it is just an 6mm allen and a 19mm nut and they will move either forward or back depending on where you want them....

My radar detector's weather protection is to put it in the tank bag when it starts raining. I need to slow down by then for the reduced traction anyway.

 
How would they adjust if they were stock? They say they are 3-way adjustable. Just curious.
Remove the cover plates on each side. Then, loosen both bars, lift them up to disengage the locating pins and move both forward (or backward) and line up the locating pins again. After the first time it's easy.

The zip-lock baggie has been my RD weather protection in the past, somewhat un-succcessfully at times, at which time I would employ Bounce's technique. I've actually had it get wet enough inside the ziplock to start giving continuous false alarms (until it dried out). So, I am trying something new this year, if spring ever comes to New England.

I've mounted my RAM Power Plate (really just a magnetic RD mounting cradle) on the top of my semi-rigid Bags Connection tang bag, inside of which is my starcom1 intercom and a power source. This cuts down dramatically on the amount of wires flapping around in the breeze, and will allow me to just throw a rain cover over the whole shebang in the rain and not have to worry about the RD separately.

The RD will actually sit inside of a small cordura zippered pouch so that it isn't quite so obvious that it is a radar detector, but could be just as easily left out in the open.

Fred it looks like you also have some kind of external light source for the RD also, what is that? and WTF do you put on that loooooooooong ram mount?

Good eye!

Yes, I actually (still) have the RD power wired via an Escort accessory "Direct Wire Smart Cord", which you see stuck on top of the clutch reservoir. The reason I installed this is that prior to this new tank bag location I was putting the RD inside the glove compartment, again for inconspicuousness. In that regard it worked very well, but the radar detection performance suffered by having the RD rotated 90 degrees to fit inside the glove box. Having that smart cord mini-console on the left handle bar makes it easy to mute the detector on the fly no matter where it is mounted.

The long RAM mount is what my zumo 550 GPS gets mounted onto. It looks pretty ungainly in that picture but it brings the GPS up above the top of any tank bag, and as high as possible without blocking the instruments. Here's the rider's cockpit view:

I think you are inquiring about the remote for the RD that has Power - Alert and a Reset button. I have mine attached to the side of my heated grip controller. It's in my line of sight and easy to get to the reset button.

Not yet.

Fairlaner has the most accurate and up to date info on that project. You might want to PM him.

 
Gary just mail me some brackets for the lights yesterday, i will test fit them when i get them and we will go from there.....

So I take it that thing is fairly waterproof?

So far, yes. There are no active electronic components inside that act up in the rain, but it may eventually weather and the switch not function right anymore. ionbeam has had his a lot longer than me.

 
Fairlaner - really like your GPS setup. Just received my 665 w/ Touratech mount and bracket. Was interested in how you mounted your satellite antenna?
I mounted mine under the rear seat. I velcro'd a 3/0 metal electrical box plate to the top of the fender just in front of the rear cowl and used the magnetic mount to fix the antenna to the plate. Concealed and works fine through the plastic since nothing conductive is in the way of its line of sight to the sky.

 
Tom i think you are right, my top case will be here on Monday and then i will figure out if i want to separate it or mask it for paint....
20V look on previous page you will see the painted smuggler..and yes it is Colorrite paint and i have half a pint left.

This is going back a bit in this thread but I wanted to know how well the Colorrite paint matched your factory paint color? My side panels on the top trunk were pretty far off using their '13 FJR paint. Fortunately the trunk isn't on there all the time and the panels are a long way away from other color. It still bugs the crap out of me though.

 
I'm finishing up the polishing on my Corbin smuggler and the Colorite rattle can paint match is very good. It's at least as good as the Corbin factory cobalt blue match for my '06. I don't know if you can call anything like that perfect but Colorite's is damn close to perfect. If I had any complaints it might be that the metalflake in the rattle can doesn't seem as fine a pitch as the Yamaha factory paint but you really have to be looking for that. 99% of people who see it think it's a perfect match.
