And before ya know it, MM2 will be preachin' it at his pre-ride safety lectures. No more will people be tryin' to ride staggered through corners. A true new world order!
Wellll, my pre-ride safety lectures are getting less frequent. When I do offer sage advice it is always, "stagger formation if you want to on highways, but single file on backroads and twisties". While I'm not a convert to the right track always, I am a staunch proponent of "late entry/delayed apex-do not turn in until you see the exit-easy in/accelerate out" style of riding. Hopefully the rider will be in the track that has the best view and have the best opportunity to recognize hazards (wheeled or stationary) and avoid them. However, after riding mid-pack and seep on a couple of rides it has become painfully obvious that most riders don't listen, hence the first sentence of this paragraph.

I don't know what really happened, but I will say I've been seeing a dramatic number of inexperienced riders on the road, presumably due to higher fuel prices and with the warmer weather, they are breaking out old bikes or buying new bikes. Just today, waiting for my freakin tire change, not one, not two but three bikes came into the dealership crashed out and either on the hook or in the bed of a tow truck...
So, if you know any of these folks, take the time to talk to them, mentor them... Because their inexperience/death will be your reduced riding privileges / higher insurance rates in the future.
And I concur, dcarver, its a sad day for a number of family members and for the other driver who will never get over the sights and sounds of the incident.

Well, My prayers go out to the riders family.

Yes stay right on rights and lefts, I took up that line while at the Dragon at EOM 05, and it stuck!

Because there were just too many cars and bikes in my lane during those runs.
