: "SkooterG, they are looking at affordable places. Not high end gay bars and weekend spas........"

GreggieM really had his heart set on a high end weekend spa with a gay bar, but you just can't please everbody!

Gerard: I'm all set too. Regarding Silverton, if you can't get through on the phone leave a message on their web site, https://www.grandimperialhotel.com/contact.html and they will call you back.

Any plans to go through Aspen after tagging the Independence pass?

IMG_0062.jpg

From Back Road Bob: Gerard I've been over Independence Pass, then by dirt road past Tin Cup to Gunnison. Is there a paved road to Gunnison from the Pass or were you taking the dirt?

Another interesting route is from Leadville, over to Paonia, down the Black Canyon of the Gunnison and into Gunnison. Which routes did you have in mind? In Colorado, they're all good!

I'm sure after doing Independence Pass, you will end up doing the north side of the Black Canyon on the way to Gunnison. If you don't, yer a bigger ***** than you appear to be on the neenernet.

:D
