Sharon,

My deepest sympathies on the loss of your father, clearly a great man indeed.

It's apparent from your recent posts that you have inherited his bravery and courage, and my heartfelt thanks go out to you for sharing with us here. I am glad you got to share some great final moments with him.

My thoughts are prayers are with you and your family.

Thanks for listening, and if you still have your dad, please give him a hug or a phone call for me.

Sharon,

Tears in eyes, so good on you and family to surround Pops during his moment.

My Pops, also a WWII, the big one, vet, is still with us and yes, I need to call more often.

Sharon,

Very sorry to hear about your dad. Our sympathies and prayers are with your family. The vets from that war are amazing to talk to, and I am sure your dad was no different. It sounds like he maintained his courage to the end.

Sharon, my deepest sympathies to you and your family. I haven't any words of wisdom for you, other than a reminder that you're among friends here. Keep visiting the forum during these tough times and we'll try our best to help you through.

Sharon,

I am very sorry for your loss. My grandfather was a Chief in the Navy during WWII and served in submarines. He told stories all the time. I never got tired of hearing them over and over. He passed away a few years ago and I find that I now tell his stories to my wife and look forward to telling them to my kids when they are older. I think it is important that those stories don't die. Hearing his stories keeps him with me even if I am the one telling them now. Please add me to the list of people that would really like to hear your dad's story. I would be honored to help you convert your tape to a digital format so you could share it with people.

John

And many of us have walked the path you are now on, so we really do understand.

The pain will fade....the memories do not, and it sounds like you have quite a collection of memories. That is a blessing!

Hey everybody, just got a call from my sister. got to go down to Forsyth Medical in North Carolina about my dad. pulmonary edema, shadow in lung that looks like cancer, atrial fibrillation, not breathing well on oxygen, wont open eyes. intubating soon

he's 84; was navigator in b-24 liberator flying out of italy into blekhammer, etc. bailed out twice, MIA twice, lieutenant JG, best guy god ever created. his famous saying: "why in god's name would anyone jump out of a perfectly good airplane."

i'll be off the forum for a few days unless i can get my hands on a computer.

hoping for the best, whatever that may be.
Wow, just saw this and prayer's coming your families way. Sounds like he's lived a good life and for sure the B-24 and B-17's are the coolest planes ever. What an honor to have a hero for a dad like yours! God bless and take care, Del. aka, Painman. <>< :D
